A leading Southern Baptist theologian spoke out Monday
-SNIP-
........In a posting today on his influential blog, the theologian, R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., spelled out why traditional Christians do not consider the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be simply a different denomination of Christianity.
Mormonism rejects the Bible as the sole and sufficient authority for the faith, and insists that The Book of Mormon and other authoritative Latter-Day Saints writings constitute Gods final revelation, he wrote. By its very nature, Mormonism borrows Christian themes, personalities, and narratives. Nevertheless, it rejects what orthodox Christianity affirms and it affirms what orthodox Christianity rejects.
Dr. Mohler conspicuously did not use the term cult and he said: It is neither slander nor condescension to state clearly that Mormonism is not Christianity.

Competence for public office is also an important Christian concern, as is made clear in Romans 13, he wrote, even citing a legendary statement, attributed to Martin Luther, that he would rather be ruled by a competent Turk (Muslim) than an incompetent Christian.

But the MORMONs say that YOUR church is 'incomplete'; for GOD has appeared yet again and given us MORE scripture!
Why don't you guys follow THAT?
And you didn’t answer my challenge, so why should I worry about answering your inane questions.
Any half intelligent thinker would know it’s axiomatic you can’t claim authority from something that doesn’t even claim said authority for itself.
If you claim the Bible as the supreme rule of faith and practice, and the Bible does not make that claim for itself, you must be using the authority of something outside the Bible to do so, thereby making that outside thing of greater authority than the Bible. This is logically indisputable and there is no middle ground.
The Pope is considered the Vicar of Christ on earth....he acts in His place. Of course Christ is the head of the church, but because the Catholic church consists of billions of people, it is handy to have an organizational leader that can make day to day decisions with the guarantee of infallibility that Christ passed down to him.....whatsoever you shall bind on earth, will be bound in heaven and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.....I'll buy that!!
for tha same reason that we don't follow the reinterpretation of the bible presented by the protestants. If you don't like the bible, just leave out the passages that you don't agree with (KJV) never mind that Christians for one thousand five hundred years had pretty much agreed on the bible as it stood.....but oh no, Luther et al decided that they knew better than the brilliant doctors of and leaders of the true church over the years and when king James authorized a rewriting of the bible they ate it up....poor Tobit, they took his book completely out....sad
Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
My daddy is going to be very upset that some people misinterpret the bible like that...I'll venture to guess that Jesus called Joseph His father....ya think??
that's not what your message implied...something about calling no man on earth father...whatever...That would be unusual for God to propose when the commandments state that we should honor our FATHER and mother....do you suppose that it means honor God and mama?????I don't think so...did He call the priests Father...who knows, but He called the Jewish leaders Rabbi. I can't imagine your hangup on such an inane point...the Christian chuch interpreted it just fine for 15 centuries and here you come to clear it all up.....thanks!!!
Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
These are the words of Jesus Himself, surely not "inane".
They are very straightforward and easy to obey.
I call my Dad "Dad" and my pastor by his first name.
But by all means, explain the passage away all you want cuz your church teaches the opposite.
That’s why you LDS are not Christians. You slander probably the leading evangelical scholar in the USA, Al Mohler, if not the world, “a nut-job.”
Just like Joseph Smith, your treasure-hunter/liar/serial-adulterer founder (who would get thrown out of any LDS Church today....living like he surely did), you call actual Christian groups an “abomination.” Everyone else is out of step except for you....
