If McCain had won, team discussed dumping Palin (Top McCain '08 adviser Charlie Black: Not true)
Washington Times ^ | Wednesday October 5, 2011 | Bryon York

Posted on 10/05/2011 1:40:22 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

"The idea of a mentally ill vice president who suffers in complete isolation was obviously sparked by the behaviors I witnessed by Sarah Palin," Wallace tells Time. "What if somebody who was ill-equipped for the office were to ascend to the presidency or vice presidency? What would they do? How long would it take for people to figure it out? I became consumed by this question."

It's not surprising that Wallace would choose a public forum to portray Palin in such a negative light. Wallace's name was near the center of post-campaign speculation about unhappiness with Palin within the McCain team. But now, Wallace has added a new and striking element to the story: She says the McCain team discussed the question of whether, if McCain had won the 2008 election, it would have been "appropriate" for Palin to actually take office.

[...]

UPDATE: I just spoke with Charlie Black, who was McCain's top campaign adviser in the 2008 race. "I never heard any such discussions," Black told me. "There were no discussions like that with McCain, or I think I would have known about them. That doesn't mean some subset of the senior staff might have talked to each other about it."

The ONLY reason why I voted for McSlime was because of Sarah Palin, otherwise I would have stayed home, I live in Cali, this state would have voted for Obama no matter what came out of his trap, but I went to the polls because of Sarah Palin..the McCain campaign was the most poorly run, bunch of incompetent phonies I have ever seen. I wouldnt be surprised if McCain voted for Obama, you don’t have to be a fly on the wall in that voting booth to see that. Sarah busted her ass for that poor excuse of a campaign, just to get screwed over at the end. Let’s see, she is mentally ill and what is Joe Biden..a genius LOL..dude doesn’t even know who Van Jones is

Implying Palin is mentally ill is so despicable I think McCain is morally obligated to discredit her.

Your kidding, right? Hell, I truly fear McCain will do everything he can to undermine Sarah should she run. I make this prediction -- he will NOT endorse her against the One.

The Obama Presidency provides the answer to that question. Palin would make a great President.

Would have made a lot more sense to figure out a way to dump McCain.

If McCain had won it’s obvious that it would have been in large measure due to Palin’s influence. McCain’s people failed in epic fashion handling her wonderful story, ergo they must spend a good measure of the rest of their lives ducking and covering. Palin did what she was told for the most part, and that is why her message was lost. The few times she tried to break out she connected wonderfully. This time it’s her ballgame, and I suspect she won’t be afraid to throw fastballs up around Obama’s chin.

Wallace's husband also has some Romney connections.

Yes, there was a lot of information that came out after the 08 debacle connecting NW with Romney.

If I truly expressed what I feel about NW, I would ban myself. She is evil personified. That woman is another reason I only watch Fox when Sarah is one.

There are a lot of negative things about Palin, from the perspective of the crony capitalists and the permanent political class.

Nicole Wallace is a lying slut and the only time McCain raced ahead, was after he named Sarah Palin and she delived her smashing speech!

Had he not F’d up by going against the House Republicans and suspending HIS camapaign, he would have owed his win to Governor Sarah Palin.

Wallace set up Sarah with Couric and Couric and CBS did the editing of 9 HOURS worht of a fabulous interview to make Palin look the worst as they possibly could.

SARAH PREVAILS!

WITH OUR HELP AND GOD CONTINUED BLESSING AND HELP, SARAH PALIN WILL BE #45!!!

RUN SARAH RUN!

ANNOUNCE SARAH ANNOUNCE!

WE ARE WITH HER AND WE’RE BRING THE TEA PARTY!

YOU BETCHA!!!

I was so disgusted with the idea of McLame being President for four, or maybe eight years, that I didn’t even vote in 2008. Am I happy with Obama, no. But RINOs are not a choice, they are merely brake pressure. The vehicle is STILL rolling downhill.

Wallace is nothing more than another idiot suffering from PDS. I see little difference between Wallace and the PDS folks that haunt FR, other than she gets paid for it.

I look forward to the sounds, the frantic sounds of the PDS afflicted bugs, choking on their own spit when Palin makes her formal announcement.

Palin is coming and she is going to turn this game inside out..... and go on to becoming the next “real” President of the United States.

Not only that but three or four people that were with Sarah’s part of the campaign in 2008- have worked for SarahPac since. I think at least a couple of them still do like Jason Recher ( who also worked for Bush WH) You think that they went to work for her if she was unstable?

from Byron York: http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/if-mccain-had-won-team-discussed-dumping-palin

UPDATE 2: Wallace herself has not responded to email and phone messages for comment. But Lisa Sciambra, a publicist at Wallace’s publishing house, Atria Books, did respond. Sciambra says she passed on my questions to Wallace, who declined to answer. So Sciambra wrote: “The article makes clear that her real life in politics inspired many aspects of [previous book] Eighteen Acres and It’s Classified, which she hopes you’ll read for yourself and enjoy. As she said in the Time interview, she sought to infuse her characters with the concern she felt as she watched Sarah Palin go through extreme highs and lows on the campaign trail. That concern influenced decisions such as the one to remove Palin from the campaign trail for debate prep, but as she states in her interview with Time, she didn’t set out to build a case against Palin in either of her novels.”

I asked Sciambra again to please pass on a few questions to Wallace: “a) what specific concerns led whoever was in the discussions to conclude that it might not be appropriate for a vice president-elect to be sworn in, and b) whether there were any discussions about how that might actually be done, given the constitutional problems involved. Was there a contingency plan?”

Sciambra answered: “No further comment other than what was passed along.”

comment from Marie Culbreth “I just looked up the book at amazon.com. On the copyright page there is a statement which says,

“This book is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places, and incidents either are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictionally. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.”

Note the last sentence. This admission by Nicolle Wallace shows it was NOT coincidental. She just put herself and the publisher up for legal action. Revealing that Nicolle Wallace is the stupid one. Mentally ill? That is TBD.”

Its crap like this that really makes me sick. I get the hated for her from the left, I get it, they are leftists, they are supposed to hate her, if they loved her I’d worry LOL..but the hate she gets from the right and for what..can someone out there explain to me what the hell Sarah Palin has done that is SO evil that she deserves this kind of hated from her OWN party..its unreal, the one thing about leftists is that as awful as Biden has been and he is just TERRIBLE, they don’t go on TV and bash him, you notice that..Biden goes on some radio show not knowing who the hell Van Jones is and the liberals say NOTHING..meanwhile the GOP elitist jerks are trying to destroy a wonderful woman who has done nothing but try to help the GOP win

Wallace et al took an excellent rookie prospect and blew it, and they know it. Palin was (is) blasted because she has a history of deconstructing the establishment that scares elitists to the core. As long as she draws breath they will have sleepless nights. Don’t think for a second that Nicole isn’t well-aware that in places high above her which feed her manna from heaven fear of Palin is palpable. The day after she wins the general election the back-pedaling, back-stabbing, and back-tracking will be epic. Typical RINO quote in 2013: “I loved her from the beginning.”
