Well, it seems that Cain was firmly AGAINST a National Sales Tax last November before he was FOR a National Sales Tax now.

What is very amusing is that all of the arguments that have been made by those who are skeptical of the National Sales Tax of the 9-9-9 Plan are EXACTLY the same arguments that Cain himself made against a National Sales Tax last November.

Cain does not seem to have been able to make the transition from a talk show host that tells listeners whatever they want to hear to a serious Presidential candidate that is held accountable for his ever-changing positions.

You want an electrified Border Fence? You got it!

You think that an electrified Border Fence is a terrible idea? I was only joking.

The only thing that Herman Cain seems to be consistent about is his support of Mitt Romney.

Herman Cain said Wednesday that he would be unable to support Rick Perry for president if the Texas governor were to eventually win the party's nomination. .... The former businessman said, for instance, that he could support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney....

Here’s the way I, as a GOP voter, see it:

This is Cain’s opening bargaining position. He knows he’s never gonna get his plan passed as is. He will have to compromise with the leftists, Marxists, and traitors.

But the fact that he is beginning from a position so far to the right, by the time negotiations are over, we’ll have something far better than if he started from a position that is closer to the position of our enemies.

A sales tax is not a VAT, and Cain has championed the Fair tax for a long time now. Nice try.

I think you should realize Cain said he was against a national sales tax on top of all the other federal taxes we pay.

He’s not proposing that now, unless there’s something I’m missing.

We know that Cain is a political neophyte with no governing or legislative record to speak of. Now it appears Cain prefers political expediency over principled conservative orthodoxy. I think Herman needs to do his homework and keep his trap shut more.

Dear Polybius:

I wouldn't trust the 999 plan in Obama's hands either. The man could screw up a PB&J. He would throw a VAT on top of everything else and NEVER pass the other parts that reduce taxes.

I would, however, trust 999 under Cain. If he didn't get the reduction, he wouldn't pass the tax.

I love how everyone presumes that this plan would never pass. Obamacare passed and half those clowns never read it.

Never say never in this political climate.

Good luck with this one. FReepers, study the VAT. Herman Cain strips DC of her power. When a tax is raised on 100% of the population the game changes quick.

I find it amusing how illiterate you are.

He is saying we should not add that on top of the taxes WE ALREADY HAVE.

In case you weren’t aware, 999 does not keep the taxes we have currently at the same rate. They are reduced to allow for the sales tax.

More and more I am in the camp that believes Cain is trying to position himself for the VP slot on the Romney ticket.

His shoestring campaign seems to be leaning toward mucking the primaries up for conservatives, thus giving Romney the nomination. It resembles what Huckabee did in 2008 and helped McCain get the nomination.

Cain did support Romney in 2008 and has said he would not even consider a VP slot on a Perry ticket, but would be open to VP on other tickets.

There is something about Cain, like Thompson in 2008, that activates my cynicism.

Cain probably realized we already pay a VAT that is higher than his 9 percent proposal.

A sales tax and a VAT tax are two different things! Do you know what the word demagogue means?

Are we certain a VAT is the same as a national sales tax?

Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.

Who is this jerk saying all these nasty and untrue things about the Herminator's federal sales tax? : D

Cain sometimes misspeaks but Mitt Perry and Rick Romney screw-ups end up as policy.

Sticks and stones Cain haters.

You people really need to quit lying here on Free Republic boards. Last November, Cain was pushing the Linder-Boortz Fair Tax every single night on his radio show.

I never thought I would see a candidate that Flip-Flops more than Romney, but Cain is beginning to set a new record. Cain is Flip-Flopping every day now. He sometimes flip-flops in a matter of minutes.

It is obvious that Cain like Romney has no core principles and stands for nothing but winning elections, or, in Cain’s case winning the election for Romney.

It is not hard to see why Cain endorsed Romney in 2008 and why he will endorse him again in 2012.

Romney owns the Largest Radio Network in the USA, Clear Channel Radio Network and Romney is in a position to get Cain a lucrative Talk Radio Contract even if Romney does not win the Nomination.
