At the FReeper Canteen!

C'mon and take a break ! Walk on over to the water cooler and lets chat. Post your thoughts, opinions, news of the day, rantings, ravings, pontificates, hypothesis, hyperboles, your soap box cause, your mantra, your baggage, your garbage, your blogging, your secrets, whatever you feel would make talk around the water cooler real interesting!

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and veterans and their families,
and is family friendly.

We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party. We turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard.

We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house. As we walked out the door, the cat we had put out in the yard, scoots back into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to eat the bird.

My wife goes on out to the taxi, while I went back inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, with me in hot pursuit. Waiting in the cab, my wife doesn't want the driver to know that the house will be empty for the night. So, she explains to the taxi driver that I will be out soon, 'He's just going upstairs to say Good-bye to my mother.'

A few minutes later, I get into the cab. 'Sorry I took so long,' I said, as we drove away. 'That stupid b*tch was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her ass with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her fat a$$ downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!'

The cab driver hit a parked car.

VFW Celebrates 112 Years of Service to Veterans

A message from VFW Commander-in-Chief Richard DeNoyer

September 28, 2011

On the 29th of September each year, we celebrate the creation of one of America’s most iconic organizations — the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The VFW has a long and proud history of serving and protecting America’s veterans, service members and their families, as well as being stalwart defenders of the U.S. Constitution and of a strong national defense. Now, more than any time in our history, a strong VFW is instrumental in keeping our military and our nation strong.

Through every war and conflict in the 20th and 21st centuries, the VFW has led the way to promote strong military and veterans’ legislation. As in the past, today, the VFW advocates and supports those deployed to operations in locations around the world while still maintaining vigilance and representation for multiple generations of veterans and for thousands of service members stateside.

VFW and its Auxiliary members are making a remarkable difference at a critical time in our country’s history. Our accomplishments are significant and many, from helping to create the Department of Veterans Affairs, the World War II GI Bill, and Agent Orange and Gulf War Syndrome legislation, to leading the way on traumatic injury disability insurance and a new 21st Century GI Bill.

The VFW has recorded 112 years of unwavering commitment and extraordinary service to our nation. It’s an amazing record we are justifiably proud to lay claim to. Our distinguished history of service will always serve as inspiration and as a guide for the future as weremain always steadfast in doing all that we can to improve the quality of life for today’s service members, veterans and their families.

God bless our troops and our veterans, and God bless America.

Signed,

Richard DeNoyer

VFW Commander-in-Chief

The Story Of A Wall
September 29, 2011 While visiting the ruins of Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England, I reflected on the fact that this may be the most remembered achievement of the Roman emperor who came to power in ad 117. As many as 18,000 Roman soldiers manned this 80-mile-long barrier, built to keep the northern barbarians from invading the south.

Hadrian is remembered for building a physical wall to keep people out. In contrast, Jesus Christ is remembered for tearing down a spiritual wall to let people in.

When the early church experienced tension between believers of Jewish and non-Jewish birth, Paul told them that, through Christ, they stood equally in the family of God. “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation . . . so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace . . . . For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father” (Eph. 2:14-15,18).

One of the most beautiful aspects of the Christian faith is the unity among those who follow Jesus. Through His death on the cross, Christ has removed the barriers that so often separate people and has drawn us together in true friendship and love.

God’s people have so much to do
In serving Christ today
That they should use their precious time
To share, to love, to pray. —Branon

Christian unity begins at the cross.

Read: Ephesians 2:11-22

He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation. —Ephesians 2:14
Bible in a year:
Isaiah 7-8; Ephesians 2

Hubby ia active duty USMC. He has been in 17 years, and just submitted his final re-enlistment package. I’m blessed to have him home at the moment. I’m not sure if you have ever shopped at a military commissary on payday, but it’s terrifying lol.

Still waiting for the results of my heart scan from Monday. Saw the orthopedist Monday afternoon - ruptured tendon between quadriceps and kneecap - will go in for repair Oct 12. Expect to be in hospital overnight - possibly two nights. Afterwards, I will be in a knee brace for several weeks and continuing to use walker. Dr. expects I will require several months of PT.

Had a total body bone scan this morning - still waiting for results. Seeing another orthopedist next Monday - specialist in spinal problems.

Will update further when I have more information.

My scuttlebutt comment for the day.

Happy 10th Birthday to my son Brennan. For his 10th Birthday on Friday, he is getting his first rifle. A 22LR Cricket Youth Rifle.

I am so excited to introduce to him the world of shooting, responsible gun ownership, and the importance of the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment.

Hi Gang..
I am under the weather and will not be here long tonight..
I would ask a favor of you, please.
Would you please pray for MainelyDawns Mom?
She has had emergency heart surgery, and is in critical condition in the Cardiac Care Unit.

Docs are very worried that Dawns Moms heart is not very strong.
When they went in to repair a valve, they found another valve damaged, and also a hole in her heart.

Dawn is exhausted and frightened, and she could use your prayers, too.
Thank you!
Me
