1. 9.1 percent. Today's unemployment rate is the highest it has been since 1982.

2. 131.2 million. The total number of jobs held by Americans in August. In January 2000, total nonfarm employment stood at 130.8 million. That means that over the past decade or so, less than 400,000 jobs have been added overall. At the same time, the eligible work-age population (those older than age 16, who are not in the military or prison) has grown by 28 million.

This looks like a backhanded way of absolving Hussein for the mess. The way I'm seeing it is like this, lets say from 2000 to 2011 the economy added 1.0 mill jobs. In the period of 2008 to 2011 we lost 600,000 jobs. Would it be safe to say that, "over the last decade or so only 400,000 jobs were added."?

IMHO this statement is simply a way of putting at least some of the blame on Bush, while absolving Zer0 of much of the blame. Am I reading too much into this?

Considering the source of the story - no.

7. 16.7 percent. The unemployment crisis has affected races differently. This is the unemployment rate for blacks. Compare that with 11.3 percent for Hispanics and 8 percent for whites.

8. 25.4 percent. Young people have also been hard-hit. About a quarter of teenagers are unemployed. In comparison, the unemployment rate for adult men is 8 percent, and for adult women, it's 8.9 percent.

Sure love to see these two groups broken down according to level of education, not just ethnicity and age .... bet that would paint an interesting picture of root causes.

No. I’ll never forgive my sister for signing me up for a years’ worth of the razor thin US Snooze. She told me this was the best source of news next to NPR. I told her she was now a member of Rush 24/7. Heh, heh...

28 Million new workers and only 400,000 jobs? No way this ends well.

And yet we keep chugging away bringing in 125,000 new legal workers each month.

Am I reading this correctly? We need 200-300,000 jobs a MONTH...and only 400,000 have been created in the past DECADE?

We needed 3 MILLION jobs and have gotten 400,000?

Yikes. I can’t believe that riots & looting haven’t been on-going. Good thing we’re an amazingly wealthy country...and the UC and welfare checks keep coming!

And the average duration of unemployment is 40 months? Good gawd.

I’m going to kiss my ‘White Evil Capitalist Christian Employer’ square on the lips next time I see him!

Not that I am for them but if it wasn't for 99 week unemployment payments and EBT cards there would be.

“That means that over the past decade or so, less than 400,000 jobs have been added overall.”

I don’t believe that for a second.

This looks like another attempt to push our present joblessness off of Obama and onto Bush.

I believe the stat.

In 2.5 years the Baraqqi Depression wiped out nearly a decade of previous growth.

The unbelievable part is that this is printed in the MSM.

.
Should we have expected more if most of our jobs are going overseas?

Isn’t it about time to have a liberal TV talk show or news host to snub their nose, laugh and arrogantly proclaim how government creates jobs?

I agree. I have two able-bodied men within my extended family that have been on UC FOR TWO YEARS! I’ve offered them both seasonal jobs at my Garden Center, but those jobs were too ‘menial’ for them...and they’d make more on UC!

Somehow, schlepping trees for a living isn’t too ‘menial’ for me. *Rolleyes*

Jack@sses. Useless Feeders, LOL!
