Cain Says He Should Have Spoken Up For Gay Soldier
Associated Press ^ | October 2, 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Sunday that he should not have stayed silent after the audience at a GOP debate booed a gay soldier serving in Iraq.

The Georgia businessman told ABC's "This Week" that it would have been "appropriate" for him to have defended the soldier. None of the candidates on stage at the Sept. 22 forum responded to the boos.

"In retrospect, because of the controversy it has created and because of the different interpretations that it could have had, yes, that probably — that would have been appropriate," Cain said, when asked if he should have asked the audience to respect the soldier.

Cain said it wasn't immediately clear to him what had drawn the audience's scorn, adding, "I happen to think that maybe they were booing the whole 'don't ask, don't tell' repeal more so than booing that soldier."

The so-called don't ask, don't tell policy barring gays from serving openly in the military was officially lifted last month.

Pandering to the left will cause you to lose potential support very quickly.

Weren’t these folks from the Fred Phelps group? My understanding is that they identify themselves as Democrats. They take any opportunity that they can get to take center stage, whether it is a soldier’s funeral or a presidential debate.

It's becoming clearer everyday that Cain's endorsement of Romney was no fluke.

I'm done with Cain...and disappointed.

NPR is spinning his answer.

Cain said we shouldn’t assume the audience was booing the soldier instead of booing the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Not ready for prime time.

Who wasn't?

None of the candidates on stage at the Sept. 22 forum responded to the boos.

Would you support faggotry? Would you defend it?

So what seems to be the problem here with candidates not endorsing butsecks?

The article says he was in Iraq. Cain has a bad habit of retracting statements that dance to the MSM’s tune.

Don't fall for liberal traps.

Exactly. Doubtful anyone was booing the soldier or his service, but the media thinks it's time to create a "wedge" issue between Cain and Conservatives - get them in another circular firing squad.

Pass.

I don’t see how
“I happen to think that maybe they were booing the whole ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ repeal more so than booing that soldier.”
is considered pandering.

First he plays the Race Card, now the Gay Card.

As the first poster said, not ready for prime time.

When the mainstream media asks gotcha questions like that in attempt to make conservatives look bad, the appropriate response is to dismiss it entirely or turn it back on the press for making a big deal over nothing.

Cain suddenly seems compelled to treat these liberal media attacks as if they actually had merit. Just pathetic. The guy is just imploding.

Cain that will be your one biggest mistake. Christians do not support the gay issues.

He is hardly imploding. Let’s have a couple of primaries before making that pronouncement.

Cain is making the FATAL error of starting to respond to EVERYTHING because his popularity has risen.
