A leading Southern Baptist theologian spoke out Monday
-SNIP-
........In a posting today on his influential blog, the theologian, R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., spelled out why traditional Christians do not consider the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be simply a different denomination of Christianity.
Mormonism rejects the Bible as the sole and sufficient authority for the faith, and insists that The Book of Mormon and other authoritative Latter-Day Saints writings constitute Gods final revelation, he wrote. By its very nature, Mormonism borrows Christian themes, personalities, and narratives. Nevertheless, it rejects what orthodox Christianity affirms and it affirms what orthodox Christianity rejects.
Dr. Mohler conspicuously did not use the term cult and he said: It is neither slander nor condescension to state clearly that Mormonism is not Christianity.

Competence for public office is also an important Christian concern, as is made clear in Romans 13, he wrote, even citing a legendary statement, attributed to Martin Luther, that he would rather be ruled by a competent Turk (Muslim) than an incompetent Christian.

If we read your stuff out loud, any mispelins go away.
Well!
There you go then!
MORMONism is based on the well known language - Reformed Egyptian.
Your response is EXACTLY the thing we want to see on FR; over and over again!
Yeah but it doesn’t help the stupidity....
Perhaps it’s mere ignorance; which CAN be alleviated.
Guess what. Nobody really cares. If you don't like Romney don't vote for him. I'm not, unless it's him vs obama. And skip the rancid christian bigotry.
You flamers make Romney look like a better Christian than you are.
Can anyone comment truthfully in this thread without getting banned?
Well, I am LDS, and I have read the Bible well over a dozen times.

Guess that makes me ah...
Well something...
Oh I know...
I got an A...
What would Luther say about being ruled by the current Turk(ey) in the WH?
You make this sound, Teppe, like we don't already have a Biblical "test case" precedent on this. We do.
It happened with the "new New Testament revelations" that the Berean Christians were hearing in the era of Acts 17:11. Now what did they do -- that the 19th century Mormons flunked at?
11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
There ya go. What made the Bereans more noble is they compared the newer revelation by the standards of the older revelation.
Mormons (like Lds "prophet" Ezra Taft Benson) are good @ telling their flock to do the exact reverse...to allow the new "Living Prophet" to always trump the written canonized Word!
NO wonder the Mormons flunked nobility in their character test!
(If you were auditioning for godhood, you'd be "nice" too!)
“The BIBLE; however; takes a slightly DIFFERENT stand” From John 3:16-18 “whoever does not believe stands condemned already”
Sorry, but It is God that does the condemming NOT man. He commands us to have a redemptive attitude not a judgmental one. That is where the Westboro Church errors. Let’s not go down that path.
1 John 2:9
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkenss
1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.
1 John 4:20
If anyone says, “I love God.” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. Gor anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
I don’t know how much clearer God can make it. You need to ask yourself what is driving your judgement against Mormons, your prideful spirit or a broken heart? If your heart is not broken for them and any in a non Christian Faith, and they don’t deserve your prayers, then maybe its your walk that needs to be examined.
Matthew 7:1-2
7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. NIV
Too bad people, who see the outward mask Mormons offer to the public, could not see the misery they experience within their hearts minds and homes behind closed doors. Some of their stories are heartwretching once they finally break away from the stronghold of Mormonism.
Gong!!!
Nice try. Your entry, however, qualifies for the potential "Epic Fail" award of the day.
Why? Because Sikhs and Shintos don't masquerade as other religions, do they?
If Mormonism wants to some day stand on its own as some new world religion; so be it. But as of now, it continues to attempt to...
...counterfeit Christianity;
...claim all of the historic Christian sects are "corrupt" and "apostate";
...and then claim to be the "only true and living church on the face of the earth" (Lds Doctrines & Covenants 1:30)
I think it's past time that posters begin taking a look-see @ the founding vision of Mormonism -- and realize that it's built upon the attempt to build a foundation on the spiritual graveyard of Christianity.
Joseph Smith knew that unless he could play scorched-earth religious politics, and get Christianity 100% out of the way, that no "restoration" was necessary. He would be irrelevant. Superflous. So he needed to bury Christianity in its entirety.
Does the following 1820s original vision of Joseph Smith, which a later generation of Mormons converted into Lds "scripture," sound like Kum Ba Yah hugging and embracing of Christians?
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)and which I should join. 19 I was answered that I must join NONE of them, for they were ALL wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that ALL their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were ALL corrupt... (Joseph Smith - History, vv. 18-19, Pearl of Great Price)
So, are you that closed-eyes?...Lds created a huge division in the religious community in the 1830s by labeling all Christians apostates...by calling 100% of our creeds an "abomination" to their god...and by saying we were 100% wrong and unjoinable as churches...all the while calling our leaders/teachers and/or professing believers 100% "corrupt."
Then they decided to spread that slander worldwide with over 100 different translations of that "scripture" and they've literally sent out a million missionaries to discuss our so-called complete apostasy thru the generations.
Why is it so many FReepers flunk fundamental history? Joseph Smith tried to build the biggest spiritual graveyard where he tried to bury all Protestants, all Catholics, and all Orthodox -- and say, "I'm building a restoration upon that graveyard."
And so many posters give them a free pass for that!
some of those might be called protestant.......why can 20,000 or so "denominations" call themselves Christian when they "condensed" the Bible to the KJV, ignored 1,500 years of true christianity, and decided that men like Luther, Wesley, Calvin, Zwingley, Henry VIII were more capable than Christ to found a religion
Sorry. NO go. The reformers reformed; they didn't start from scratch. They didn't ever say that Christ's church was 100% AWOL; or that Christ Himself as Head of the church was deposed.
Of course, NOW Catholic scholars & leaders are saying all kinds of "nice" things about Luther. Imagine that.
(That's the distinction between a reformation -- and Mormonism's restoration).
I’m not going to repeat myself. See my follow-up on post #55. If you still think I am an “Epic Fail” then fine think what you will, but I will still feel sorry for the people like you blinded by hate.
Matthew 7:1-2
7:1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. NIV
