"I had to come 1,200 miles to find a governor who believes in a simple principle called the rule of law," Gilchrist said at the Crescent Hotel. "I'm here to encourage all you Texans to stand your ground and get out there and vote for this governor."
Gilchrist later added that "Perry has a clear record of decisive action to secure our borders, stop illegal drug and human trafficking trade and is very clearly the right choice for voters in Texas to fight illegal immigration."
In accepting the endorsement, Perry blasted the federal government's effort to secure that nation's borders.
"Washington's record on border security has been one of indifference, of neglect and failure," Perry said. "That's why Texas has been stepping up with resources to fill the gap left by Washington."
Perry said the state, over the last two legislative sessions, has pumped in over $225 million for border security.
"We're not going to rest in Texas until that border is completely secure," Perry said.

And it’s not just in election year either:
Minuteman founder applauds Texas governor’s border security plan

Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist today said that he “applauded the courageous decision” of Texas Governor Rick Perry to take action to increase security at the Texas-Mexico border.
The Texas governor, who said he is “not going to stand by and allow our citizens to be placed in danger” by the increasing flood of illegal immigrants and violence along the border, announced a plan for border security that includes deployment of teams of state troopers to react to increased incidents of illegal immigration and violence in border areas — as well as for possible deployment of the National Guard in cases of emergency.
Gilchrist probably has a pretty good notion of what Perry is up against.
Gilchrist got smeared too.
Hell, I even voted (this time) for Perry for governor...given the options, not a very tough choice.
But his OPEN BORDERS policies would be very dangerous at the federal level. Heck, even here, it’s rare to go into a store within 20 miles of Houston without most of the people speaking Spanish. We’re paying his price for coddling these people.
Your not alone. Cali, AZ and New Mexico. I think the blame is on the Federal Government though.

Yes and know. Alabama is showing what can happen when you don’t elect an OPEN-BORDERS governor. Arizona tried, but was cut off by the courts. We coddle them here in Texas.
Have you been READING the information, with sources and links at all? Perry has a policy of SECURING THE BORDER. In face of all the evidence, it is at least disingenuous ( to stay diplomatic) for you to claim otherwise.

Sorry, when a guy has been my governor for 10 years, I LOOK AT HIS RECORD.
You’re more than welcome to believe his FLIP FLOPS, if you choose.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Good deal, he can go back home and re run for governor, odds are he would lose.
Thanks Clarity. Jim Gilchrist KNOWS the truth about Perry and the border.
Actions speak louder than words.
His RECORD is protecting the BORDER. The problems that we have is the direct result of the policies of the WH, DOJ and HLS. and you know that.
If you hate Perry for some PERSONAL reason tell us and we’ll not bother you. But Perry supporters are not going to sit by and let misinformation to be spread without challenging it.
I'd call that a pretty good record and show of commitment.
