Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine what caused the death of Hex the champion German Shepherd.
Meanwhile, his family is continuing to raise money in hopes of finding his killer or killers.
Al and Marcia Govednik found the body of their prized German Shepherd the morning of Saturday, October 8, 2011, nearly two weeks after they believe Hex was stolen from their front yard.
"They just beat him and his collar was missing and they dropped him right there," said Marcia Govednik as she pointed to the ditch.

How horrific. What a shame. God bless him and his owners.
Very much a Schutzhund dog, European type (likely mostly Czech):

Some dog show people are that crazy. There was an email that went around a few years ago about an entire breeding program basically being wiped out by a competitor that poisoned the breeding dogs, but not the older ones. This was in French Bulldogs; the person travelled to shows with her entire “flock”, left them all alone at her set-up, crated, and someone came by and fed them some kind of poison. Sickening that someone would do it. I *never* left my GSP I was competing with unattended, even before hearing this story.
That poor dog. His owners are devastated. I agree with the idea that this was done by someone with a bone to pick with the owner. That dog is irreplaceable.
Sadly, even if caught, the law probably will allow the perp to walk free because “it’s just a dog”.
The dog people are crazy, but in a different way. These are European Schutzhund types, not AKC conformation people.
“they are so bonded to me they wont do anything unless I am with them.”
LOL... mine is the same way. He will sometimes go out a rest in the courtyard, but he continually comes back in to check on me.... that can be as many as a dozen times in an hour.
He never misses a day to make me smile.
Indeed they are. Even though at this point and time I have a Shepard mix....lol with Shar Pei and Chow and ????. He's still a Shepard....not to mention a knuckle head. Has the greatest personality of any dog I've ever owned.
I do have a fondness for Siamese kitties too, wonderful pets!
LOVE your pic! He looks like my boy (little longer in the ears but floppy and fur coloring is the same)- part Chow and ?? I can’t see your baby’s eyes, but my boy’s look like Cleopatra lined them. He has that exotic lining around the eyes and swept to the sides look. (Hard to describe, but beautiful.) Very “classic Egyptian”. We were told he was part Beagle, but I have often wondered if he’s part GS. He’s got the best personality, but oh, such a velcro dog to his mama in particular and a bit of a “sight hound” to anything that moves. He’s VERY fast and we have had to intervene on more than one occasion in our backyard with birds, possum, etc...
Congrats on your Dane. You’ll never forget your other buddy, but Danes are really cool dogs and such clowns.
“”Severely beaten head to tail, 12 broken bones including a crushed skull and it all happened post-mortem, so he was already dead,” said Hex’s owner Al Govednik.”
Sickening.
Sorry, that’s what I was referencing, someone’s comment about why the dog did not bark and/or attack a stranger, GSD usually being aloof (towards strangers) but every dog is different. You are right though, they are affectionate and protective towards the family.
All that changed when Canute, the Dane, arrived. Now they spend about an hour a day wrestling with each other, barking, nipping, and fake growling as though they're about to kill each other. Somehow, however, there's never any damage or blood.
Canute's favorite move is his variation of the classical WWE move when one “contestant” runs back and forth across the ring, bouncing off the ropes, and then collides with his “opponent,” knocking the “opponent” down. Canute's variation is he jumps off a couch on one side of the room, dashes Ave to a chair on the other side, bounces off it, and then smacks into Ulysses.
I know, it's disgraceful puppy pandemonium, but it's so funny, I don't want to stop it.
I have a Belgian tervuren and the last dog I had was the same.
Dogs are great but if you want to know hwo loves you more then do this test.
Put your dog in the trunk for an hour and let it out.
The dog will kiss you
Now get your wife or girlfriend in the trunk for an hour and see if you get a kiss of her.
Now you know who loves you more.
BTW
This is a joke and no I do not advocate putting anything alive in a trunk
LOL, that’s funny. Haven’t heard it in a while.
Congrats on nailing that Beckett troll!
