Perry's haul for the long haul
Politico ^ | 10/5/11 | Maggie Haberman

Posted on 10/05/2011 9:07:44 PM PDT by DRey

What Perry’s fundraising shows, his backers argue, is that he’s the only conservative candidate in the race with the resources to compete against Mitt Romney over the long haul. In other words, he can spend his way out of his current predicament.

And while Perry has likely lost his chance to run away with the Republican presidential nomination, his eye-opening cash haul — collected in just 49 days — suggests he may yet be able to wrest it from Romney in an expensive, bruising nomination fight that drags on into spring.

“He is going to have the resources to run a comprehensive and lengthy campaign,” said Mississippi Republican National Committeeman Henry Barbour, a Perry supporter. “It’s clear that he would have raised more than $17 million if not for the loss of momentum that happened in Florida, which makes the $17 million more impressive.”

(snip)

If the Perry team is correct and Romney has already disqualified himself with too many GOP primary voters, there’s only one other candidate in the race who looks capable of cobbling together the right set of votes to claim the nomination.

“We’re 90 days out from the first ballot being cast and I don’t know whether Romney can seal the deal,” said Jeff Ballabon, an influential GOP fundraiser supporting Perry. “But $17 million in seven weeks from 20,000 in 50 states just said loud and clear that Perry can.”

The choice is Romney or Perry

Perry goes down further with each passing day and each new poll. Romney is stuck where he always has been. Both of them looked like clowns in the debates. The more people see Perry, and learn of his background, the less they like him.

Cain, on the other hand, goes up with each passing day and each poll. He looked great in the debates and the more people see of him and learn of his background, the more they like him. It's inevitable, Perry is done and Cain will be running against Romney, the RINO, establishment candidate. You can choose which one you want to support.

Also, Cain will get a substantial boost from Palins announcement and he'll get another when Bachmann drops out. Romney, of course, will pick up some of Perry's supporters, but so far most of them seem to be going to Cain.

Cain has the conservative and Tea Party voters, Perry and Romney are splitting the "political class" vote. The numbers don't add up for either one. As of now, it looks like Cain vs. Obama

Be sure and let Jim Robinson know you’d vote Romney over Perry.

Perry has the globalist playbook. Obama seems to be freelancing.

We want our Republican candidate, I hope, to be against Agenda 21 and all that, not for it.

I know that expensive military actions are still all the rage, so many Republicans have ruled Ron Paul out. He did just raise $8 Million. And he did just call for Obama’s impeachment for killing an American.

Spoken like a Palinista living in the clouds or...something. For the rest of those on planet Earth, yes, Perry stunk it up in the last debate. It was awful. Had you actually read the article for this thread, you would see why that is less and less important. People are “voting” with their pocketbooks. That’s the best measure at the moment. It’s tangible.

I’d take Romney over Perry.

What a choice!

Romney = 2012 Gulianni

Perry = 2012 Huckabee

So just because he's got some money we should vote for Perry? Sounds pretty Obamaesque to me. Spending his way out of the current predicament is a very Obama-like approach.

Mosquitos? Whose payroll are you on?

"I hear the plan now among Perry's backers will be to offer every Republican primary voter a free illegal Mexican gardener to vote for Rick."

I don't care who you are, now that is funny! And I tend to support Gov. Perry, in the main.

"He called for Obama's impeachment for killing an American."

Ron Paul is a nutjob. Killing that so-called "American" is the first thing he's done in office I actually approved of. Perry's illegals are more American than that lunatic.

Perry is bought and paid for ... always has been ... always will be.

His biggest donor has been Bob Perry (no relation), Texas largest homebuilder. Perry established the Texas Residential Construction Commission. The main purpose of TRCC was to place roadblocks in the way of taking homebuilders to court for defects. A senior VP for Bob Perry Homebuilders helped write the regulations and later was appointed a TRCC member.

The commission finally ceased to exist through a sunset law in 2009. In most places Perry would be called corrupt and dishonest. In Texas, he's just a “good ol’ boy.”

Sure, if that makes you feel better. In reality it is just more Perry pay to play, one of the reasons that the more conservatives know about him, the less they like him.

Another one living in an alternate political universe, I see, where a candidate's ability to raise money "should" mean nothing so is DOESN'T mean anything. Wow.

It's Capitalism in action on the political front, baby. People are voting with their pocketbooks and Perry is outdrawing them all. He'll be our next president. Waaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

I will vote in the primary for whomever appears to be the most conservative candidate who can win in the general (Buckley’s rule). In the general, I’ll vote for whomever the GOP candidate is, holding my nose if necessary. If polls leading up to election day show the GOP candidate winning (or losing) by a wide margin in my state, I’ll write in Sarah Palin.

And I will scorn all blandishments by GOP organs for campaign donations; what meager resources I have left after three years of our Obamanation will go to worthy conservative candidates. The GOP has proven itself to be worthless.
