A sales tax is not a VAT, and Cain has championed the Fair tax for a long time now. Nice try.

Since you gave the correct answer in post #4, I can move on to other threads.

I voted for Cain in 2004.

He has been a proponent of the FairTax since he and Neal Boortz started running around in the same circles.

That’s the weird thing. Perry also spoke favorably of the FairTax in his book, Fed Up.

So why are we debating this stupid “9-9-9” monstrosity? Why aren’t we talking about the FairTax, since Cain has been saying THAT is the correct replacement tax system?

It seems there’s this new, great tax plan, but rather than argue that we should adopt it, Cain has decided to adopt some bastardized mess of a plan that has all the bad parts of our current system (an income tax that can be as graduated as a bare majority of representatives can make it), and a national sales tax with all the problems Cain knows it would have.

Why has Cain essentially compromized with himself before he even starts? Why should we invest time and money, and the economic disruption, to switch to this 9-9-9, when it’s just a temporary measure and we’ll have to go through it all again to switch over to the FairTax?
