Cain Proposes Electrified Border Fence
Pravda- NY Times Division ^ | 10/15/11 | Wyatt

Posted on 10/15/2011 4:18:53 PM PDT by VinL

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...

Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.

The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..

It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.

“It’s going to be 20 feet high. It’s going to have barbed wire on the top. It’s going to be electrified. And there’s going to be a sign on the other side saying, ‘It will kill you — Warning.’” At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written “in English and in Spanish.”

“This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors,” Mr. Cain said at the second rally. “We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And we’re going to shut off the back door so you don’t have to sneak into America.”

It’s one more area Cain is clueless on. Did you bother to read the various treaties?

Terrain, has absolutely nothing to do with it, and yes I have been there several time, have been in Mexico also. You have terrain, cat has the equipment. You are a defeatist.

Why worry about facts? Let’s just beat up Rick Perry unfairly for illegal immigration.
That is the flavor du jour, is it not?

I only mention MR Reagan to bring light to this rabid Perry bashing on immigration.
I never meant in any way to malign Mr Reagan.

Oh, and your link does not work.

Pumps, pipes ~ already in use ~ there's your answer.

Or do you imagine that every day 24 million Texicans walk down to the Rio and dip their buckets for a drink.

<>B>"The solar panels from those bankrupt solar power companies can provide all the electricity we need to power that electric fence in the more remote regions!" So, you put all that high voltage electricity generated by those solar cells on the fence. You will still have to use conventionally generated electricity to electrify the fence at night because solar works only during daylight hours.

Finally, the electric fence idea is a short circuit to failure. And the higher the voltage on that fence, the bigger the blowout when that ground clamp is applied. It should take out at least a few transformers in the string.

A better way is the use of Predator Drones outfitted with Small Tactical Munitions to kill border crossers. Of course, what kind of reaction you would create with that type of action is anyone's guess. A few dead children, old women, little girls, who knows, you might risk starting a war with Mexico and perhaps retaliatory terrorist activity.

“Electrocuting children and babies?

Certainly he’s not proposing that?

This has to be a joke”

Yes, half the good, “Christian”, “pro-life” people here are cheering at the prospect of electrocuting Mexican babies. And if you are against murdering law breakers, you are pro-amnesty, blah blah blah. If Cain really believed in the market, he would know removing the incentives for people to come here illegally would force most to leave on their own. No need to kill a bunch of folks, I know that disappoints some of you populist riff-raff. So now evidently we are stuck between choosing Obama-commie or Willard. Is that the best we can do? And this site is becoming as hateful in its way as the Dummy Underground site is. I’m sick of this.

No Fence in the middle of the desert means that the State of Israel supports open borders and Palestinian terrorist infiltrators".
No Fence in the middle of the desert means that the Governor of Texas supports open borders and illegal immigration.

Great answer.

Now we’re talking!

Inform Mexico, warn Mexico, put up signs, station the troops, and plug in the fence!!

Thank you, Mr. Cain!

I could have built the fence for the money Jorge pissed away not building the fence. These fools that scream terrain have never seen the mountains they log in Washington and other parts of the northwest.

I have no doubt that he said it. He’s said something about the electric fence before.

During an interview he was asked if he were for a border fence. He said yes, and to electrify it.

It is a tongue-in-cheek statement, hyperbole, that emphasizes that he believes in strong border security. When he says it in a speech, it kills.

He serious position on border security is that it is the federal responsibility and that the border must be physically secured with many different means to meet the challenges of various terrains.

I’ll try to find the videos. The NYT is making this into a MUCH bigger deal than it is. But remember, they’re the same ones that said that Cain said that ALL poor people should blame themselves for being poor.

They’ve twisted his words before. They’re doing it again.

Well, people can read your avoidance for themselves and see the name calling for what it is.

That’s the way it works for Cain.

He can say he is done with the Naggerhead rock matter, and he gets a free pass.

I’m from the Adirondacks in New York and from a logging family. You are correct. The level of engineering it takes to simply log an area exceeds the entire tech of building that fence by orders of magnitude.

Terrain has a great deal to do with it.

I am no defeatist.

I simply disagree that a wall is feasible. I think other ways might be more effective.

Sorry that we disagree.

Don’t count on it. He’s still wring his hands cuz the feds won’t do something. If he wants to give illegals services and not punish those that hire them, then let him/Texas pay for all of it. If you’re going to offer enticements for them to come. THEY WILL.
