Theres one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.
President Obamas Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Centers Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nations runaway national debt. .....
The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.
Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.
First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. ......
Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. ....
For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.
Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.
A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.
People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

What is very amusing is that all of the arguments that have been made by those who are skeptical of the National Sales Tax of the 9-9-9 Plan are EXACTLY the same arguments that Cain himself made against a National Sales Tax last November.
Cain does not seem to have been able to make the transition from a talk show host that tells listeners whatever they want to hear to a serious Presidential candidate that is held accountable for his ever-changing positions.
You want an electrified Border Fence? You got it!
You think that an electrified Border Fence is a terrible idea? I was only joking.
You think that al-Qaeda terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki should NOT be targeted for killing because he has American citizenship? I totally agree with you.

The only thing that Herman Cain seems to be consistent about is his support of Mitt Romney.

FYI
Here’s the way I, as a GOP voter, see it:
This is Cain’s opening bargaining position. He knows he’s never gonna get his plan passed as is. He will have to compromise with the leftists, Marxists, and traitors.
But the fact that he is beginning from a position so far to the right, by the time negotiations are over, we’ll have something far better than if he started from a position that is closer to the position of our enemies.
A sales tax is not a VAT, and Cain has championed the Fair tax for a long time now. Nice try.
I think you should realize Cain said he was against a national sales tax on top of all the other federal taxes we pay.
He’s not proposing that now, unless there’s something I’m missing.
We know that Cain is a political neophyte with no governing or legislative record to speak of. Now it appears Cain prefers political expediency over principled conservative orthodoxy. I think Herman needs to do his homework and keep his trap shut more.

I wouldn't trust the 999 plan in Obama's hands either. The man could screw up a PB&J. He would throw a VAT on top of everything else and NEVER pass the other parts that reduce taxes.
I would, however, trust 999 under Cain. If he didn't get the reduction, he wouldn't pass the tax.
I love how everyone presumes that this plan would never pass. Obamacare passed and half those clowns never read it.
Never say never in this political climate.
He was right the first time. :)
Good luck with this one. FReepers, study the VAT. Herman Cain strips DC of her power. When a tax is raised on 100% of the population the game changes quick.
Since Cain is just a talker, it should be expected that he will “vary” his opinions. Some say that’s a plus for him, having no political record that can be examined. I find it to be a weakness.
What am I missing?
I find it amusing how illiterate you are.
He is saying we should not add that on top of the taxes WE ALREADY HAVE.
In case you weren’t aware, 999 does not keep the taxes we have currently at the same rate. They are reduced to allow for the sales tax.
More and more I am in the camp that believes Cain is trying to position himself for the VP slot on the Romney ticket.
His shoestring campaign seems to be leaning toward mucking the primaries up for conservatives, thus giving Romney the nomination. It resembles what Huckabee did in 2008 and helped McCain get the nomination.
Cain did support Romney in 2008 and has said he would not even consider a VP slot on a Perry ticket, but would be open to VP on other tickets.
There is something about Cain, like Thompson in 2008, that activates my cynicism.
>> He will have to compromise with the leftists, Marxists, and traitors.
And RINO Socialists!
VAT in no more a national sales tax than I am a rocket scientist.
You need to study up a bit to know the difference. Cain is not for a value added tax.
A National Sales Tax is only applied once...just like local sales taxes are applied only once. This is different than a Value Added Tax. VAT taxes are applied at each stage of production.
I seriously don’t understand the point of view that someone would spend their own personal money and take all this time to run for president just to do it to help somebody else.
Why would someone do that? This conspiracy theory nonsense just doesn’t make sense.
You can disagree with Cain’s 999 plan and that’s fine, but to assume people are running to help somebody else is I think a little out there.
What the Marxists were proposing last year was a true European VAT, which taxes a product at every stage od production and therefore hides the bulk of taxes from the average citizen. Cain is proposing a sales tax, which taxes at the point of retail sale, and is therefore not hidden from the public.
You might want to do some homework. VAT is added at every stage of production. A 9% national sales tax is very different.
A bit of websurfing would reveal that this is the latest anti-Cain meme. Look how many FR threads are repeating this same meme: Cain opposed in 2010 what he advocates now.
Except that he didn’t. He’s been consistent. This is straight out of either the Dems or, more likely, Romney or Perry. It’s an effort to destroy Cain before he becomes unstoppable.
And you and a lot of others are falling for it.
