"The Book of Mormon" debuted this year as a Broadway hit that won nine Tonys, and the 2012 race for the Republican presidential nomination features not one, but two candidates of the Mormon faith.
Now the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is launching a major expansion of its "I'm a Mormon" advertising campaign, which, church officials say, seeks to educate the public and dispel myths about one of the fastest-growing religions in the world.
Beginning this week, a dozen U.S. cities in seven states will be targeted by the Salt Lake City-based church with ads on television, city buses and billboards inviting visitors to the church's website to learn about its beliefs and followers.
Users who log onto mormon.org can see profiles of Mormons from various walks of life, chat with church members and learn about Mormon practices, such as the prohibition against consuming alcohol, coffee and tea.
"Many people are not familiar with our faith, and that can sometimes lead to misconceptions," said David Evans, an elder who oversees the church's global network of 52,000 missionaries. "The best way to understand Mormons is to meet them and get to know them personally. These ads are an invitation to do that."
The church, boasting a membership of 14 million worldwide, including 6 million U.S. followers, has gained new attention in the American mainstream this year from Broadway to the White House campaign trail.
Public opinion polls in recent years have shown large blocs of Americans hold an unfavorable view of the religion, whose image problems are partly rooted in the faith's historical connection with polygamy.
An early tenant of the Mormon faith, plural marriage was renounced by the church more than a century ago, although it is still practiced by members of some breakaway sects.
That legacy has

OK, if you're talking thisside of heaven, then that sounds like a threat of a Mormon political theocracy in control. If you're talking the other side of death, hey, what's to worry? (Per Mormonism, we all initially go to the same spirit world, anyway. And then we can always accept the Mormon "gospel" after that, right? We wouldn't be "outside" of "glory" looking in, right?)
Such is the case with Mormonism's near universalism in its so-called "gospel."
It is sad but soon you all of you anti LDS will be on the outside looking in....

Just a reminder those who have received a witness of the True Church of Jesus Chris by the power of Holy Ghost and then renounce their testimony will be held accountable of blasphemy again the Holy Ghost.
(1) I NEVER rec'd any "witness" about the Mormon church EVER being the "true church"
(2) The Holy Ghost's key role, aside from being an Advocate/Counselor for God's people, is to both convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgment (John 16) as well as testify to Jesus, not to the Mormon church!
26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Fatherthe Spirit of truth who goes out from the Fatherhe will testify about me. (John 15:26)
This is where most Mormon testimonies go wrong. They constantly are testifying about a mere man (JS, Jr.) and a mere organization (Lds, Inc.). Jesus Christ gets short shrift.
Now the Spirit DOES testify about God's people -- but it's a reminder to His adopted children that we are indeed adopted...NOT born to Him in a "pre-existence": The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children. (Rom. 8:16)
Resty, the identity thief robbers will be shut out:
Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. (John 10:7-9)
Marion Romney (LDS First Presidency) was such a robber -- someone who tried to substitute a church organization for Jesus Christ as "The Way": Marion Romney, the cousin of Mitt's father, said, "This Church is the ensign on the mountain spoken of by the Old Testament prophets. It is the way, the truth, and the life" (Conference Report, April, 1961, pg. 119).
Utter Mormon blasphemy! No, there is NO substitute for Christ! Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
Jesus Christ brought forth this book, the Book of Mormon.
I assume you are referring to the mormonic Jesus, who was a created spirit-being, who came to earth for an earth suit and whose sweating in the Garden brought atonement for future gods who do all they can do????
Aside from the cultic nature of your post, it is nice to see you again, Resty!
“It is sad but soon you all of you anti LDS will be on the outside looking in....”
Right you are! We have no part in the cultic temples, that exclude all non-mormons.
As Christians, we’re OK with that. Enjoy your worldly buildings (that look like the
reception area of a Marriott, for some reason...)
We ARE the temple.
“Joseph Smith was an honorable servant of the Lord as well as Brigham Young....”
OK, then. Let’s review.
Joe Smith, who scammed his neighbors by pretending to see buried treasure.
Joe Smith, who plagiarized the Bible, while claiming he translated it.
Joe Smith, who ordered the destruction of personal property.
Joe Smith, horndog, who went after other mens’ wives.
Joe Smith, who couldn’t keep his wedding vows.
Joe Smith, jailbird, who fired at a crowd and ended up getting killed.
Bring ‘em Young, who was an even greater horndog than Ol’ Joe???
Oh, yes, honorable servants of their lord of darkness...
It’s a must read for anybody.
Your own words betray you! Why do you call us "anti LDS"; not "anti Christ" if you are truly in Christ, and Christian? If you are a true follower of Jesus, how is it that your first instinct is to defend your church; not your purported LORD? You decry that we have laid facts against the John Smith, and against his Book of Mormon — answer them, then. Bring the blazing torch of the Truth of YHVH to testify against our observations and illuminate our errors.
Ah, but herein lies another fact: you cannot, for you have no such light.
...you antis made your choice to kick the Lords True Church
And there you go again; more concerned about the status of your church than your LORD.
What's been kicking the Mormon church is FACTS; all I, and others, did was point out a few of them. Furthermore, you've had SQUAT to say in response. The capital "T" Truth is beating you like a read-headed stepchild, and you respond just like a leftist liberal: dodge and spin.
I've got excellent news for you, though: It's the LORD. Almighty YHVH is a blazing fire on a mission to remove all that hinders love for Him, and you're in His Holy Ghost bomb sights. There's coming a Third Great Awakening that will put the prior two to utter shame for scale and power, and the LDS church is gonna bust wide open in Holy Ghost fire in spite of themselves.
You'd best start planning, now, to put a cross up on top of your building; when the revelation of the Real Jesus hits your hearts, you won't be able to get it up there fast enough.

