Christie seriously considering presidential bid after GOP prodding (The Big Tease again)
NYPost ^ | Thursday September 29, 2011 | JOSH MARGOLIN

After months of hedging, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is giving serious thought to jumping into the ring for a GOP presidential run -- and could make his decision next week, The Post has learned.

The announcement may come as soon as Monday, said sources familiar with Christie’s thinking.

The renewed consideration about a White House run came after prodding this week from some Republicans he idolizes, including former First Lady Nancy Reagan, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and former President George W. Bush, sources said.

[..]

Christie pals said the pol’s “mind-blowing” experience at the Reagan library in California Tuesday changed his thinking.

“We need you. Your country needs you to run for president,” one woman pleaded after Christie’s moving speech there.

Yet when the governor first arrived at the Reagan library, he was still telling his inner circle he was a definite “no” for a presidential run -- and planned to make that clear in his appearance.

Something changed that night, sources said.

All I proven is that I mean what I've said countless times on this forum.

I will not vote for any candidate with a history of supporting unconstitutional gun laws.

>> I didn't think so. You must have only listened to Rush yesterday.

You're wrong. I watched it live. Christie spoke from the center positioning himself for reelection.

Since the context of my comment is important, here it is in its entirety:

With all the emphasis on compromise given the Left’s militant march to Socialism, the style of the speech is irrelevant.

That fat assed gun grabbing POS needs to stay right where he is. If he were to win the nomination, I will in no way vote for him, period.

The election isn't tomorrow.

My philosophy is to keep them guessing, that way no one takes me for granted.

All you're gonna get from me at this point is who I WILL NOT SUPPORT.

So far that includes Romney and Christie.

PLEASE DON’T RUN! We don’t need you in this race. You are no different than Romney or Perry except FATTER! You are better than the last governor we had here, which isn’t saying much, so stay in NJ until a real conservative shows up.

It is feel good in the sense that everything will be fine if a Republican is elected but no explanation of what that Republican will actually do in terms of specific policy. What will he do in the Middle East, will he keep troops in Afghanistan, will he put tariffs on China or fight for free trade, will he cut spending and, if so, where and by how much, will he keep or step the war on drugs, will there will be more humanitarian intereventions in Syria, etc.. will he abolish the Department of Education of Energy and Education (or keep them)? Will he preserve Social Security as is or will he move toward some privatization? Would he close Gitmo or would he expand it? He gives nary a clue. How is that tough love? A tough speech would lay on the line on at least some details.

It definitely wasn't a feel good speech, as I have already proven. That's why the title of the speech was "Real American Exceptionalism." He was making the point that we currently are not exceptional.

As for specifics, it wasn't a policy speech. It was a speech on leadership. He did identify a set of principles and priorities that make perfect sense to me. It's all in the speech.

We aren’t exceptional now? That’s hardly news to anyone. It was well delivered standard Republican boiler plate. No Republican candidate (including Ron Paul and Rick Santorum!) would disagree with it. Why? Becuase it is long on generalized feel-good rhetoric and short on specifics. He took absolutely no chances with this speech and played itvery, very safe and did nothign that would turn off a single member of his audience. It looks like it was written by a focus group.

If you have no problem accepting New Jersey’s gun laws you’re a RINO, there is no way around it.

There are a lot of laws, state and federal, that I don’t agree with. I just can’t seem to find that magic wand anywhere. Now where did I leave that thing?

You can't improve things by supporting the damned fools who ignore the Constitution.

I don't care if there is only one citizen in New Jersey who wants to exercise his 2nd amendment rights, the 2nd amendment isn't a matter of popular opinion and everyone else in the state can go pound sand!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Christie’s pandering, inoffensive, and cautious “tough love” speech.
