Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

The United States of America has laws that allow for anyone to seek citizenship.
I don't know where you live but in our community we have illegals that law enforcement can't event communicate with and children in school that don't know one word of English so there are now special programs.
Perhaps there should just be a nice big happy van at the border where folks can line up either from the north or the south and deliver them to your State or Community to support, monitor and take care of for the rest of their lives. Personally, I've got better things to do with my salary, including helping those United States citizens that need a hand up in life!
I love the Sorry Gulch!
The Founders were apparently quite happy with that. If you have a dispute with the idea take it up with the courts; not me. Entirely too much water under the bridge to be able to handle all the combinations and permuations in a single thread.
These people did it, but the it is longer than the mexican border. http://m.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/sep/05/bangladesh-india-border-fence?cat=commentisfree&type=article
Congress already passed a law that keeps EPA out of the picture. The USSC refused cert to a case about a related issue involving some Texas border towns.
One should never assume. :) I am actually leaning toward Newt..not a firm decision, but I don’t have to today, by the time I am able to vote in the primary..it will be decided.
That’s cool that you lived here nine years. I have lived here all of my life. I’m not for an open border any more than you are. We just disagree in the method of containment.
This could be the first infrastructure project to put the unemployed back to work as well.....but then collecting unemployment, disability and watching Judge Judy all day is so much more interesting
Maybe that is where the troops with loaded guns come in???
I did not realize the Buffalo Soldiers rode after Az statehood.
I actually lived in Hereford, on Keeling Rd, and never felt so comfortable any other place in mylife.
People need to hit you tybe and watch construction videos for Three Gorges Dam, The Hoover Dam, any of the Golden Gate sized bridges, and like feats of construction and then tell me how we cannot make a measly little fence on, or IN a river.
Just excuses to support Perry and avoid protecting America.
“The country is broke. Where would the money come from? In order to station military on the border ....”
This is far less expensive than the continuing costs (food stamps, hospitalization, housing and other “entitlements”) that go to 12-30 million illegals.
Most of the posters on this thread who are hardcore Cain supporters, don't sound like conservatives to me. They sound like wackos.
You really think Ronald Reagan or even Sarah Palin would have talked about electrifying the Tex-Mex border fence. Boots on the ground and drones in the air, you betcha.
These nativists want landmines and machine guns.
They also follow on remarks made by Representative Michele Bachmann on Saturday during a speech on illegal immigration in Iowa, in which she also advocated a border fence.
Saying that some critics have told him that his remarks about building a fence are insensitive, Mr. Cain said that the fault lies with the actions of some illegal immigrants. Its insensitive for them to be killing our citizens, killing our border agents, he said. Thats whats insensitive. And that mess has to stop.
In addition using a fence and unspecified technology to cut down on illegal immigration, Mr. Cain added: If we have to put troops with real guns and real bullets for part of it, we can do that too.
There is no land that the government has to take to build the fence.
“...don’t sound like conservatives to me. They sound like wackos.”\
Projection...another liberal trait you display on this thread. Why?
Absolutely correct - "Hope and Change" did it for this train wreck we have now.
So your answer is open borders. Thats fine, dude. Perrys the guy. .... BobL
That is a silly Agitprop Straw-man argument, BobL.
"No Fence in the middle of the desert means that the State of Israel supports open borders and Palestinian terrorist infiltrators".
"No Fence in the middle of the desert means that the Governor of Texas supports open borders and illegal immigration."
See Post 119.
Perry's strategy is EXACTLY the strategy being used by Israel, right now, on it's southern border.
I never said we should let them in.
I am 100% FOR securing the border. But the right way and the logical way.
Perry has exactly the right idea and the experience to stop illegal immigration. He can’t do it as Governor of Texas but he can do it as President.
Cain’s immigration proposal prior to today was exactly the same as Perry’s.
But the remarks by Cain today - he’s a loose cannon and scary. It is obvious, at least to us Texans, that this man does not know what he is talking about. He’s clueless and a wild crazy person.
This is who you would trust to have their finger on the “button”. This is who you would trust to deal with foreign nations?
This guy just goes OFF like a lunatic.
Not at all Presidential.
He makes Ron Paul look very sane and intelligent.
