Via Breitbart TV, the soundbite of the day from tonight’s debate. Is she right? According to Josh Barro (via our pal Karl), maybe so:
Herman Cains 9-9-9 plan includes a personal income tax, a business tax, and a sales tax, all at flat rates of nine percent. Bruce Bartlett critiques the plan in the New York Times today, and he flags a fact about the business tax that I hadnt been aware of:
“The business tax in the Cain plan bears no resemblance to the present corporate income tax. The tax would apply to gross sales less dividends paid and all purchases from other companies, including investment goods. Thus, there would be no deduction for wages.”
This is far more similar to a value-added tax than to a corporate income tax. And indeed, the description on Cains website matches Bartletts, saying the business tax would apply to Gross income less all investments, all purchases from other businesses and all dividends paid to shareholders. One question is what Cain means by gross income, but I think he has to mean something like gross revenueanything that looks like a profits concept would already exclude purchases from other businesses and so they would not be there to deduct.
In other words, in effect he’s proposing both a sales tax and a de facto VAT that’ll operate as a second sales tax on top of it. I’m not sure Bachmann realizes that or else she would have nailed him on it right here. Bad enough that Congress gets to play with one new “invisible” tax on consumers, but two?
Perry saying that STILL makes him look better to me than Romney who will just lie and flip for the election.
Apparently what is clear is you have NO idea what is in 9-9-9.
You keep posting the same utterly irrational complaint about 9-9-9.
There is nothing that stops the current tax rates from being hiked by Congress. The notion that 9-9-9 gives Congress MORE power, as Tax Lawyer Bachaman claimed, is completely divorced from reality. Congress has that power now, there is nothing in 9-9-9 that gives them any more power then they currently have now.
9-9-9 actually makes it much harder to raise taxes. Since everyone pays, everyone knows any tax hike will be paid by them personally.
9-9-9 eliminates ALL the current loopholes Congress currently has in the Tax Code to favor this or that group. It also eliminates any ability to pass off goverment spending as someone else paying for what you are getting. Since everyone pays, everyone knows they will pay more to “get stuff” from the Government.
So find a new attack line cause that one is completely baseless
Caines (9/9/9) plan still allows the federal government to steal 27% of the economy...
Must be Plan B of the globalists and One Worlders..
Meaning Hermie is league with the One Worlders...
NOTHING will stop them from making the 9/9/9 to be 12/12/12 in a few months.. or even 33/33/33 eventually..
Caine seems to be ROPE-A-DOPING the American people..
**NOTE- The LAST thing the federal government Needs is MORE MONEY..
Ah I see. So how much is Romney paying you to come here and pimp disinformation?
Keep telling yourself that.
You think Boehner and McConnel have the principled stones of Cain? Eh, they’ll be compromising us into higher taxes with a game of bait and switch.
Cain will end up having to veto his own plan.
RE: Said he would attack him...didnt dare attack Romney. Cain is a Romney man. That is a glaring fact.
Actually, in the candidates Q&A of each other last night, Cain sort of (in a respectful way ) ridiculed Romney’s 160 page economic plan as having little or no focus and too filled with a lot of desiderata and wish list for people to remember. In fact, he even challenged Romney by asking him if he remembers everything in his own plan.
Congress has that power now, there is nothing in 9-9-9 that gives them any more power then they currently have right now.

“You mean like a 2/3 majority of Congress to change it? “
What the heck are you talking about? There is no 2/3 majority rule requirement, no matter what the law would say. Congress is not bound by existing law, it can simply rewrite existing law any way it likes.
I thought this is something people are taught by the time they enter third grade.
Only constitutional amendment would give you 2/3 majority rule protection, but Cain did not propose that.

Have you seen this video of Romney?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OQoBxZZPqU
How can you defend that or even trust him on his word??? I’m sorry, but I can’t trust someone that keeps changing their position.
BTW, what is Romney’s or Perry’s tax plan?
Republicans will be committing suicide IF they put Romney. It will be a repeat of 2008.
The Republican Establishment needs to understand something. People did not vote for them in 2010, they voted against Obama and the Democrats. So if the Republicans want to get their power back, then they better bend over to the conservatives or kiss their asses good bye.
Trust me the Tea Party will organize IF Romney gets the nomination.
A vote for Romney will mean McCain II. Obama will get another 4 years and the Republicans will be done.
You don’t have to believe it. Go ahead and roll the dice! I dare them!
For the record I will NEVER vote for a LIBERAL like ROMNEY.
ONE MORE THING. THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE THAT DISLIKE ROMNEY (IN THE SOUTH), THAN MCCAIN. REST ASSURED IF THE REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT GETS THEIR LIBERAL BOY ROMNEY, THEN IT WILL BE OBAMA ANOTHER 4 YEARS AND THE RAISE OF THE TEA PARTY.
Seems us "heartless" Conservatives are being mean asking EVERYONE to have some skin in the tax game. Apparently WE are supposed to pay for all the stuff the Perry-bots want the Government to do for them.
..... so any future Congress can monkey around with it after hes gone. secondly, the 2/3 clause can be waived by a future Democrat Congress.
And this is new?
Oh are we Conservatives being “heartless” again asking EVERYONE have some skin in the tax paying game?
>>> He can’t do that, it would be admitting it’s only a ploy to get into office. And don’t shout, we can hear you.
But it’s not a ploy. It’s a valid and bold plan with one small problem... it creates a new revenue generating engine for the federal government.
You can throw out the third leg without throwing out the plan.
OH.. and I wasn’t shouting. I was emphasizing for the post scanners. ; )
No, what you are is naive. Naive to believe that if you just keep screaming the same attack lies over and over that will somehow help your cult of personality candidate, St Rick.
Your commentary about Cain is shrill, hysteric and rabidly ignorant. Try actually learning something about Cain, don't just mindlessly cling to your feelings about Perry.
Which is an utterly irrational complaint to make about 9-9-9.

And I will make the same point to you AGAIN since the facts have been presented and you CLING to the fraudulent attack line.

perry has pros and cons, but coddling illegals is a very serious issue, even if his state is swimmin in em...
if thats his position, fine, but he just proved that politics trumps principle, and thats a non starter...
i know, i know, principle doesnt matter when we're trying to beat the bambam...
