The new Washington Post/ABC News poll confirms what the Florida straw poll showed last month: Rick Perry is bleeding support from activist conservatives.
In the national survey, Perrys share of the GOP primary vote has fallen to 16 percent a tie with Herman Cain and 9 points behind Mitt Romney, who draws support from a quarter of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents. Continue Reading
Ron Paul is in fourth place, with 11 percent, followed by Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich tied at 7 percent. Rick Santorum takes 2 percent and Jon Huntsman takes half that.
The apparent explanation for Perrys decline is what you would expect: immigration and debates. Dan Balz and Jon Cohen:
Perrys support for the Texas policy of providing in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants appears to be a significant problem in the GOP race. About two-thirds of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they are less likely to vote for a candidate who backs such a policy. Among tea party supporters, nearly eight in 10 say this position is a negative factor.
In early September, Perry had a 3-to-1 advantage over any other candidate among those strongly backing the tea party, but his supported has plummeted from 45 percent to 10 percent in this group.

Go home Rick, you are NOT ready for prime time.

Tell me about your candidate and why I should back them. Obviously Perry is toast. Who is your candidate. It would be nice to see the Perry trashers on FR support their candidate and give us a reason to vote for them. What is your candidates platform on the border?

Perry is the reason that Romney is now virtually inevitable. He isn’t Fred Thompson but he DOES play him on TV.
Ugh.

MNJohnnie, these are normy's comments in this thread:
Governor of a state of 25 million with a 1200 mile international border and 40% of the job creation in the country over the last two years is prime time.
Oh wait, pandering, saying what you would do without ever having to have done it, and coming up with snarky comments is what substitutes for prime time now a days.
We'll see when the quarterly donations are announced who is ready for prime time.
By the way there is a great new article in the Houston Chronicle on how Perry defended the Confederate flag on state grounds when the NAACP tried to have them removed. Perry as Lt.Governor said we should never forget our history.
Join in with the left and the Romney folks in trashing that too.
Great! Tell me about your candidates plan to secure the border and deport the 12 million illegals and build the 2000 mile fence.
So exactly which one of these comments is "hysteric bile laced personal attacks" just like the Progressive left engages in?

It won't be enough to overcome his La Raza problem however.
I'll never forget Romney's trashing of the Confederate battle flag during the YouTube debate in the primary four years ago. I would NOT vote for Romney or Perry under any circumstance.
I would also NOT vote for ANY GOP ticket that includes Marco Rubio on the ticket.
MARCO RUBIO IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.

OH S**T! So, it's come down to this; the candidate who has prostituted himself, during 22 years of being a professional politician, and has a little black book with the names of all his "political Johns" that keep coming back to be serviced, is the one for the job. GOD HELP US!!!

No, YOU tell me your candidates position on the border and illegal immigration. ..what is Ron Paul's position?
I'd like to see Texas with an Arizona or Alabama bill that allows the state to do the Fed's job.
Perry is toast, huh? ...who told you that, the MSM?

I don't know about anyone else, but I was really enthused when Perry got into the race. Rush had spoken so highly of him and I just thought, WOW now we have just the guy.
Then his performance on the first debate was dull.
The next debates were even worse. I hated getting off point with both him and Romney seeing who could mud wrestle the best.
Then the heartless labeling of Americans who are against tax payers supporting illegal’s education.
Once I found out he supported and campaigned for Al Gore that was the point of no return for me to the Perry Camp.

I am a Perry supporter. Check my post. Maybe I overreacted to your illegal immigrant comment. Lot's of bombs going off.
The gist is that everyone is trashing Perry without giving an honest assessment of who their candidate is why they are better. It isn't happening.

Care to illuminate those in the dark as to which Republican candidate *IS* strong on immigration?
It is the burning question that is determining support for the Presidential nomination.

Why are you telling me to use my brains? No one polled me. I was all for Perry til I found out how he panders to muslims. I am now hoping Cain is the nominee. Sarah apparently isn’t running so I’ve given up on her. Christie is just another northeast RINO and I’m not interested. He’s fine for NJ but not America. I hope Cain can keep his momentum going.