Bingo! For too many Mormons, it's all about man's organization -- and not about the Lord.

Double Bingo! For Lds, church this and church that!

Mormons substitute church for Jesus; and a ghost named Moroni for the cross!
Here's something I bet you don't want everyone to know...
If you are a young LDS man who is contemplating serving a mission I can only advise you to follow the example set by the Brethren. Not ONE of the members of the First Presidency (of the mormon church) served the standard full-time mission as a young man. Second Counselor Dieter F. Uchtdorf didn't, First Counselor Henry B. Eyring didn't, and President Thomas S. Monson, Prophet, Seer and Revelator didn't. Follow their example and get an education instead. See how well it worked out for them?
To all Mormons engaging in debate here. This is a perfect example of why it serves absolutely no purpose to debate these people. They have so much hatred for the LDS faith that they will engage in tactics that are downright shameful.
These are the same people that decry Mitt and his sons serving a mission instead of joining the military, then flip it and decry Tomas S. Monson for joining the Navy instead of serving a mission, and ignore the fact he was a Mission President at age 27.
Similarly, P. Ering served 2 years in the Air Force stationed in Albuquerque and P. Uchtdorf joined the W. German Air Force in his late teens as well.
Further, the Church didn't have a policy of every worthy young man serving a mission until the mid 60’s.
PLEASE... Don't bother engaging with those people and their tactics. Let your light shine as an alternative. To quote Shakespeare... Truth will out...
When I watch evangelist preachers on TV they say all you have to do is confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and VOILA you are saved . . . . unless you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I wish I had a dollar for every time I have been condemned to hell on this site. I’d be rich. I’m used to it, though.
For the record: Jesus Christ is my Savior; the Plan of Salvation was put in place by Heavenly Father to save the whole human race from our sins; and the Holy Ghost seals this in my heart. Amen.
Waiting for the anti Mormons to now tell me for the umpteenth time that my Jesus Christ is not the same as their Jesus Christ, that their Jesus Christ did not die for ME but only for THEM. I do not engage the anti Mormons anymore; it’s futile; their hearts and minds are closed.
thank you for your post for what it will be worth; it meant a lot to me. But now you are on their “list” so watch out.
Good one. You think Glenn Beck is stupid. Good one. He may be a lot of things but stupid is certainly not one of them.
There you go again condemning me to hell and saying stuff you made up in your mind about my Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You said that I do not believe that Jesus Christ is the living Son of God. that is not true. Jesus Christ is my Savior and I love Him. The Plan of Salvation is Heavenly Father’s Plan and the Holy Ghost is my witness.
Luckily you are not my judge; my Judge is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, my Savior Jesus the Christ. Amen.
Joseph Smith did not write the Book of Mormon; he translated it from ancient writings.
You remind me of the guy who read parts of the Bible and went around saying it is a silly work of fiction and only idiots would buy into it. Nothing but a crutch for simple-minded people to lean on. A bunch of morons.
Blah blah blah
They says the same stuff about The Book of Mormon and members of my Church. We’re used to it. It only serves to strengthen our testimonies in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in our Church. Amen.
I agree with you about not engaging the anti’s but sometimes I just can’t help myself; their claims are so hurtful and outrageous. I have backed out several times, saying I won’t play their heinous games. I do not wish to engage the ones we know who have shown their true colors time and time again; but sometimes I think the newbies are just ignorant like I used to be.
When the Jehovah’s Witnesses show up at my door I tell them that I love Jehovah and thank them for coming. Why would any decent person be mean to them?
One of the sister missionaries from my Ward told about when she was in Germany and an evil person dumped a bucket of water on her. These kind of things only serve to strengthen our testimonies and resolve to love our Savior more and serve Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength.
