Poll: Cain surges, opens up 20-point lead on Romney

In news sure to inject shock and awe into the Republican political primary season, a Zogby poll released Thursday showed Herman Cain leading the Republican field, topping former front-runner Mitt Romney by an astonishing 20 points. Cain would also narrowly edge out Obama in a general election, the poll found, by a 4644 margin.
Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, would lose by a point to the president, 40 percent to 41 percent. Texas governor Rick Perry, who has slipped in the polls of late, would lose to the president 45 percent to 40 percent.
The poll found that 38 percent of Republican primary voters said they would vote for Cain if the primary were held today. Eighteen percent said they would throw their support to Romney, while 12 percent each said they would vote for Perry and Texas congressman Ron Paul. No other candidate attracted double-digit support.

Search the back and forth between Cain and Clinton back in the 90’s. It will give you a pretty clear picture.
“Cain is able.”
Like it!
"Cain is able. Obama is NOT!"
No doubt Cain is surging and I’m glad to see it, but I think the online Zogby poll showing a 20 point lead needs to be taken with a ton of salt. Cain is now in the top three and leading in some polls, but 20 points?
Zogby won’t get me for a third time!
His “poll” is not scientific poll it’s an internet survey and it’s been giving higher support to Cain all along.
In June it had MB ahead with 34% and Cain in second with 15%. It’s had Myth Romney at between 14 and 18% for months.
Don’t flame me, I support Cain and he is rising in all the real polls too but he’s not 20 points ahead, yet.
—In the end I dont see how it matters much. I think the debt load is going to hurl this country back into the dark ages no matter who is president.—
OK, now THAT cracked me up! You and I are on exactly the same page here. I watch this the way most people watch sports. But hopefully they are watching less monday night football. ;->
I had a similar thought to be wary about putting a black guy in just to say we had one, but Cain is too well qualified not to be picked - regardless of race.
And I consider not ever holding elected office to be one of his greatest strengths, in no way a weakness in this cycle.
Obama is only half black.
Cain is 100%, genuine, real-deal African American !
The match up would be interesting.
Ignore them.
And I much prefer Perry over Cain.
Especially as the Perry and Romney clone’s partisans here have only offered that Cain cant get wide no support when called on the socialists they are pandering for.
CAIN versus UNABLE
PINGANATOR!

When Bachmann, Santoro, Perry, etc drop out, most of those votes will go to Herman. No gain without Cain!
Then let’s git’er done!
Have another cup of coffee! ;-)
I shouldn’t have bothered to even post that, no one will care.
Not this one. I'd vote for him mainly because he is outside the Beltway, the same as I felt about Mrs. Palin. I couldn't care less if he was polka-dotted or striped - what he stands for is what counts.
Yup, I believe Sarah will hold her endorsement of Cain until the time is right for the surge to push him over the top :)
This makes O'Reilly look VERY foolish for tossing out the Cain & Paul results in his previous BOR/FOX poll.
