At two campaign rallies in Tennessee on Saturday night, the Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.
But by Sunday morning, in a dramatic change of tone, Mr. Cain, a former restaurant executive, said he was only kidding.
Thats a joke, Mr. Cain told the journalist David Gregory during an appearance on NBCs Meet the Press, where he was asked about the electrified fence. Thats not a serious plan. Ive also said America needs to get a sense of humor.
Mr. Cains attempt to pass off incendiary comments as nothing but a joke may take more effort, however. In making the initial remarks about an electrified fence killing illegal immigrants, Mr. Cain was detailed and repetitive. He did not introduce his thoughts as anything but serious commentary, beginning with the words, We have a crisis of illegal immigration.
And the crowds responded with cheers, not laughs.

ILLEGAL aliens (those who Rick Perry has yet to send to college) may be illiterate or just plain stupid enough to think they could climb an electric fence and survive. They try crossing our deserts and die by the hundreds in the process, so electric fencing would be out because, when and if anyone died it would be America's fault just as it is America's fault that they die crossing our deserts.
The higher the fence, the higher the voltage, the better.
If they turn the power off for a while, for the Mexican poor there will be...... FREE CARNE ASADA!
Ain’t just poor Mexicans crossing the border. Al Qaeda still wants to kill us!
The fence between North and South Korea? Works well.
Yep, you know what they say about drawing flak and being over the target......
“I read somewhere that hitler had that plan to tell them the same lies in order to keep the US out of WWI & WWII. “
That would be the Zimmermann Telegram of 1917. But the Kaiser was head of Germany’s government back then, Hitler was just an obscure corporal in the army.
Earlier Cain had talked about the Great Wall of China. He said that if the Chinese could build that wall for security, why can’t we build something that purposeful and succesful like that for security?
A reporter asked him about building such a wall and the number of people that DIED WHEN BUILDING THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA!
Oh, my! Cain wants a million Americans to die while building a wall on the border!
Cain answered that with today’s technology, that wouldn’t happen. He dismissed the hyper-ventilating, liberal reporter’s ridiculous question without batting an eye.
The fact that you are getting so worked up about this is silly in the extreme. Just like the reporter.
Here you go. Cain’s stance (without the hyperbole)

Secure the border with more boots on the ground I do believe we can secure the border with a combination of boots on the ground, technology, and a fence, but weve got three other problems. And to get to it, weve got to secure the border.
Secondly, lets promote the path to citizenship thats already there. We dont need a new one, we just need to clean up the bureaucracy thats slowing the process down and discouraging people.
The third thing we need to do, enforce the laws that are there, and the way we do it, empower the states. I believe that the people closest to the problem are the best ones to be able to solve that problem. Empower the states to do what the federal government hasnt done, cant do, and wont do. This is how we solve the entire problem.

We have a path to citizenship: its called legal immigration
Q: When Pres. Obama joked about protecting the borders with alligators and a moat, not only did you embrace the idea, you upped the ante with a 20-foot barbed wire electrified fence. Were you serious?
A: America has got to learn how to take a joke. But allow me to give you my real solution to the immigration problem. I happen to believe that is four problems.
Yes, we must secure the border with whatever means necessary.
Enforce the laws that are there.
Promote the path to citizenship thats already there. We have a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Its called legal immigration.
And then, I happen to agree with empowering the states and allow them to deal with that issue. If we work on the right problem, we will be able to solve it.
And in the case of immigration, weve got four problems that we need to work on simultaneously. We can have high fences and wide open doors, all at the same time.

Not right to sue Arizona for trying to protect themselves
I want to share with you my three guiding principles so you know what type of leader I will be. Three of my guiding principles that have guided my life; guided the decisions I made when I was running companies; and guided my family.
Guiding principle #1: Do the right thing. It was not right to sue the state of Arizona when they were simply trying to protect themselves. You will always be able to count on Herman Cain to do what is right.
Guiding principle #2: We have got to lead this nation from an entitlement society to an empowerment society, by getting government out of the way. Weve got to empower states to do what states do best: to solve the peoples problems at the state level. Empowerment, not entitlement
Guiding principle #3: Its not about us. We have to defend the life of the unborn. We must defend those principles that this nation was founded upon.

