Texas Gov. Rick Perry has apparently learned the hard way that in a high-stakes presidential campaign, youre not just accountable for what you and your campaign staff say, youre also accountable for what your supporters say.
According to Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer, Perry should address an emerging media frenzy about one of his supporters, Rev. Robert Jeffress, who at the Values Voter Summit on Friday denounced former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romneys candidacy due to his adherence to Mormonism, which he called a cult.
Krauthammer expects to hear questions about Romneys religion at Tuesday nights GOP debate.

What I would say is "I don't know enough about Mormonism to be able to pronounce whether I believe it's a cult or not. Look at the Mormon belief system yourself and make your own decision. It's not my place to judge."
The only other thing I can say is that I would not vote against Romney because he's a Mormon per se. There are plenty of reasons to not vote for Romney, but him being a Mormon is not one of them, as far as I'm concerned.
Having said that, Mormonism does, in my humble opinion, have some cultish aspects, and in any event it seems to be a needless addendum to New Testament Christianity. It does give me some pause; just not enough to disqualify a candidate from being considered for President.
Islam, on the other hand...
There you go again...showing your ignorance.
There you go again...showing your ignorance.
You are so corny!
I don’t see where speaking the truth should be a political issue.
“There you go again...showing your ignorance.”
Wow, that was a thoughtful response...keep up the great work.

I denounce thee!

If Perry is asked about it, and we know he will be, he should answer with a straight face that Jerimiah Wright is his religious advisor...and has been for 20 years.
Those perrywinkles are not bright enough to light up a box of cracker jacks.
Some ex-Mormons have alleged particular intrigues within the LDS church that might make Mitt particularly vulnerable to flip flopping.
... JUST KIDDING!
Harry Reid is a Mormon too, and I could no more vote for him either.
“Those perrywinkles are not bright enough to light up a box of cracker jacks.”
Yea, it’s amazing that he’s letting this hang out so long. Must be some fear involved in cleaning this up...but what?
Untrue. Perry knew him and asked him to do the introduction. The Pastor has a large following and Perry took the chance because of this. The pastors remarks were no surprise as he has made similar statements about Mormons many times before including anti-Mormon statements directed specifically at Romney. All of this was known by Perry before he selected him for the introduction.

Then this was misreported. I recall hearing Fox report that it was the organization that selected him to make the introduction, and not Perry.

It shouldn't. But making irrelevant statements that are just going to give people excuses to attack the guy you claim to support, even if they are unwarranted, is really stupid.
Romney's problem isn't that he's in a cult. He could be an avowed agent of satan himself if he was a believer in liberty and the constitution and I'd be right there with him. God can deal with him later on the other stuff.
Romney's problem is that he's a mealy-mouthed, double-talking, flip-flopping, global-warming-believing, shallow, vacuous RINO establishment empty-suit stooge weenie who wouldn't know a true conviction if one snuck up on him and stole his copy of Gerald Ford's autobiography.

I think Charles is dead on. Whether or not Perry has ties w/ this misguided minister, it’s the perception that he does that will kill him among all but the religious bigot contingent.
Yes, I used to like him (sometimes). Ugh!!! Does he not know that freedom of speech and religion needs to be respected? I just watched a movie on the fraudulent LIES of the LDS....it is really quite incredible and their “facts” are so incredible lame. We should be able to state the TRUTH and that goes for islam also.
It was not misreported. Perry did not choose him, they were just acquaintances. The minister said the remarks after Perry was on stage in an interview. The minister was on Fox this am and stated all of that.
