INDIANAPOLIS -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry says an Iranian-backed terror plot coordinated in Mexico proves the U.S. must secure its southern border.
The Republican presidential hopeful used Tuesday's announcement that Iranian forces had sought to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S. to call for more border troops, improved fencing along the Mexican border and increased border patrols including the use of predator drone surveillance.
Perry opened his speech to Republican activists in Indianapolis on Wednesday with a call for increased border security. He called allegations that Iranian forces sought to kill the Saudi diplomat "business as usual" for Iran.

The very best, fastest and cheapest way to secure America’s border with Mexico against *terrorists* is remarkably simple.
Offer a bounty to Mexicans for every non-Mexican they inform on trying to cross the border. The amounts offered are so small that they could easily be paid by just some rich person. And yet that border would be closed airtight to non-Mexican aliens.
All a Mexican would have to do is call a phone number and tell them the description of the crosser, and where and about when they intend to cross. In exchange they would be given a random 7 digit ID number.
They could call in a few days, and if a foreigner was caught, they would get say $500 if he was a nobody, $1000 if he was wanted, and up to $5000 if he was a big name. The informant would get the money in cash, in dollars or pesos if he wanted. No questions asked, and no mention to the Mexican government, so they couldn’t confiscate it from him.
However, the scheme would only work if the federal government would not “catch and release” non-Mexican illegal crossers, like Iranians, Pakistanis, Saudis, and other high probability terrorist suspects LIKE THEY DO NOW.
Just South of the border, there are thousands of hungry eyes, who would sell their own families for $500. Even the cartels would offer to smuggle non-Mexican foreigners across the border, but would then phone them in for the reward.
That border would be airtight. But the whole scheme ONLY WORKS if the federal government DOES NOT let those foreigners walk. It is insane for doing so.
An "open border" with America's #1 trading partner, that shares 1250 miles with Texas alone, has trade -- and an "open border." You refer to a 2001 summit in Mexico which was in part to encourage border security (with obstacles to it expressed) and hope for the best between our countries and all the problems and the benefits that it entails.
If anyone will work to seal the border and enforce the laws it will be Gov. Perry. The other candidates are just blowing smoke and have not dealt with this as Gov. Perry has. Having this kind of border violence helps neither country.

I was proud to sign legislation requiring a photo voter ID to vote in order to protect the integrity of our elections. And for the obvious security reasons, I vetoed legislation to give drivers licenses to illegal aliens. There is no homeland security without border security. Let me repeat that, there is no security without border security. And make no mistake about it, what we are seeing south of our border is nothing short of a war being waged by these narco-terrorists. They represent a clear and a present danger to our country - they are spreading violence to American cities; they are peddling poisons to our children. In the face of this threat, we shouldn’t take any operations off the table, including security operations in cooperation with the Mexican government, as we did with Columbia some years ago. You can’t have liberty - you can’t have opportunity - you can’t have prosperity, without security.".....

and that a similar law would not be good for Texas.

Perry is good for business, good for jobs creation, good for many things!!!
But, Perry could have done a LOT more, to secure the border and reduce the burden on LEGAL taxpayers, from ILLEGAL immigrants.
and, do we need a President who is simply going to blame others, for what he made at best a token effort to do, while he was appeasing La Raza?
We already have a President who does that.
He supports Section 287(g)and he is against sanctuary cities and has spent time and political capital attempting to change the practices of the City Councils and local Law Enforcement officials who refuse to check citizenship status. However, he has noted (and criticized) the Obama Administration for using regulations to make using 287(g) more expensive and nearly impossible.
Now, the current administration willfully refuses to enforce the laws on the books. While President Bush didn’t do as much as I had hoped, his administration did step up workplace enforcement, reducing the enticement for illegal immigration. President Obama on the other hand, has reversed course. He also has intentionally undermined one of the few successful measures the federal government has implemented. Section 287 (g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows the deputization” of local law enforcement after training from federal authorities so that they may process illegal immigrants detained in the course of law enforcement activities for removal. This program simply allows local officials to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the application of our laws
Bowing to pressure from interest groups in favor of unchecked illegal immigration, the Obama administration has instead issued new requirements intended to curtail the program by making it more expensive, among other things. So the Federal government is now manipulating successful programs to stop willing local jurisdictions from doing the federal government’s job themselves. pp122-123

Hell No! We should send in a cruise missile each week into Iran and take out a different bridge or power plant. Blame it on pirates. The Iranian people will get pretty fed up with life when they can’t get to work and their transportation system is in tatters sitting around in the dark. They will rightfully blame their prime minister “Armadillo Bob” and kick him to the curb.

Texas and Gov Perry do support Arizona’s right as a state to do whatever on this.
That is Arizona’s argument - they have the right as a state.
I doubt Arizonas’ governor is going to critize Perry on what they do as state as that would take away Arizona’s argument.

Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s amicus brief in the U.S. v. State of Arizona case:
“All Americans should support today’s actions by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and other state attorneys general in their efforts to uphold the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the right of states to provide for the public safety and security of their citizens.
“The federal government has failed to secure our borders as drug activity and murder rates soar in many border communities. States are left with no choice. Until the federal government secures the border, I expect more states to legislate in an effort to protect their citizens.
“Regardless of anyone’s feelings on the Arizona law, we must protect the 10th Amendment and right of states to legislate public safety to keep families and communities secure. I join Texas Attorney General Abbott in opposing the Obama Administration’s effort to undermine the right of states to protect their citizens and govern themselves.”
Or, Perry from 2006 when he was trying to follow a perceived move to the political center (remember, before the Tea Party revival):
“Any of those types of legislation that create divisions are bad,” Perry said. “We need to look at ways to be bringing people together rather than driving wedges between them.”

Perry said he is opposed to building a fence or wall along the entire border with Mexico.
“Strategic fencing in certain urban areas to direct the flow of traffic does make sense, but building a wall on the entire border is a preposterous idea,” he said.
“The only thing a wall would possibly accomplish is to help the ladder business.”
Perry said the federal government needs to quickly enact immigration reform, and he said he supports a guest-worker program that would bring illegal immigrants out of the shadows.
“Our economy is greatly impacted by migrant workers. Let’s create a guest-worker program that takes these workers off the black market and that legitimizes their economic contributions without doing the same for their citizenship,” he said.
Perry said afterward that there needs to be a program that gives illegal immigrants in this country an “expanded period of time” to register for work, indicating they do not have to be on a citizenship track.
“There are a lot of people here who aren’t interested in citizenship,” he said.
“They’re interested in working.”....

Perry is going to be the nominee. Better him than Romney.
It's looking like the top tier is now Perry, Romney & Cain.
We all know Romney is a bigger Rino than Perry.
I really like the idea of a Conservative Black Man as president, but not 100% sure he's ready.
I don't even know if I'll have a choice by the time the Texas Primary rolls around.
Regardless, it'll be straight party vote as usual.
