Rick Perry and the Republican Bind on Immigration
ABC News ^ | Sept. 28, 2011 | Devin Dwyer

Posted on 10/01/2011 8:16:04 AM PDT by Clairity

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been a battletested advocate for immigration enforcement for more than a decade in one of America's most conservative states.

By many measures, Perry's approach to immigration ought to please the party faithful. In his decade-long term as governor, he cracked down on so-called sanctuary cities, imposed tough restrictions on drivers' licenses for immigrants, and sent armed Texas Rangers to the border while demanding more federal boots on the ground. He opposes a federal DREAM Act and a swift path to legalization for illegal immigrants.

"Of all the Republican candidates he's the one who stands out the most on wanting to deal with this issue and put it to bed and resolve the problems," said Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minutemen Project, a Tea Party-aligned activist group that monitors activity along the U.S.-Mexico border.

All true but so many people here are married to their misconceptions and nursing hurt feelings. It’s sad because unless Palin gets in, we’ll be stuck with a second rate candidate.

Perry can send all the “armed” Texas Rangers to the border he wants, but until that border is fenced it will never be under
control and Perry KNOWS that!

Which is EXACTLY why he and his big GOP $$$$ donors are dead set against a fence.

They KNOW a fence would dramatically slow down the flow of cheap illegal labor because it’s a tremendous “force multiplier” when backed up with effective manpower.

If the Federal Government started to build the fence tomorrow, I bet Perry would sue to have it stopped.

“Perry has pushed the most anti-Hispanic agenda in a generation in Texas,” said San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. ...”

San Antonio is jaut a colony of Mexico. Anything that is not a direct path to reconquista will be “unacceptable” to Mayor Castro and his fellow travelers at La Raza and LULAC.

Is it the place of a new border state governor to talk or policing the border when his predecessor was just elected to the Presidency after campaigning on securing the border?

Perry's acknowledging the reality of Texas a major trade port of entry.

I get the sense more than a few would rather cut all ties with Mexico, create a demilitarized zone like that between North Korea and South and act like it isn't there, that it's not a major trading partner in goods and oil.

We haven't had a trade surplus with Mexico since 1994, the first year of NAFTA. Those imports have to come in somewhere, and for a governor of Texas, it might as well be through Texas.

“a colony of Mexico”

Having lived and worked in SA for over 30 years before I was able to escape back to the country, it has been my observation that the downtown area and the near west/southwest areas of the city-where most illegals lurk-are the only areas really infected with Los Angeles Reconquista disease, and that has been the case for as long as I can remember. That area has a lot of monumentally ignorant and despicable LEGAL Hispanic employers who exploit illegals from Mexico in bottom-wage jobs-they howl “racism” because they don’t want their slaves taken off the plantation and sent home.

And what in hell does La Raza-The Race-have to do with anything? “Hispanic” describes an ethnic group that includes several races-it is not a race in itself.

As it stands now, our immigration law - by default - is this: If you can get to the U.S. and get a job and keep
yourself pretty invisible... WELCOME!! you csan stay.

Oh.. - by the way - .. it doesn’t matter if you stole a SS# to use. We allow that too.

So.... there are many poor people all over the world that would love to come to the U.S. to work and live. If I told
people in Africa to just get to Texas and get a job and you can stay.... They will come by the ship load.

Now here’s the deal....If 200K Africans started coming to Texas every year and taking low wage jobs away from the
illegal Mexicans, La Raza and LULAC would be screaming for it to be ended.

La Raza and LULAC are the most breathtakingly hypocritical and racist “ethnic” organizations that exist today.

And Rick Perry panders to them every chance he gets.

Being against a 1200 mile fence across a no man’s land landscape but on privately owned land, is not the same as being anti fence.

Being pro fence in an urban landscape and for military and technical assets in concert with Border Patrol and a greatly enlarged force at that, is Perry’s announced policy.

His approach has been endorsed by Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minutemen, above the approach of any other Republican candidate. And Gilchrist’s goal, beyond voting GOP, is to oust Obama and Reid to compliment Pelosi’s ouster.

(Herman Cain has said he would not even vote for Perry in the general election against Obama. Bless his heart, Cain actually endorsed Romney last time around. Where does that put Cain now, today?)

Jim Gilchrist’s own words on Perry:

There’s more to be found in Perry quotes; such as: Perry: “I am not for amnesty”. (Found by Googling)

The man who introduced Perry in New Hampshire in last night’s town hall, swore to the people of NH that Perry will not support granting amnesty, period, now or later. I heard him. There’s a link to the meeting on this thread, I believe, and it was shown live on CSpan.

Also on this thread, I believe, a link to Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist’s supporting Perry as the superior candidate on Border Security policy, out of all the candidates.

Do you know who you are going to support?

I understand Cain is saying he will not even vote for Rick Perry against Obama.

Red Flag alert:

Gilchrist supports Perry on Border issues, Cain won’t bother to vote against Obama if Perry is nominee (because of Border issues)

However, he would vote for Mitt Romney, no problem, and had endorsed Romney in 2008.

PERRY "RESURRECTION TEAM" PRESS RELEASE "Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been a battle-tested advocate for immigration enforcement for more than a decade in one of America's most conservative states. Mmmmmmm........the media reported that verbatim from the press release put out by "The Perry Resurrection Team."

