Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

Funny how I refer to Mr Cain, as Mr Cain and you call Mr Perry “little idiot Perry”
Do you think these that could care less about border security have locks on their doors? It seems so very strange given what little we know now about 'fast and furious' that we have NO CLUE who slips across our borders... I really do NOT get this lazy attitude.
And as you may know, Bob, they are misrepresenting your state. The people here are giving us the worst taste of Texas that I’ve ever experienced. And I speak as a jaded New Yorker who knows a thing or two about pushy folks, lol!
First, I’m not commenting on this Sam Logan dude because I have no clue who he is.
Second, I really don’t care if the fence causes problems down there, but I’m also sure that Cain will not put up with the cockiness of federal dudes down there - he’s not like Rick Perry.
Finally, there are 300,000,000 other Americans that need the fence...they are my priority. I’m simply not into turning national defense issues into local spats.
It is late.
I’m not after you Bobl..we just don’t agree.
No crime in that.
Good evening.
NO, it doesn't. NO state has done more or SPENT more to secure the border than Texas. No state has more INCENTIVE to secure the border than Texas. We are on the front lines in this battle and we are NOT the enemy.
“Every Hispanic I work is on the conservative side of the issue, but I don’t antagonize them with crap like electric fences, machine guns and such.”
And neither is Cain (unless you work with Illegals).
“And Illegal Hispanics sure wont vote democratic, because Perry passed VOTER ID “
The illegals already have their IDs here in Texas. Now if Perry would have passed Voter ID in 2001, rather than the Texas Dream Act, then we’d certainly be in much better shape now in the area of legal voting.I

Good point, he’s not little.
Perry has NO control how illegals vote in other states that come though his state, get college educated and move on to other states.
The Border argument is far from rational these days . I have tried countless times to point out the futility of much of this.
if I was a bad guy in Mexico and looked up and saw an electric 50 foot tall fence
I think I would head to one of 2 coasts (the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico).
There I would buy or rent a boat and and head north for an hour or two.
It will be real real hard to put up a fence up and down both coasts
This is not to say fences and the military are a total waste. I think the more we do the fewer criminals and the fewer illegals we will have....and we need to do it. However keeping all bad guys out is not possible and it is certainly not cost effective....and I doubt an electric fence makes much sense
And after all this time, its STILL NOT WORKING. Heavily fine those that hire the illegals and don't give them benefits and they will self deport. Saving Texas tons of money! Everyone will be happy!

Yea, they are, but this is Perry’s base. You can always tell who the professionals are because they never admit to being wrong about their guy, or that their guy has ANY flaws.
But there are a few (very few) that will own-up about Perry once in a while. They’re the ones that can be talked to. The others are just here for us to have fun with and brush up our debating skills.
I hear you. Good evening to you and enjoy your Sunday.

Ever try to cross the Southern border in a boat? Try it some time...we’re not as crappy at protecting our waters and airspace as you might think.

Perry seemed to take a realistic view of boarder security in his first primary debate. It didn’t sell very well.
If he'd make sure they stayed in Texas it wouldn't be so bad. But once in Texas, they cross those other borders easily too.
Im sure they do a good job but if someone want to get here sonner or later they will do it
Isn't his 'law' being challenged? A wee bit early to say what the judicial branch will do to the voter ID law. Liberals have a history of busing in bodies to vote in their close elections.
I’ve even seen some turn arounds here on Perry from some original Texas supporters of his (although sometimes they seem to get driven back into the cow pen, lol!)
By the way, thanks for putting up the good fight - I really appreciate it. We should all really be going to bed.
