Tuesday’s ‘Debate’ Means Nothing — Perry’s Pluses Are Still Undeniable
Pajamas Media ^ | 12th October 2011 | Kyle-Anne Shiver

Posted on 10/13/2011 3:50:05 AM PDT by shield

Can we even call what went down at Dartmouth last night a debate? Not in my book. But even so, the word is out that Governor Rick Perry is dead in the water after last night’s “debate” and the reason is that he is a rotten “debater” and can’t translate the Texas economic miracle into greater American lingo-ese.

Perry couldn’t win American Idol, that’s for sure.

But I still think writing off the governor of the most successful state in the union is a mistake Americans might not be able to afford at this point.

The fruit of solid economic policies is undeniable.

I’m old school when it comes to judging a candidate for president. Oh, I find myself getting all emotional and weak at the knees occasionally when I hear a booming speech or a tidbit of soaring, heartfelt oratory. I am, after all, female. But when it comes down to punching that ballot, I’m a real pragmatist looking for a proven track record in a sizable government of a state I admire.

And the more I read these days, Perry’s pluses are still undeniable – in spite of his falling poll numbers. Even if I take two points off Perry’s score for that Texas swagger and another five points for the debates and another ten for the sum of things he’s done against the perfectly conservative creed, that man still comes off looking like a president.

I’m forced to add in a bonus score for Perry due to the fact that by now Americans in the other 49 states are downright desperate for some Texas-brand prosperity.

This is what they call a "standing headline" in the newspaper biz.

Soon we will be hearing from the Perry crowd how the "Iowa Caucus means nothing" and how the "New Hampshire primary means nothing"...

The fruit of solid economic policies is undeniable.

The solid economic policies that make Texas an economic miracle are the same ones that make Saudi Arabia an economic miracle - locate the oil under where you are standing and dig it out. No great mystery here. As long as this society is petroleum based Texas will always have a booming economy, regardless of who is in the Governor's mansion. Perry's a RINO. The last thing we need.

OH...guess you’ve not taken a good look at the Texas economy...it is a heck lot more than energy.

Can I keep your ridiculous post to show others? Do you know how provably false your statement is?

I believe, and I think he does too, that we don't need some new gimmicky plan.

In Texas the basic foundation is low taxes, predictable regulation, low spending and let the system work.

America needs to make Bush tax cuts permanent.

Cut spending.

Balanced Budget Amendment

Consolidate or eliminate redundant or unnecessary agencies.

Reign in the EPA who strangles innovation and job creation

and drill baby drill.

I don't think this is that hard to get out of, we need to remember why the TEA Party grew up out of nothing(taxes and spending) and what Congress just went through when Obama wanted to raise the debt ceiling.

LOL. The difference is Saudi Arabia is allowed to dig it out.

Imagine how much larger Texas's economy would be if there weren't so many restrictions, regulations and other roadblocks put in its way.

I want for Perry to be the answer to our prayers.

But he needs to show me a lot more.

drill baby drill.

How come you were able to expound on the Perry plan as you did and all Perry could come up with when asked the same question the other night was the above.

I liked this guy and was very willing to support him but either he is lazy and thinks he can get by with a steely stare and squinty eyes or he just can't communicate. I'm beginning to think “he's all hat and no cattle”.

You, and about 10-15% of the population. The rest of the people can't take a break from watching Dancing With The Stars and have written Rick off.

The Big Media tries to dictate what is important, as they blindly follow their anointed chosen dictator.

I really think we need a guy who doesn't like DC. Who actually thinks in his heart, DC is not the answer. Many pay lip service to this but it's not clear it's in their heart.

Most politicians think Washington has the answer. Perry actually thinks there isn't an answer in Washington, it's in Texas or Pennsylvania or Ohio because that state government is closest to it's people and therefore more likely to be rebuked by the electorate for bad policy.

I don't think anyone else actually thinks that. That is also part of Perry's problem. He wants Washington to be inconsequential, no one else does, especially those who make a good living by Washington being very consequential.
