Rick Perry's past came back to haunt him recently. No, not drugs or women or a phony resume. Perry, it turns out, once touched the real third rail of politics: barbecue.
Nineteen years ago, at the 1992 Republican National Convention, a barbecue taste-off pitted beef tenderloin from Joe Allen's Bar-B-Que of Abilene, Texas, against pulled pork from Kings Restaurant in Kinston, N.C. Perry, then the agriculture commissioner of Texas, sampled the Carolina barbecue and declared, "I've had road kill that tasted better than that."

I guess I am not standing up for my state (Texas) but the best BBQ I have ever eaten was in Tennessee. That was a few years ago. I don’t eat BBQ anymore it upsets my stomach. sob~
Undoubtedly still wiping tears from being called heartless on top of that.
I love Eastern Carolina BBQ myself, but my husband hates it sooooo much. He doesn't even consider it true BBQ.

This stupid story has surfaced a number of times in the past month and a half.
People should be worried how they are going to cook their road kill, if this country is not turned around.

Joe Allen’s BBQ is all right, but I wouldn’t break in to the jailhouse to get it. I’m not a Perry fan but I wouldn’t sweat this crisis, next week they can focus on something really important like his ear hair or fishing pole grip.

I could never vote for a man who made a joke 20 years ago about Carolina barbeque being worse than road kill.

I’m sure in Carolina they have some fine armadillo recipes.

Everybody I know lines up for my Texas brisket and I’m in Memphis. I grew up in NJ. Go figure.
North Carolina has a whole lot more opossums than armadillos. Armadillo is a newcomer to the state.
