Why America Needs Herman Cain
American Thinker ^ | October 10, 2011 | Ed Kaitz

Niccolò Machiavelli once said that "the man who adapts his course of action to the nature of the times will succeed, and likewise, the man who sets his course of action out of tune with the times will come to grief."

What I'd like to argue in this essay is that based on the current "nature of the times" in America, Herman Cain must be the GOP nominee for president. In fact, Cain's nomination represents what could be the last and best opportunity Americans have to pry our battered country out from the clutches of the increasingly strident, divisive, and Marxist pro-Obama Democrat left.

Conversely, if the nomination goes to Rick Perry or Mitt Romney, it will simply confirm my suspicion that the GOP base is absolutely clueless when it comes to appreciating the unique contours of the American left's long-term strategy to undermine our nation's constitutional heritage and disposition.

The left has successfully poisoned any possibility for a white conservative to attract enough minority voters on a platform based on America's colorblind founding principles. Even a Romney or Perry victory, in other words, will leave America as viciously divided as ever and will merely set the stage for more Republican compromise with political opponents who rarely if ever compromise.

Martin Luther King, in his 1963 "Letter from a Birmingham City Jail," said that when the "disinherited children of God sat down at lunch counters they were in reality standing up for the best in the American dream and the most sacred values in our Judeo-Christian heritage." In addition, said King, "[black people] were carrying our whole nation back to those great walls of democracy which were dug deep by the Founding Fathers in the formulation of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence."

King's early Tea Party proclivities don't...

>>Soooo, everyone is suppose to vote for Cain because he’s BLACK?

I’m not reading that in this article, nor have I read that anywhere else. From what I’ve seen of the candidates, so far, I like Cain, because of his positions on the issues I’ve read about. I frankly don’t care what his skin color happens to be.<<

I, too, like Cain, but I do care that he’s black. If he was white, I’d like him, but his being black is a significant plus, and I think that’s what the author of the American Thinker article was getting at.

Like Bill Cosby, Herman Cain will tell black youth, and parents, that while they have a tougher road to travel than many of us, it’s their personal responsibility to travel that road. Unlike Cosby, Cain would carry far more authority, and would serve as a personal example to them.

As I read the article, the author is saying that the time is passed when a white conservative can successfully present that argument, not because we are incapable of stating it, and stating it well, but because no one on the other side is listening anymore. That’s Cain’s edge...they’ll listen. Oh, their leaders won’t, the Sharpton’s and the Jackson’s and the Rev. Wright’s, even the Obama’s, but the people will.

Herman Cain scares the hell out of the Democrats because, according to their creed, he can’t exist, at least not in America. White America wouldn’t permit it. That’s why they are so convinced everyone who associates themselves with the Tea Party principles must be racist. They’re not capable of thinking otherwise. A black conservative can’t gain national office because we, a racist bunch, would never allow it, goes their thinking.

Herman Cain is the antidote to the poison that has been coursing through American society, the poisonous divisiveness foisted on us by the American Left. They drown out all rational argument, either by refusing to hear, or by shouting it down. But they’ll pay dearly if they try to shout down a President Cain. Cosby, they could ignore. Cain, as President, will be impossible to ignore, and rational argument will again be heard by those who need to hear and consider it.

And we will be surprised at how many about-to-be-former Democrats understand him and agree with him. So, yes, I care that he’s black. As a friend of mine often says, “That’s a good thing.”

>>Can’t happen per the 12th Amendent.

The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves;...<<

The constitution reads that at least one of the candidates must be from a different state than the electors, not that the candidates must be from two different states themselves. That could, though, cost the Vice-Presidency in a close election, so the VP candidate would probably establish a residence in another state before being chosen as a candidate, something simple enough to do, I think.

Oh,, I don’t disagree that Herman Cain can be effective where other conservatives can’t, because he happens to be black. I’m just saying that his being black isn’t why I like him as a candidate.

Funny how some posters here make Obama a Straw Man to compare to and criticize Herman Cain.

At this point in time Mr. Cain is the only one out there speaking up about the idiot 99%ers and pointing out that Obama’s failed policies are the cause of their supposed economic plight. Where are the other Candidates? Crickets.

I watched SNL over the weekend. Seth Meyers, comic and Obama lover, targeted Mr. Cain for his comments about the 99%er Protesters being responsible for their own Financial situation.

Of course he edited Cain's comments as an attack on all the Unemployed and finished up with new Cain Campaign Slogan,
“It's all your fault”. Not once was Obama mentioned.

If there was a Republican in the White House all those Stinky Stupid People Holding Hands would be surrounding the place. The Media is complicit, and now I see Greta on Fox starting her show announcing that the Protesters are people from all walks of life. Goodness sakes...

