Don’t be VAT stupid (Cain was AGAINST a National Sales Tax last November)
Herman Cain T.H.E New Voice, Inc. ^ | November 21, 2010 | Herman Cain

Posted on 10/16/2011 5:42:57 PM PDT by Polybius

There’s one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.

President Obama’s Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nation’s runaway national debt. .....

The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.

Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.

First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. ......

Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. ....

For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.

Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.

A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.

People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

>> 2.) No Cain attacks are directed at Romney. That right there is plenty suspicious.

Except for the fact it is not even close to being true.

Absolutely! Which is precisely why I don’t want to give them one more way to stick it to us.

You can't even count the ways they're already sticking it to us. The "Affordable Healthcare" Act alone included 119 new taxes.

Cain's 9-9-9 is at least a simplification.

The only questions worth asking with respect to 9-9-9 are a.) will it lower the tax burden and b.) will it encourage investment and economic activity and, thus, create jobs.

Boy, they are deathly afraid of Cain aren’t they! It’s become obvious to me that the RINOs want either Perry or Romney.

I see are cutting and pasting the same inaccurate information from thread to thread. Mitt Romney does not, nor has he ever, owned Clear Channel. Romney has not been employed by Bain Capital since 1999 and Bain Capital purchased Clear Channel in 2007.

They won’t raise the 9 on sales tax. They’ll just expand the items “eligible” for sales tax. Used items. Certain services. Etc.

Is there any tax that is immune from the "closing of loopholes"?

The answer is "No".

I haven't even decided if I'm for it, but it seems to me that many of the complaints raised about Cain's 9-9-9 plan are simply without merit and can be applied to any proposed tax plan.

“That applies to any and every Pubbie’s plan so it’s not a valid argument.”

The above was QUOTING CAIN’S OWN WORDS.

Since when do we have to apologize for the truth?

We merely posted CAIN’S OWN WRITING. Why is it our fault that he said one thing in Nov. 2010 and he is saying something totally different today?

Maybe you and others should apologize to us.

When Cain endorses Romney, I will start an “Apology thread to Clairity and others” and you can all post your apologies to us, sensible people.

I just hope it won’t be too late.

If you can prove ROMNEY owns Clear Channel...do it.

I see nothing out there but B.S.

And BTW....I think Romney is a lying, flip flopping RINO.

But just because you read it on the net...doesn't make it so.

So NOOB....either put up, or shut up.

Romney owns the Largest Radio Network in the USA, Clear Channel Radio Network, and Romney is in a position to get Cain a lucrative Talk Radio Contract even if Romney does not win the Nomination.

I had no clue about this, but it is certainly interesting information and perhaps puts some things into a better perspective now.

A sales tax is not a VAT, and Cain has championed the Fair tax for a long time now. Nice try.

Since you gave the correct answer in post #4, I can move on to other threads.

I voted for Cain in 2004.

He has been a proponent of the FairTax since he and Neal Boortz started running around in the same circles.

Does Mitt Romney own or partially own that radio station or is it owned in full by the LDS church? I was just looking that station up (Clear Channel Radio Network) up and saw this:

KSL NewsRadio is a radio programming service based in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is broadcast simultaneously on AM station KSL (1160 kHz at 50,000 watts) and FM station KSL-FM (102.7 MHz, Midvale). Both stations are part of the KSL Broadcasting Division and owned by Deseret Management Corporation, which is in turn owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSL_%28radio%29

On a side note, I found some names and fact about the Deseret Management Corporation, also Mormon owned, interesting as well, but I couldn't see a close Mitt Romney connection there either though.

Does Mitt Romney have any ownership in the radio station that you think Cain would have a chance at getting signed on with? I couldn't tell that from what I was seeing online.

Thanks in advance.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Herman Cain is in way over his head. Flip flop. Flip Flop. It is becoming apparent why he would be able to be Romney’s VP. Flip Flop...

That’s the weird thing. Perry also spoke favorably of the FairTax in his book, Fed Up.

So why are we debating this stupid “9-9-9” monstrosity? Why aren’t we talking about the FairTax, since Cain has been saying THAT is the correct replacement tax system?

It seems there’s this new, great tax plan, but rather than argue that we should adopt it, Cain has decided to adopt some bastardized mess of a plan that has all the bad parts of our current system (an income tax that can be as graduated as a bare majority of representatives can make it), and a national sales tax with all the problems Cain knows it would have.

Why has Cain essentially compromized with himself before he even starts? Why should we invest time and money, and the economic disruption, to switch to this 9-9-9, when it’s just a temporary measure and we’ll have to go through it all again to switch over to the FairTax?

Maybe if you could name ONE person who was a great president, who had no government experience. Just one.

Meanwhile, I’ll spot you your bad examples, and raise you a Governor Ronald Reagan. I would also note that as bad as Clinton was philosophically, Governor Bill Clinton was much better at BEING the President than Barack Obama. And Governor George Bush also RAN the executive well, even if you disagreed with a few of his policies.

There are a lot of experienced people to choose from. Experience isn’t the only thing you need, but it’s a very good start for the process. Even Sarah Palin had a few years as Governor. Being the appointed president of a middling pizza chain that fell from 5th place to 11th place on your watch is hardly a stellar background for the most powerful position on this planet. Nor is being a corporate lobbyist or radio talk show host.

You took his own writing out of context and cut off the rest of the statement, changing its meaning entirely. So what is he saying different today?

What is Perry saying different today? Who did Perry endorse before? How in this world could he have voted for CARTER? More Malaise?

Ronald Reagan had an excellent character. He also was a successful Governor of the largest state in the Union.

No. He was against a NST being added on top of everything else already in our present tax system.

As has been said over and over again ad nauseum, the 999 does NOT add a NST on top of everything else already in our present tax system. 999 scraps the present tax system entirely and REPLACES it wit the 999 taxes.

And the flour-maker and the baker will be paying a 9% individal or corporation income tax rate instead of something substantially higher.

It’s not good analysis to cherry pick features of a comprehensive plan.
