We “Do Not Consider Perry a Factor… We Know Who it is Who Will be Our Nominee”
Race 4 2012 ^ | October 4, 2011 | Matt Coulter

Posted on 10/05/2011 1:03:21 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christie’s announcement. The “we” is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set — and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:

“I think tomorrow, we’ll be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney… And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasn’t there at the outset. He’s less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now… the time has come to get behind him… Tomorrow I’ll be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, it’ll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.”

Fellow bundler and sideline-sitter John Catsimatidis added, “I’m going to go with Mitt Romney. I don’t think Perry has it in him to do it. He’s a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.”

Ouch.

In related news, Romney also scored another major fundraiser from the Draft Christie movement: Ken Langone. Langone is the founder of Home Depot and is described as a “titan” in the political money scene. He backed Rudy Giuliani in 2008, helping Giuliani out raise the other candidates. There is evidence that a great deal of the money that had sat on the sidelines so far in this race will now fall into Romney’s coffers.

Rick Perry, for his part, got the endorsement of another Draft Christie member: Gary Kirke, a west Iowa investor and casino owner who had also been sitting on the sidelines until this afternoon.

“I don’t see Romney as a change.”

oh it will be a big change. If he is the standard bearer of the GOP, the GOP will no longer be considered a social conservative party with grassroots support from religious people. The message will be: Forget about abortion and traditional marriage because Obama is worse.

The next debate will tell the tale and remember, just because Perry stunk up the debate doesn't mean he isn't great at retail, get into the crowds and kiss babies politics, which I believe Mitt is not so good.

My brother supports Mitt and he was mouthing Perry's debate performance last night but the fact Perry is anywhere in double digits tells me his retail side is very likable.

He needs to be training in the mountains somewhere like Rocky 4. Just him and Paulie and his trainer.

That same backstabbing might lead to an Obama re-election if they’re not careful.

Please define ‘stalk’ for the class. Now holding someone’s feet to the fire is ‘stalking?’ Good luck with that.

If at some point you discover a way to turn back time and change Gore’s NOVA PBS performance and Perry later denying Gore’s earlier than Perry-stated radicalism, call me.

Romney isn’t that much different than McCain, or Dole, or Ford, or a lot of others, it seems to me.

Palin needed to be in the race months ago, when one of the prime goals of candidates was to increase name recognition.

LOL!!!!!!! Are you serious?

The WORLD knows the name GOV SARAH PALIN! And the commie rats and rinos tremble at her name! Say "Sarah" and everyone knows.

“But I believe Gov. Rick Perry is a better choice and why I’ve been doggedly vetting him here on FR.”

Petting the dog is not "doggedly vetting" the candidate.

Wife, you are in the tank for perry, and it's OK, that is your choice; but don't try selling that "petting the dog" trick on us.

It's not going to happen. Because put another way, what you are saying is that the focus should be on economic/fiscal issues, and other stuff (social issues) should be set aside until we sort it out.

That's what Mitch Daniels was advocating. That's what a Christie candidacy would represent. And look at how it is received. It's blasphemy to suggest it.

The Tea Party, it seems to me, is the all-or-nothing party. And since we're not going to get it all, look at what that leaves us.

Well now Georgette. I guess my vote doesn't count. What are we gonna do? Go 3rd party?

That's the plan.

Romney beats Cain and offers him pretty shiny things in his admin for his support in the general. Maybe even the VP.

So let us stop it.

She says crap like that and her supporters on this thread get miffed when someone calls her on it.

Pretty telling.

Perry's numbers represent the same thing the overtures towards Christie represent--an extremely tepid sentiment towards Romney. And it isn't just the base (who has no use for him at all.) It's the "establishment" as well.

They see the flaws. They want a talented, qualified leader who can sell and win. So they look for anyone who can replace Romney, who if he wins, will do so by default.

The Tea Party has failed to put a credible candidate up, and their idealized vision of purity is so unrealistic, everyone is a RINO now. Meanwhile, the establishment wants to win.

So they turn to Perry. So far, so bad. He's still got a chance, but only because it's such slim pickins.

I’m not “pushing Romney” I am 100% for Cain and will be to the end which, hopefully, is his Inaguration. Your reading comprehension skills are pathetic.

But I will vote for and support WHOMEVER is our nominee. Even a ham sandwich.

I refuse to support Zero in any way. And refusing to vote for his opponent in a fit of Conservative pique will pave Zero’s way back to the White House with no fear of running for re-election. Is that what we want? If Conservatives refuse to vote doesn’t that open the door for Democrats at all levels?

Even if we take the Senate and get a larger majority in the House Zero doesn’t care about the legislative process. He will regulate the hell out of us for the following four years and complete his plan of destruction of America.

Sorry I don’t believe that Romney, or anyone else, will do that.

NO!

It's a little late for training when you're already in the ring. Gov Palin's doing just what you suggest, though...
