HOUSTON -- Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Thursday that he would definitely consider an invitation to run as the eventual nominees vice president, except if the nominee turns out to be Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Cain, who rocketed to the top tier of the GOP field in several recent polls, was asked by reporters on the campaign trail for his thoughts on a hypothetical invitation to run as the eventual nominees No. 2. After offering the obligatory comment that he intends to be the nominee, Cain said, Quite frankly, based upon Gov. Perrys position on some issues, I would not be comfortable being his vice presidential nominee.
Those issues include Perrys moderate stances on immigration. As governor, Perry supported legislation offering in-state college tuition for the children of illegal immigrants, which has become a flash point in his campaign. Cain said, Issues relative to being soft on the border, issues relative to the whole, you know, tuition for children of illegal aliens. And I havent totally gone through all of his positions, but a lot of positions I have questions with.
Cain, who is black, was critical of Perry after the Washington Post reported Sunday that his family owned a Texas hunting camp once known as Niggerhead, a word that was also painted on a rock near the camps entrance. Perry has maintained that his father painted over the word as soon as he bought the property in the 1980s. And Cain subsequently said he believed Perrys explanation.
Of a vice presidential slot in general, Cain said, I would not say no to being vice president of the United States. But it would depend upon who got the nomination. I will support who gets the nomination. I know I have said that there are some people right now who I cannot support, but I wouldnt say no to it. I could say yes. But it has to be someone who I believe I can complement them in their job by being able to bring my skills to the table.
Utilizing technology, boots on the ground and strategic fencing is the best solution. The fact is resourceful people will simply cut though, climb over or tunnel under a fence that is left unattended.
There’s also treaties involved which could be a major reason for not fencing the entire border.
BUT...
Don’t try to understand ‘em,
Just rope and throw and brand ‘em,
Soon we’ll be living high and wide.
Boy my heart’s calculatin’
My true love will be waitin’, be waiting at the
end of my ride....
And DON’T TELL YOUR HUSBAND we’re throwing “Rawhide” lyrics at each other!!
Unless he’s cool with that.
NOOOOO! ;)
Cain is a great American , no doubt about it. But there are many things in Cain's past, as well has his former leanings and associations that will raise concerns like all the other candidates have gone through.
Cain is like a movie premier that just suddenly opened and is getting talked about by many people. Of course, he nearly quit his campaign twice, just days before the Florida Straw Poll.
Why such an obscure and unscientific poll has been given such credibility is puzzling, but the result was this surge we are seeing this week. Cain's biggest problem is his amateur political background. It will wind up much like it did after the second debate, where he stumbles in his answers and shoots from the hip, making him look unqualified.
Cain has not had a real stellar campaign so far, he is not engaging any crowds or groups and he is very inexperienced in how to run a campaign. I believe this little bump will not last long, since now that Mr. Cain has all the attention and everyone is looking at him closely, he will not know how to handle it.
Perry may benefit most, since he has the opportunity to use his long executive record and experience to outperform Cain in regards to handling difficult government procedures, in which Cain is absolutely clueless.
The thread’s degenerated a bit, eh?
Thanks Chasaway.
A nice diversion.
LOL
Kiss your lovely bride and tell her I said hi.
Perry has LIVED the border! Cain hasn’t.
I lost respect for Cain when he pulled the race card on Perry..
Oh I’ve seen them. I was just posting a reminder of how well the current fencing is working. ;)
wow..THAT would be pretty bad.
‘kay...
fist bump...
He is also still attacking Sarah for her comment about flavor of the week.
What lie?
Fantastic pictures! Thanks!
“Legal and illegal. “
No breakfdown of the numbers?
And yet, our legal new residents number 1000 a day.
CIS has a population control agenda and pushes “sustainability. “ They guessed and estimated their numbers. They aren’t reliable.
“I am uncomfortable with Cain saying things like this. Makes no sense at all.”
Yeah, this really surprises me. I no longer ‘feel comfortable’ donating to his campaign.
Nice try. I happen to have lived five years in Texas - been all over the state, including San Elena Canyon and the Valley ... and my parents have lived in Texas for the last three decades.
I long ago said there was no need to fence the top of San Elena Canyon and the other canyons of Big Bend. However, the flatter areas need fencing - as SW Arizona shows, the desert is no barrier in and of itself.
But go ahead - keep indulging in strawman arguments against a fence. Meanwhile, Perry keeps sinking in the polls because he refuses to take this matter seriously. Voters have seen the virtual fence fail. Drones by themselves would be no different. Technology and boots make a fence more effective but cannot replace it.
Until Perry shows he can pivot to a national, not a state view on illegal immigration and border security, he will keep floundering. I know you will blame everyone but Perry as you keep trying to come up with new ways to spin this. But the problem is of his creation and no amount of spin will change that. Only Perry coming around will.
Perry may benefit most, since he has the opportunity to use his long executive record and experience to outperform Cain in regards to handling difficult government procedures, in which Cain is absolutely clueless.
Well he should be able to do that in future debates.....oh wait, nevermind.
