Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

Good Lord! Get us a time machine!!!
Perry seemed to take a realistic view of boarder security in his first primary debate. It didnt sell very well.
He should have mentioned electric fences and machine guns. That’s what passes for “realistic” these days.
All I can say is Perry promoted and passed the law.
A fence only works around the white house because they have armed guards that will shoot your A** if you climb over it. It is a much smaller area to monitor than the border. A fence alone won’t keep a determined person out because there are always ways to defeat those fences. There has to be some kind of surveillance, and violators must be meet with human intervention. That is the only thing that will work in the end. Short of a mine field.
yes funny how peoples’ performance colors how people perceive them and their philosophies
yes funny how peoples’ performance colors how people perceive them and their philosophies
Also I must note that nobody has been more acutely aware of legal challenges than Rick Perry and Greg Abbott.
They are suing the EPA at this moment
“This is not to say fences and the military are a total waste. I think the more we do the fewer criminals and the fewer illegals we will have....and we need to do it. However keeping all bad guys out is not possible and it is certainly not cost effective....and I doubt an electric fence makes much sense”
So just keep doing what you are doing now. That makes a lot of sense . . . not.
BTW, your screen name leads me to believe you are Michelle Obama. If you are Michelle Obama, did you feel proud of your country when you were doing those jumping jacks this week?
Well, actually it is working, just not as good as it should or would if the Feds would do their duty and send the resources necessary.
The number of illegals detained at the border form 2007-2009 (300,000 range) is almost half of what it was from 2005-2007. And is MUCH lower than it was from 2000-2005.
The numbers from 2009-2011 aren't out yet but I'd expect them to be even less due to the economy in the US.
Heavily fine those that hire the illegals and don't give them benefits and they will self deport.
Agreed
Check out the thread just posted by Clairity on what else Texas has been doing.
“Ive even seen some turn arounds here on Perry from some original Texas supporters of his (although sometimes they seem to get driven back into the cow pen, lol!)”
I look at this as a training ground. We hone up our arguments and then go out in the real world. Between this site and Rush, it’s child’s play to have debates with non-political junkies.
“By the way, thanks for putting up the good fight - I really appreciate it. We should all really be going to bed.”
Thanks, my wife’s saying that too. LOL. It was fun.
Why did you just say that to woofie? WTF is wrong with you?
That would have been better than his current strategy of combating illegal immigration called, fittingly enough:
COMPLETE SURRENDER!
“Why did you just say that to woofie? WTF is wrong with you?”
Could you please be more specific?
There are actually a lot of things wrong with me.
Perhaps Arizona and Alabama are familiar to you. When the feds don’t do their jobs, these states utilized states rights to take their own action. Funny, I would have thought Texas would have lead the way and not be an enabler of illegals crossing.
I am sorry for your troubles.
Good night.
LOL
Looking for info on the fence, and came across the stories about Mexican military incursions here in Texas, aiding the drug runners. That reminded me of the stories we heard in our town last month from the Texas Border Volunteers.
http://www.texasbordervolunteers.org/home.php
Fences don’t do much against heavily armoured vehicles and military style “incursions.”
We need an “all of the above,” but strategically designed plan to secure the border. The problem is that we’ve got good conservatives playing politics and appealing to crowds who don’t discern between Arizona’s desert and Texas’ Rio Grande - and who have never even considered the unwatched coasts.
That UT law article http://www.utexas.edu/law/clinics/humanrights/work/Border-Wall-right-to-property.pdf , the Samuel Logan article http://www.samuellogan.com/articles/texans-fence-with-federal-authorities.html the Boston Review article http://bostonreview.net/BR35.5/barry.php and the Texas Border Volunteers reinforce the same theme: we need more efficiency and planning than what we’re doing and we need to convince the people of the US that there’s a plan and that we know why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Americans will voluntarily sacrifice their time, money and even their lives in service for our country, but resent want appears to be inaction or arbitrary do-something-itis leading to overreaching and growth of powerful bureaucracies. )Our Nation wasn’t built on involuntary sacrifice. We thrived on voluntary sacrifice out of love of liberty that led to the love of our country.
Lol !! You should read up on Texas under Rick Perry a bit...they do quite a bit on border security...sorry you fell for the Dem-planted talking points.
What, no mine field? It would SOUND much better with a mine field.
There should be at least 999 mines per section.
