Exodus follows ruling upholding state's tough law cracking down on illegal immigration

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration.

Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments — from small towns to large urban districts — reported a sudden exodus of children of Hispanic parents, some of whom told officials they planned to leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students' immigration status.

Proof that even Alabama is a cream-puff State: “ - - - Local and state officials are pleading with immigrant families to keep their children enrolled. The law does not ban anyone from school, they say, and neither students nor parents will be arrested for trying to get an education. - - - “

The cheapest way to strengthen our 2,000 mile Southern Border with Mexico is to strengthen our Illegal Alien laws in all 50 States.

Much ado about nothing.
The article itself says nothing will happen to these family’s.

They are just compiling statistics.

“Hispanic students vanish from Alabama schools...”

Romney will find a home for them in his liberal voter base. Some FReepers here will help.

Why don't they go home and build a paradise there instead of trashing ours up.
Not saying they all throw trash around but since the 70s my state of California went from spotless to trashy all over the roads.
If you go to Mexico it is the same thing.
Go towards Canada and as you get farther away from the illegals you again IMO get cleaner roads.
Just saying...

Only the Feds have the power to detain and/or deport.

Sorry you missed my attempt at subtrifuge.

Great, just what we need here in Texas, more illegals! We’re flooded enough already, thanks to Rick Perry’s “welcome mat.” I’ve had family here in TX since 1918, and it sickens me to see it go the way of California, but this is clearly what is happening.

My hat is off to Alabama, a state whose leaders obviously seem to care about the welfare of its citizens.

Please, please, please, pretty please... DO THIS IN GEORGIA! Illegal Mexicans, Columbians, Nicaraguans, where ever the hell you are from....go the hell home! Leave my country!

Local school teachers and administrators will howl because their bloated staff will need to be reduced, their bloated transporation system will need to be reduced, Federal assistance dollars will be reduced....Hey, that’s a good thing. If the teachers and administrators don’t like it I hear McDonalds is looking for people.

If we can get them all to go back home through Texas, it’s easier to corral them and make them go. Keep the pressure up!

afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

Oh, like keeping them out of class WON'T throw up a red flag.

"Yes officer, this is a list of the missing children."

IDIOTS!

After reading the entire article, I see nothing that shows anybody is doing anything to deport these kids or stop their schooling.

All I see are a bunch of knuckleheads making money in a legal circle jerk.

I can’t remember for sure but I probably did. My stick buddy and I hit every steakhouse in the area at one time or another while we were there.

The state has distributed to schools sample letters that can be sent to parents of new students informing them of the law's requirements for either citizenship documents or sworn statements by parents... "Rest assured," the letter states, "that it will not be a problem if you are unable or unwilling to provide either of the documents."

So, what's the incentive of the parents to come forward?
