The Border argument is far from rational these days . I have tried countless times to point out the futility of much of this.
if I was a bad guy in Mexico and looked up and saw an electric 50 foot tall fence
I think I would head to one of 2 coasts (the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico).
There I would buy or rent a boat and and head north for an hour or two.
It will be real real hard to put up a fence up and down both coasts
This is not to say fences and the military are a total waste. I think the more we do the fewer criminals and the fewer illegals we will have....and we need to do it. However keeping all bad guys out is not possible and it is certainly not cost effective....and I doubt an electric fence makes much sense

Ever try to cross the Southern border in a boat? Try it some time...we’re not as crappy at protecting our waters and airspace as you might think.

Perry seemed to take a realistic view of boarder security in his first primary debate. It didn’t sell very well.

So just keep doing what you are doing now. That makes a lot of sense . . . not.
BTW, your screen name leads me to believe you are Michelle Obama. If you are Michelle Obama, did you feel proud of your country when you were doing those jumping jacks this week?
Looking for info on the fence, and came across the stories about Mexican military incursions here in Texas, aiding the drug runners. That reminded me of the stories we heard in our town last month from the Texas Border Volunteers.

Fences don’t do much against heavily armoured vehicles and military style “incursions.”
We need an “all of the above,” but strategically designed plan to secure the border. The problem is that we’ve got good conservatives playing politics and appealing to crowds who don’t discern between Arizona’s desert and Texas’ Rio Grande - and who have never even considered the unwatched coasts.
That UT law article http://www.utexas.edu/law/clinics/humanrights/work/Border-Wall-right-to-property.pdf , the Samuel Logan article http://www.samuellogan.com/articles/texans-fence-with-federal-authorities.html the Boston Review article http://bostonreview.net/BR35.5/barry.php and the Texas Border Volunteers reinforce the same theme: we need more efficiency and planning than what we’re doing and we need to convince the people of the US that there’s a plan and that we know why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Americans will voluntarily sacrifice their time, money and even their lives in service for our country, but resent want appears to be inaction or arbitrary do-something-itis leading to overreaching and growth of powerful bureaucracies. )Our Nation wasn’t built on involuntary sacrifice. We thrived on voluntary sacrifice out of love of liberty that led to the love of our country.
Speaking of trying to land on the East or West coasts, what happens is Coast Guard will interdict you far at sea ~ we have electronic surveillance that detects your presence way out there ~ and you will open your mouth to speak Spanish and we will TAKE YOU BACK TO CUBA!
