McManus: Mitt Romney and the Not-Romneys
Los Angeles Times ^ | Oct 13, 2011 | Doyle McManus

Posted on 10/13/2011 2:40:50 AM PDT by Clairity

There may still be half a dozen contenders for the Republican presidential nomination, but the race has always had room for only two: Mitt Romney and someone who isn't Mitt Romney. After four full-scale debates, that second spot, reserved for a more conservative candidate, is still unfilled; the fiscal firebrands of the tea party haven't found an ideal alternative to Romney, leaving the party's right wing divided. It's beginning to look as if the former Massachusetts governor will win the nomination almost by default — an odd outcome to a year that began with the tea party triumphant.

That also explains the boomlet for Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza; he's never had to cut a deal with a legislature or think about getting reelected. Cain's actually running first in polls in Iowa and South Carolina, but it's hard to believe that he will stay there once voters notice that his 9-9-9 plan would impose a 9% federal sales tax on groceries — and that's a first step toward a 30% sales tax.

If Romney and the Not-Romneys keep to their current courses, that moderate-sounding conservative from Massachusetts could have the GOP nomination sewn up by Jan. 31. That would give him 10 full months to campaign against Obama, whose pitch for reelection will remain weighed down by 9% unemployment. Under those circumstances, and judging by his current performance, Romney would be a hard man to beat.

As I said in my post in this thread...

Republicans increasingly see Mitt Romney as the 'inevitable candidate'

Support Cain, get Romney.

We need an EARTHQUAKE.

Sarah Palin is the one & only chance we've got to get a real non-RINO Constitutional Conservative in the White House who can actually DO SOMETHING for Patriot America.

Clarity, do you really think Perry has demonstrated the ability to run and beat Obama so far? I really want him to be the guy but I am in no way comfortable voting for him yet. His first couple weeks were awesome but he has been lackluster all around ever since his first debate. Even his other appearances are falling flat. Hopefully as he starts to lay out policy, he can change course.

The Rnc has already stacked the deck for Mittens . We have debates run by far left wing operations like Bloomberg ( voted the most left media operation in the US). The NH primary which is Open so Dems can register as indies and vote for the weakest link like Mittens or Huntsman the Ibama trojan horse.
Mittens has one maybe two stalking horse on his right to divide the vote.
No offense where was that great advertised Cain attack on Mittens ????
Only Perry has attacked Romney ! And it appears Bachman works for Mittens .
We are screwed.

All of a sudden this communist, mcmanus, is worrying about a tax that is too high.

This morning, Art Laffer, Godfather of the laffer Curve, and proponent of Ronald Reagan's lower tax plan, decided to back Herman's 9-9-9 tax plan.

The 9-9-9 plan is a first step to a fair {flat tax} and the 9-9-9 plan needs a little more refinement but it is not going to be the demise of Herman's run.

Is it necessary to tear down a conservative to push your chosen candidate? I support Herman Cain and I say it often enough but I've never seen the necessity of tearing down Bachmann, Perry or any conservative to do so. Truth is I could happily vote for your guy Perry in the general election.

I rip Romney any chance I get because Romney is the enemy of all right thinking conservatives. People like Paul and Huntsman will always be on the fringe and I wouldn't waste my time beating on them.

Romney & Obama are the real and present dangers to our republic, not Cain.

Cain vs Anti conservatives
The fact that Cain has not been required to deal with the legislative processes does concern me..
But;

Its been recently announced that oral sex not smoking is the leading contributer to cancers of the mouth. Follow that with fluctuations in solar activity as the cause of GW/C (global warming/cooling).

Those who believe otherwise like Romney, Christy, even Perry to a certain extent (example Gardasil) etc are are infected with the PS (pseudo science) syndrome which is akin to the BDH (bolvine defecation hyperbole) syndrome otherwise more commonly known as BS.
Having this infection means that they would be inclined to implement costly governmental behavior modification of these perceived problems and chisel their name into granite programs to save the world but wouldn’t alas costing US money and take eons to remove..

One thing for certain Cain has demonstrated to all Americans
that not all Americans with darken skin are not all of the socialist mind.

"Doyle McManus" in the author line = [BARF ALERT]

This is LSM spin, y'all ....

Mittens has one maybe two stalking horse on his right to divide the vote.

Yeah. Rick Perry. The Establishment encouraged him to jump in, against his better judgment, precisely to accomplish the fracturing on the Right that McManus is now sniggering about behind his hand as he writes this double-bagger.

And it appears Bachman works for Mittens .

No, her campaign manager, Ed Rollins, does.

One of these days she'll figure out who her friends are. She's too much the ingenue to play with these guys yet.

We are screwed.

That's the RiNO plan. You going to help it along by helping Clairity push that "|Anybody but Perry| = Obama" political canard?
