Voter anxiety on Romney's faith lifts Perry
Financial Times ^ | 10/9/2011 | Stephanie Kerchgaissner

...Mr Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who leads the Republican field of candidates for president, has never been able to shake off doubts over whether evangelical Christians would support him if he became the nation’s first Mormon nominee.

snip

Charlie Cook, a political analyst, predicts that Republicans will see a drawn out contest between Mr Romney, who has limited credibility with hardcore conservative voters, and Mr Perry, who is ideologically in line with conservatives but has not made a smooth transition from the governor’s mansion in Texas to the national stage. The two will spar at another debate on Tuesday night in New Hampshire.

Romney will eventually have to be vetted. Mormonism doesn't sit well with a lot of people and he needs to pony up. It's also high time Conservatives question him on his socialist tendencies and healthcare, also his nuanced position on abortion. If Mormonism is the catalyst for shifting focus from Perry Derangement Syndrome to legitimate vetting of Romney, so be it.

I will not vote for any Mormon. Some Mormons maybe economically sane(though I have yet to see even that), but socially and culturally, they reek of liberalism.

Not hard to see, as polygamy and sexual deviancy is one of their “proud traditions”.

We ought not let the opponents cast this as an issue of one’s faith. They will use that to make us all sound like a bunch of fanatics.

I care less about Romney’s religious faith than I do his Statist beliefs. He still has not repudiated the state-run healthcare he implemented, though he could have to help defeat Obammie the Commie’s state-run healthcare law.

He chose not to. He still defends it.

He’s a RINO.

I’m Jewish and I know little about Mormonism, but I will say this. I worked with a number of them in the Defense Dept. and in the intelligence community and of the ones with whom I associated, they were some of the most honest, patriotic trustworthy, and friendly people I’ve known.

This is not a comment on Mr. Romney or Mormonism in general, just my experience.

What do they call Reid a ‘jack mormon.’

Jack Mormons are those who have “fallen away” from LDS, but continue to claim mormonism as their faith. That’s my understanding of it. I didn’t know they called Reid a jack mormon. Interesting. Sounds like he disowned mormonism to avoid the issues of Romney.

After we finish with the Mormon attack, do we then go after the Jews. I am not mush of those Irish people were do they fit on the list, and those Latino catholics. And those Scottish men in their dresses really bothers me. And those, and those, and those, etc, dang!, do I need the tag.

Yes, they aren’t ex-mormons but do not go to temple and drink alcohol, party and just do un-Mormon activities...including lying through your teeth like Reid. I would imagine Romney is also a Jack Mormon.

I believe in religious freedom -- I would hope you do too.

That said, there's a veritable cornucopia of issues on which to attack Romney and his liberal past be it abortion, guns, RomneyCare, etc. Religion shouldn't be one of them.

This is a media created 'controversy'. And, given that it began with a Perry supporter calling Romney's faith a 'cult', Perry supporters should condemn it also.

Well, there is that illegal alien thing.

Perry does not need any nutbars like this joker speaking in front of him, that’s for sure. It’s hard enough being an evangelical candidate without this kind of crap.

Basically there is more then enough to attack Romney on without even mentioning his religion. Obama would do that immediately if he’s the nominee, but we have a LOT of reasons not to vote for him. He has NO moral core, he shifts his position to whatever he thinks will give him an advantage. I’m hoping that Perry and his people don’t step into that trap. The only safe answer on a question pertaining to Romney’s faith is “I don’t answer questions on another man’s faith. If you have questions on Mormonism, I suggest you ask Mitt.”

The problem with Romney has nothing to do with his Mormonism and everything to do with his Socialism.

Unfortunately, the eneMedia will try to portray us as anti-Mormon bigots.

What is the most reliable block of voters for the Pubs?

If you can't get their support how do you win?

BTW, it's really not so much about the cult he is a member of as it is he's Pro-Abortion, Pro-Homosexual Agenda.

“Perry, who is ideologically in line with conservatives....”

Perry is 'ideologically in line' with Kalifornia's liberal legislature and extremely liberal governor.