Secure our borders; enforce our laws
Americans have embraced their role as the worlds premier melting pot, welcoming immigrants from every corner of the planet. We readily learn about other cultures, customs and beliefs. We appreciate those who are willing to come to this country and mak America a more vibrant and enriched place.
Americans do resent, however, the willingness of some to circumvent our laws and enter our nation illegally. While many, if not most, illegal immigrants are peaceful people simply seeking to provide for their families, some are not. In fact, some are quite dangerous, jeopardizing the safety and well-being of American citizens.
Illegal immigration also puts a tremendous strain on Americas entitlement and health care systems. In fact, several hospitals in the U.S. have declared bankruptcy as a result of the costs of caring for illegal immigrants.
We must secure our borders, enforce our laws and promote the existing path to citizenship.ÿ

Wheres the fence? Not in the Immigration Bill!
The Comprehensive Immigration Bill debated in the Senate last week was dead on arrival. Most regular folks kept screaming, Wheres the fence?
The Immigration Bill was supposed to be good compromise legislation. It is just bad legislation with different agendas glued together, while not emphasizing enough of the publics number one priority - the fence! Not just wire, wood and concrete, but all the technologies we have available to stop the rampant inflow of illegal aliens into this country.

Btw, as everyone with half a brain knows. Perry apologized for his dumb remark. Albeit late. Some folks just like holding a grudge. With Perry it reinforces they're public hatred for the Texas Governor and makes them feel better about themselves. Nativists on the loose.
"without actually imparting any information whatsoever"
Obviously the post was for those with the ability to think, the "information" you seek is provided by Perry.
If you cannot follow the logic, you might want to start by educating yourself on the topics being addressed.
Failing that, try to resist the urge to reply to posts you do not understand.
>> “It seems a sneaky, slick, back-door way to lead people on.” <<

Its effective! - He took a page out of Sarah’s book, good on him. When you don’t have the enemy’s money, you have to be inventive.
The RINOs (Romney, Perry) are supported by America’s enemies; who is going to support our friends?
>> “Has this been a long election cycle already or what?” <<
.
Gosh, its only been three years! :o)
>> Cain remarked the other day how he will peel evangelical votes
Hmmm... he’s going after evangelicals, eh? So THAT’S why he didn’t make the tax rates SIX percent. He’s a man with a plan!
:-)
(sorry for the bad joke, it’s just getting harder and harder to take this guy seriously. And after all, this is a “Cain joke thread”.)
Who said ‘I will kill you’? Or are you misrepresenting?
Do you mean the sign on the electrified fence saying “IT will kill you”?
>> “Its Santorum or Newt for me at this time.” <<
.
Bend over!
SOP for Romney campaigns is to pay surrogates to go out and trash talk the other candidates while having them pretend to not be connected to Romney. The standard Romney-bot posting tactic is to offer nothing rational or factual to back up their trash talking of the other candidates.
Looking at your posting history, those are the same tactics you are using.
Your posting history consist wholly of screaming bile laced tirades at Cain without ever offering anything rational or factual to back up your ignorant ad homine rantings
So just which campaign are you actually working for Billy?
Yep and that thread did a great job flushing them out. I want no part of that kind of rhetoric. America is better than that. One thing is certain, Cain just lost the hispanic vote with his “joke”.
Wow, you’re really a fart smeller! Oops, sorry, I meant “smart feller”.
“By many Cain supporters rationale, Perry makes an off-the-cuff insensitive remark - and HE IS BRANDED FOR LIFE FOR THAT COMMENT - it is the core of their dislike for him.”
I guess the different is that Perry’s off-the-cuff remark told us what he thinks about the Republican base, while Cain’s remark tells us what he REALLY thinks about illegal immigration.
That’s your answer and if I was wrong, Perry would not have collapsed.
You can say he was for the toll road then he was against the toll road, and you perrywinkles will say that was not a flip flop, because you can only have a legal flip flop on Monday. Just Unbelievable.
