In the last five presidential elections, the Democratic presidential nominee averaged 79 percent of the Jewish vote. However, if the recent election in New York’s Ninth Congressional District is a bellwether, those numbers could change.
This caught the attention of HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher. On his Friday program, Maher lamented the GOP gains and blamed the shift on Republicans’ belief in the Bible.
“And people might say, ‘Why are you talking about it?’” Maher said. “First of all, I’m talking about it because 42 percent of Republicans think the Bible is literally true. A fourth of them think the Antichrist might be Obama. And this stuff does infect politics. I think it infects that discussion they've been having lately about Israel. Somehow the Republicans stole the Jews.”

OK, so the love affair that the majority of Jews around the world seem to have with socialism is not due to the Talmud. Got it.
So what DO you see as the reason why so many Jews are pro-socialist?
His mother was/is. But he was brought up Catholic. At least until his family stopped going because of disagreements over birth control.

Bill Maher is (or was) Roman Catholic. Alter boy and everything. He was raised completely unaware of his distant Jewish ancestry (I believe his mother’s father was Jewish -— which does not make one a Jew.)

Oh I agree with you completely. I try to be empathetic when I view this issue, trying to view it through others's eyes. I think the primary reason why African Americans vote for Democrats is because they believe that the people who hate blacks are Republicans. It has little to do with facts at this point. Some of it is rooted in the GOP's "southern strategy" from the 1960's, but that was 2 generations ago. Why do they stay? It's not so much because they think Republicans are racists, but because they think the racists - no matter how few - are Republicans. They don't want to join the party or vote for the party because that would be like joining a party that accepts racists.
Now you can take the inverse of that and apply it to Jews. Or not yet, but soon. Most of the virulent anti-semites are on the left. The Israel haters are on the left. The left coddles the Islamists who preach not just anti-Jewish propaganda but literally that they want to kill Jews, and the moderate left doesn't reproach them. At some point the Jews, like the Blacks, will decide they don't want to be in a political party that along with the people who want to kill them and worse covers up anti-semitism, pretends it isn't there, and couches it in logical fallacies like "if only Israel would do this or that then people wouldn't hate the Jews so much" or "it is only natural that if Israel does X,Y and Z that people will come to hate Jews".
How many "Hymietowns" do my Jewish brothers and sisters have to hear before they leave that party of the damned? A lot, apparently, but leave they will. They will have had enough of the Jesse "Hymietown" Jacksons, Cynthia "I lost because of Jews" McKinneys, Al "Diamond Merchant" Sharptons, James "the Jews sent our country to war in Iraq" Morans, Ernest "Bush went to war for the Jews" Hollings... and now you see even in the decidedly leftist protest in New York City antisemitism about Jewish bankers beginning to creep into the marchers' repertoire.
Bill Maher suffers from selective memory, or, he thinks because the Jews put up with all that, they will put up with more. At some point they will leave that party in droves.

Not exactly. His mother was Jewish, father an Irish Catholic. I believe he was raised as a Roman Catholic as a youngster, but what turned off by all religion. Right now he's anti-religion across the board (except perhaps Islam), so he's a leftist Democrat.
There is much ignorance among American Jews (and others) about Franklin D. Roosevelt's antisemitism and that of his family (especially his mother and half-brother). It did reflect on his Administration's policies, most notoriously its policies toward aiding Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and, later, from Nazi-occupied Europe. Still, foolish left-leaning American Jews adore him as an historical icon, often based upon myths passed down through the generations.
As I pointed out here before on other threads, Roosevelt was instrumental in creating the admissions quota system at Harvard, his alma mater, which discriminated against Jews. He was also known to make disparaging remarks about Jews from time to time to his only Jewish cabinet member, Henry Morgenthau. (Morgenthau was apparently Roosevelt's kind of Jew, a wealthy assimilated patrician type of German ancestry who was from Roosevelt's neck of the woods in upstate New York.)
There is a revealing discussion about Roosevelt's antisemitism in Lindbergh vs. Roosevelt, by James P. Duffy, published by Regnery last year. Duffy contrasts Roosevelt's real antisemitism to what he considers to be unjustified accusations of antisemitism against Roosevelt's rival Charles Lindbergh.

The African Americans, ~90%, as Cain and your buddy Buchanan claim are 'brainwashed'. By whom? A rational person might say by the likes of Jackson, Sharpton and Jeremiah.
Iirr, one of your boroughs in NYC voted ~100% for senator Hillary. Explain that. Not too many independent minds involved there.
On the otherhand (Fiddler), the whites, orientals' vote oscillates around the 50% mark. Now, that's what I would call a hell of a lot of independent thinkers.
