CNSNews.com) A U.S. House committee Thursday approved a bill linking U.S. contributions to the United Nations to significant financial and other reforms, one day after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned she would recommend that President Obama veto the measure if it reaches his desk.
Deeply divided along party lines, the House Foreign Relations Committee voted 23-15 for the U.N.

“Proponents say this would allow the U.S. and other member states to fund only those activities and agencies it regards as being efficiently managed, and in the national interest.” National interest? well, that should eliminate all funding:)

Funny how the GOP never tries this when its in power.

American taxpayers account for 22 percent of the U.N.s regular operating budget and 27 percent of the separate peacekeeping budget in assessed dues. In addition the U.S. provides billions of dollars in voluntary contributions for various U.N. agencies. In FY 2010 the total U.S. contribution was $7.69 billion.
Somewhere around 200 countries on this planet (give or take a few thousand if you host the ABC Nightly News), and one is "assessed" a quarter of the bills. Sounds a lot like the current American tax system, where the few are paying for the many.
"Assessed". How many of those doing the assessing owe us money or take billions in our foreign aid dollars?

Amen, brother....preach it.

I personally wouldn’t accept anything less than total elimination of the United Nations. It’s strictly a tool of the Marxist Left, and has been since its beginning.

Funny how the GOP never tries this when its in power. Exactly. If Bush had taken advantage of the oil for food scandal, he could have ended our participation in the UN. But he assiduously avoided doing so.
You know the RINOs are playing to the crowd when they talk about something only when they know it can't be passed.

Hillary said Obama would veto it. However, got to love some of our Fla Republicans...”The bills author, committee chairwoman Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FLA.), told Thursdays markup hearing that the U.N. budget continues to climb.
What are we paying for? she asked, then cited repressive regimes membership on the Human Rights Council, a continuing anti-Israel bias, the elevation of member states like North Korea and Iran to leadership positions in various bodies, and corruption scandals.

Reagan did it to UNESCO. It worked. The most corrupt brothel in the UN reluctantly cleaned up its act.
To: Cicero
Let's face it. Bush had a full plate, but there were a host of things he could have done that he just didn't bother to do. Clean up the State Dept, jerk the UN's chain, dittoes EPA and Dept Ed, etc. etc.
Oh well. We can hope for a more effective tomorrow.

“cleaned up its act”
no such thing. These orgs should not exist.

Move the whole s-—pile to Juarez.
If nothing else it would be funny to see these great dignitaries trying to dogpaddle the Rio.

I think we need the UN to go find another country to house their bedbug infested offices.

Does it need a law, which requires 0bama’s signature for it, or a no budget allocation would be enough to do so?

What? Make fat-ass secretariate workers look for real jobs? They’re liable to make trouble, or at least form a committee to examine ways and means of making trouble. They might even join Occupy Wall Street and get run over by scooters and scream a lot, until their diplomatic immunity is revoked.

Every country should pay the exact same amount to the UN - NOTHING! Screw the UN. Move it to the South Pole and let them party there.
