Romney tells conservative voters that “poisonous language” doesn’t advance their cause

WASHINGTON - Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney told conservative and evangelical voters today that “poisonous language doesn’t advance our cause,” the day after a surrogate for another GOP presidential candidate described Mormonism as a cult.

“It’s never softened a single heart or changed a single mind,” Romney said. “The blessings of faith carry the responsibility of civil and respectful debate.”

Romney’s comments at the Values Voter Summit in Washington were aimed at a conservative radio commentator who immediately followed him on the program, according to a spokeswoman.

But the backdrop was a controversy from the previous day when a Texas pastor, Robert Jeffress, gave an interview in which he said that Mormonism was not a Christian faith and was a cult. He had made similar comments in the 2008 presidential election. As before, the comments immediately caused a stir.

Yesterday’s comments were notable because the pastor delivered the comments shortly after introducing another GOP presidential contender, Texas Governor Rick Perry, raising questions over whether Perry knew that his surrogate was about to attack his competitor’s religion.

Perry told a reporter in Iowa that he did not agree with Jeffress.

Fox had a guy with 3 wives on last night. He has 24 children between them. The women were fine with the family. I wonder why Fox did that.

This kind of hatred is pathetic and weak. I honestly don't understand the hatred on the FR sometimes. It use to be intelligent hard argumentative people.

Recently it has been replaced by a bunch of knuckle dragging hayseeds that never owned a ranch but talk like big bad country cowboys. But you aint; a bunch of you all on this post are a bunch of hateful crybabies.

I do not believe that mormonism is a cult anymore than I believe the mormons are Christian.

I have seen nothing but “poisonous language” used by everyone in the recent debates with the exception of Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain - and that includes most of the moderators!

“..Of course he (Myth) will lose to Ubama, but since their policies are indistinguishable it really doesn’t matter.”

If you really believe that (indistinguishable policies), you are either delusional or overly emotional about your distaste for Romney. He is better than Paul, Johnson, and Huntsman but worse than the rest. But if you would just as soon have Obama the emperor in office as Romney, keep on tok’en.

They pushed him hard in ‘08 as well.

If we want to go back in history, Perry supported and campaigned for AL GORE in 2000!

It is one reason, coupled with his path for legalizing illegals via the Texas educational system that has me supporting Herman Cain.

I thought Rush had put me on to a winner, but I discovered Perry is more of a whiner.

Fox is trying to get “in front” of the story. Herman Cain had best steer clear but be ready to answer when asked.

Are you white? That matters...ask Cain

Cain: Even substantive political debates were passed through the prism of culture and race

Arguing that Social Security needed to be disbanded and replaced with 401(k) plans and Individual Retirement Accounts, Cain made the case that the entitlement program was inherently biased against African Americans.

"If that's going to be a transfer from me to white people," Cain said of his own payments into the Social Security trust fund, "can't I at least give it to white people I like?

gee! how cute!

What if a white person said such?!

They consider Jesus the FIRSTBORN Son of God? Do they cosider Satan the SECONDBORN son of God? I’ve hard they do.
Jesus spoke of “the Comforter” as the Holy Spirit, God in three Personhs, Father Son and Holy Spirit. And Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life.

Joseph Smith proclaimed himself the new Mohammad! He took what he wanted from each religion and came up with his own version. Bcause there are levels of Mormonism, Moarmanismon is a secret society!. You don’t know all of it until you get to be a Temple Mormon

Like Islam, and the Koran, there is the LDS and the Book of Mormon. The two differ only in degree of their converting methods. Polygamy is the route to large families.

Are not Mormons told that when they die they become as gods, and each man is given his own planet to rule? That the number of his children deterkines his power?

Mormon is not Christian. At best it can be called a dult.

And we Chhristians are to pray for those who have strayed, and been misled, that they recognize the one true living God Who loves them.

DOD lists Mormon heavy Utah as the 3rd least likely state for enlistments. Military service is not common among mormons. Not forbidden,, but not a tradition for them either.
I think it is a cultural thing from when they formed their own army and almost went to war with the US Army. Did it nauvoo,, did in utah.
The reasons are long gone,, but they are an odd bunch.

Passed down to father and son.