Herman Cain

Born December 13, 1945 in Memphis, TN (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Luther Cain Jr., born March 16, 1925 in TN, died March 29, 1982 in Atlanta, GA
Lenora Davis, born July 27, 1925 in GA, died August 20, 2005 in Atlanta, GA

Both parents were US Citizens at the time of his birth (Meets the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Herman Cain is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN

■Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
■Master’s degree in Computer Science.
■Mathematician for the Navy, where he worked on missile ballistics (making him a rocket scientist).
■Computer systems analyst for Coca-Cola.
■VP of Corporate Data Systems and Services for Pillsbury.

All achieved before reaching the age of 35.

Since he reached the top of the information systems world, he changed careers.

■Business Manager. Took charge of Pillsbury’s 400 Burger King restaurants in the Philadelphia area, which were the company’s poorest performers in the country. Spent the first nine months learning the business from the ground up, cooking hamburger and yes, cleaning toilets. After three years he had turned them into the company’s best performers.
■Godfather’s Pizza CEO. Was asked by Pillsbury to take charge of their Godfather’s Pizza chain (which was on the verge of bankruptcy). He made it profitable in 14 months.
■In 1988 he led a buyout of the Godfather’s Pizza chain from Pillsbury. He was now the owner of a restaurant chain.
■He was also chairman of the National Restaurant Association during this time.
■Adviser to the Federal Reserve System.
■Chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank.
■Writer and public speaker.
■Radio Host.

Awards

■Honorary Doctorate, Morehouse College, 1988
■Top 25 Black Executives, Black Enterprise, 1988
■Honorary Doctorate, Tougaloo College, 1989
■Honorary Doctorate, University of Nebraska, 1990
■Entrepreneur of the Year, 1990
■Operator of the Year/Gold Plate Award
■International Foodservice Manufacturers Association, 1991
■Honorary Doctorates, Johnson and Wales University and New York City Technical College
■Recipient of humanitarian awards, businessman of the year awards, special recognition awards, and excellence in leadership awards.

The position as Adviser to the Federal Reserve System allowed Herman Cain to see how monetary policy is made from the inside, and understand the political forces that impact the monetary system.

■After reaching the top of the banking industry, Herman Cain changed careers for a fourth time.

■Writer and public speaker. He then started to write and speak on leadership. His books include, Speak as a Leader, CEO of Self, Leadership is Common Sense, and They Think You’re Stupid.

■ Radio Host. Around 2007—after a remarkable 40 year career—he started hosting a radio show on WSB in Atlanta (the largest talk radio station in the country).

■ He did all this starting from rock bottom (his father was a chauffeur and his mother was a maid).

When you add up his accomplishments in his life — including reaching the top of three unrelated industries: information systems, business management, and banking — Herman Cain may have the most impressive resume of anyone that has run for the presidency in the last half century.

It's moot now that Newt moved to Virginia, but No Elector may cast votes for Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates who both inhabit the same state as the Elector. It is, however, possible for an Elector to cast his votes for candidates from the same state, if the candidates' states are different from the Elector's.

This evening I came upon my sister, an avid Obama supporter looking at a website featuring Herman Cain and she told me how much she liked what she saw!

Talk about an experience that made me hopeful for change!

I was able to sit down and have an intelligent conversation about Herman Cain. She hadn’t heard about him before and I helped fill her in on what I knew. It was great fun.

Niccolò Machiavelli once said that "the man who adapts his course of action to the nature of the times will succeed, and likewise, the man who sets his course of action out of tune with the times will come to grief."

Machiavelli also said, "And it ought to be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things. Because the innovator has for enemies all those who have done well under the old conditions, and only lukewarm defenders in those who may do well under the new." The majority of taxpayers who will see their taxes go up under his 9-9-9 plan and those who will see their Social Security gutted under the Chilean Plan and those who will be impacted by they large-scale spending cuts needed to balance the budget under Cain's plan are not going to vote for him and will kill any chances he has of winning.

“Yes, I like Cain but I would nervous about voting for a man who has not held another significant political office (or any type of office) for POTUS. Many people can get up and make a significant speech. We saw it on the other side back in 2008. But what can you do in office, that’s what counts.”

Guess you need to go back and look at Mr. Cain’s record of accomplishments and positions he has held. He didn’t get those positions without being a “leader”. Not so with Buckwheat I might add. Need I say more?

Maybe fifteen or twenty years ago I read an article in an investment advisory bulletin which correctly predicted many of the things which have happened since. One thing I remember quite clearly from the article is a statement that IF America is to be saved the only people who can save it are BLACK MEN. I didn’t think too much about it at the time but I confess that the idea is sounding more realistic every day. No white person can say what needs to be said now without being called a racist. Of course a black person cannot say it either without being called a sellout or an “Uncle Tom” but that is not the same as being called racist.

Seems to me it was entry level for the fellow who holds it now. His resume was negligible at best and his experience in public office consisted of holding a couple of titles for a very short time while voting present. His real world experience next to Cain’s is like a dinghy next to a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
