Don’t be VAT stupid (Cain was AGAINST a National Sales Tax last November)
Herman Cain T.H.E New Voice, Inc. ^ | November 21, 2010 | Herman Cain

Posted on 10/16/2011 5:42:57 PM PDT by Polybius

There’s one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.

President Obama’s Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nation’s runaway national debt. .....

The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.

Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.

First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. ......

Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. ....

For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.

Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.

A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.

People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

You have no right to claim all freepers who support Cain are mind-numbed robots who have given no serious consideration or analysis to his record, plan, and the times.

Sometimes people just disagree.

That is all.

Oh, yes, I can see Maxine Waters voting to raise the NST and income tax rate on “her people” from 9% to 12% and even higher.

BOO-YAH!

These greedy thiefs will no longer be able to stick producers with the bill for the parasites without the parasites getting hit equally.

Just curious. Are you not concerned that "a revenue hungry Congress" will raise the current income tax schedule? And once the 49% that pay no taxes gets to 50+%, which will happen soon if we don't do something major such as 999, it will be GAME OVER.

We will never have the votes to stop the parasites from continuing to vote themselves more and more free stuff at the producers' expense.

The tax rate won't go up here and there and everybody like it might over a long period of time under 999. Nope, the top tax rate will shoot to 90% on the rich, just like it was under FDR, with the lower brackets paying accordingly.

It’s not one “more” way.

If you have three apples in your basket and I take those away and give you a different apply, have I given you one “more” apple? Do you have four apples?

No, you only have one apple, the one that replaced the three I took away.

That’s what 999 does. It restructures the Fedzilla tax system, eliminates several taxes and replaces those eliminated tax with a differently structured tax.

Not only that, the crap commentary in the title box is dishonest and embarrassing.

Cain should send a copyright violation letter to Free Republic because the original poster distored his intended title and did not use it in accordance with the law on “fair use.”

A pox on the OP for the worst and most embarrassing distortion of a title yet. How about exercising some discipline and putting your commentary in the comment box, not the title box?

Why should Cain attack Romney aggressively at this point?

Cain is gaining on Romney in all the polls just doing what he’s doing.

Ever heard of “keeping your powder dry”?

Or that business strategy called “swimming with the sharks”?

Cain’s strategy against Romney is working brilliantly.

Cain didn’t say one word that was inconsistent with what he is saying now.

In fact, his consistency on supporting the Fair Tax is a beautiful thing.

Have you even read Cain’s website?

999 is specifically designed as a way to transition from what we have now to the Fair Tax.

President Eisenhower had never held elected office.

OTOH, President Obama had.

I agree. This stuff coming out about Cain is starting to creep me out.

Oh well, there is still Santorum or Bachmann.

WHen I discuss executive experience, I always point out that our Presidents have always been either people with prior elective experience, or else Generals who had many years of experience leading troops in our armed forces.

Since the President is also the commander in chief, that form of experience has proven useful, although I would argue that former generals haven’t been as good as Presidents as former Governors.

Other better ways to restructure taxation and ignite economy

Hmm if prices go down because of the other two 9s as several people are saying maybe the sales tax wouldn’t be a big problem.

A sales tax is not a VAT, and Cain has championed the Fair tax for a long time now. Nice try

Nice try yourself. Herman Cain, in the above article, says you're wrong:

"The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes."