Any Perry comments from hereonin are self-serving----designed to fool the voters and advance Perry's unbridled lust for presidential power. With vote-crazed politicians like Perry----it's not what they say that counts----it's what they do.

Nowhere in his 2001 speech at a "border summit" with Mexico did Perry talk of policing the border----he talked benignly of the "shared" border.

Perry's "border summit" speech. LINK http://governor.state.tx.us/news/speech/10688/

PERRY'S BORDER SUMMIT SPEECH---EXCERPT "Seventy percent of all US-Mexico truck traffic goes to, or through, the Lone Star state. Fifteen of our twenty-seven border crossings with Mexico are located in Texas. Fifty-four percent of all U.S.-Mexico trade crosses just between Brownsville and Laredo. This year the Texas legislature appropriated approximately $1 billion more in transportation funding. But more can be done.

"With Texas serving as the Gateway to Mexico, it is time that we receive congressional funding that reflects the instrumental role our state plays as a port of entry. With a Texan (GWB) in the White House, I believe there is no greater opportunity to end the funding discrimination that crippled Texas infrastructure under the previous administration. Good infrastructure is essential to the free flow of commerce."

CIRCA 2001 BORDER SUMMIT--PERRY W/ MEXICO'S THEN-PRES VICENTE FOX

Pres Fox thanks Gov Perry for giving illegal migrant workers access to Texas universities via in-state tuition. At that time----at a "border summit"---- Perry also advanced a “bi-national health insurance” program that would cover both US and Mexican residents along the border....including the savage Zeta gangs setting up drug cartels in Dallas. Perry praised a “unified,” trans-national health care program. and was ready, willing and eager to pour US dollars into illegals violating US borders.....including the savage Zetas setting up its drug cartel in Dallas, and those on the border organizing against the US.

==============================================

God only knows what this Mexico suckup would do if he had presidential power.

Perry needs to come out and make a 'read my lips' public vow that HE as POTUS would not approve/sign of any law that grants any path to citizenship to anyone living here illegally. I would find that believable since it would come with political risk.

We cant afford another 2007 disaster,

What major city do you live in-sounds like it might be Houston.

Most of the work I do is in construction-or at least it was before Obama f***ed up the economy-now, I’m lucky to have any work, anytime. The general contractors I work for don’t hire illegals, nor do they give work to any sub that does, period. If all the contractors and food service establishments got periodically raided and fined for every illegal they had working, the work pool of illegals would shrink.

Back in the late 80’s, and early 90’s, periodic raids of construction sites by “La Migra” and the resulting fines worked just great in spite of Carter and even Reagan being too sympathetic to ILLEGAL aliens. The worst offenders are the restaurant owners who harbor and employ mojados and literally keep them on rental properties in barely liveable conditions. Most of them belong to La Raza, et al and support uncontrolled illegal immigration so they can keep their slave labor-their motives are anything but “humanitarian”, as they claim. I have less use for those people than I do for the illegals they harbor.

All good ideas. We could also start to use the Anti-Racketeering “RICO” laws. They have been used extensively against drug syndicates and organized crime. The penalties under RICO laws allow seizure of assets that were gained from racketeering profits.

I consider profiting from the use of illegal alien labor to be a clear example of organized crime. If the CEO’s of these big restaurant chains though they might lose their ski lodge or lake house, they will get rid of Jose
REAL FAST!.

It would also be fun to see some of the “HR” mid-managers locked up too, because those basterds know EXACTLY that the I-9’s and SS# that these illegals are working under are fraudulent or stolen.

Don't waste your time on this thread, it's written by a moron.

This Devin Dwyer who wrote this tripe doesn't even know that 'battletested' is not a word. It's two words: 'battle tested'. Or even a hyphenated 'battle-tested' would fly. But 'battletested'?

Sorry Devin -- FAIL!
Now go stand in the corner until the class ends.

A candidate is really desperate when he’s appealing to the MSM for validation. McCain sought and got the validation of the MSM. How’d that work out? The base stayed home, and the Kenyan commie won the election.

This same article quotes “Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a rising GOP star,”:

“Texas is one of 13 states to support in-state tuition rates for immigrant residents, a policy backed nearly unanimously by the state’s Republicans. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a rising GOP star, says he thinks it’s a “fair policy.””

No borders Jeb Bush, that “rising GOP star”, thinks it’s a good idea. I know I’ve heard all I ever want to hear from those “compassionate conservative” Bushes.

I think I’ll stick to letting the patriot side of the immigration movement vet Rick Perry, thank you very much.

NumbersUSA gives Perry a D minus. It’s not a surprise.

“By the way Jim Gilchrist has been called every rotten name in the book for his founding of the Minutemen.”

Oh, it’s for something other than that. It’s because he has been implicated in selling his “support”:

“In May 2010, Poltico reported that Howie Morgan, the Minuteman Project’s political director, may have solicited donations from political campaigns in exchange for Gilchrist’s endorsement. Rick Perry, Parker Griffith and Tim Bridgewater were all recipients of Gilchrist’s endorsements in 2010. Mo Brooks, an Alabama politician running against Griffith, said that Morgan indicated Gilchrist would endorse Brooks if Morgan was hired.”
