HOUSTON -- Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Thursday that he would definitely consider an invitation to run as the eventual nominee’s vice president, except if the nominee turns out to be Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Cain, who rocketed to the top tier of the GOP field in several recent polls, was asked by reporters on the campaign trail for his thoughts on a hypothetical invitation to run as the eventual nominee’s No. 2. After offering the obligatory comment that he intends to be the nominee, Cain said, “Quite frankly, based upon Gov. Perry’s position on some issues, I would not be comfortable being his vice presidential nominee.”
Those issues include Perry’s moderate stances on immigration. As governor, Perry supported legislation offering in-state college tuition for the children of illegal immigrants, which has become a flash point in his campaign. Cain said, “Issues relative to being soft on the border, issues relative to the whole, you know, tuition for children of illegal aliens. And I haven’t totally gone through all of his positions, but a lot of positions I have questions with.”
Cain, who is black, was critical of Perry after the Washington Post reported Sunday that his family owned a Texas hunting camp once known as “Niggerhead,” a word that was also painted on a rock near the camp’s entrance. Perry has maintained that his father painted over the word as soon as he bought the property in the 1980s. And Cain subsequently said he believed Perry’s explanation.
Of a vice presidential slot in general, Cain said, “I would not say no to being vice president of the United States. But it would depend upon who got the nomination. I will support who gets the nomination. I know I have said that there are some people right now who I cannot support, but I wouldn’t say no to it. I could say yes. But it has to be someone who I believe I can complement them in their job by being able to bring my skills to the table.”

Newt needs to write books, give speeches, and attack from the sidelines. I'd love to have him in the stands, but not on the playing field.
Perry wants legal immigration and a sealed border. He is against amnesty.

Perry supported Giuliani’s national security and economic bona fides. Giuliani’s record as a prosecutor evidenced he was not a push over. Giuliani also said he would pick strong constitutional conservatives as Supreme Court picks.

Have the folks who are screaming about the fence seen how the Rio Grande River travels along the US-Mexican borders? The river runs almost across the entire borders of Texas and Mexico and it is shared by both the US and Mexico. There is no way we can build a wall on this river without a significant impact on the use of the river by the US or by Mexico. Only technical and human monitoring of illegal aliens would work on the borders between the US and Mexico along the Rio Grande River.
People can simple search the internet for Rio Grande River and Texas-Mexcio borders to see that simple fact I mentioned above.
Did you go to Israel and study their fence?
Rick Perry has several times.
Israel’s barrier cannot be built on the entire southern border of the US. Howeve it does work and since Perry is the one that actually did the studying and not you, then a strategist placing of an Israel style fence could work .
You know of course better than those who are dealing with this problem every day of their life and looking for real solutions.
Texas also supported the AZ law.

Good points, all, and who can forget the picture? None the less, he was formidable during the last ‘revolution’ and we’re critically overdue for another. Perhaps his being in the stands is good enough.

At the end, and before it is too late, Conservatives must decide if giving in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants, or building the impossible fence across the Texas-Mexico borders (due to the Rio Grande River) is more important to them as an issue than the super liberal record of Mitt Romney. If they do then they can have Romney and possibly Cain as Romney VP because as it is very obvious that Cain is working as an attack dog for Romney against Perry hoping that Romney would pick him as his VP.
