Herman Cain did well in last weeks GOP debate and won a decisive straw poll victory in Florida, but his numbers in a general election match-up against President Obama are little changed.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds that Obama earns 39% support while Cain attracts 34%. In that match-up, 14% prefer some other candidate, and 14% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
A month ago, the president led Cain by seven percentage points. In March Obama held an 18 point advantage over the businessman and talk show host.
Data released earlier today shows that voters nationwide are evenly divided as to whether or not Cain is qualified to be president 30% say yes, 33% no, and 37% are not sure. Republicans, by a 49% to 17% margin believe he is qualified while most Democrats disagree. Among Republicans, Cains numbers on this question are similar to Rick Perrys but not as strong as Mitt Romneys.

What they really mean is that they view only those who who conform to their ideology as "qualified." Experience, temperament, honesty, "the contents of one's character," are irrelevant.
This bias is strikingly ironic when it leads them to accuse conservatives of a different kind of bias. If you oppose Obama, it's because he is black, but if you support Cain, it does not disprove you are "racist."
That’s Racist!
Oh, wait... *SMIRK*
I think you may be right. He is certainly the stand out amongst the ones running now.
“Obummers failure to crack 40% is the big story here”
First thing I noticed.
It’s gonna get really ugly, Herman Cain scares them.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Pray for Herman Cain to win. We’ve never passed this way heretofore. We’ve never seen anyone like him become president but God can do it.
I’ve been a fan since the 2004 Senatorial primary here in GA. We wound up with Isakson, who has been better than expected, but still not that great. We missed a real opportunity then.
Somebody posted this to me just last weak. I should ask what he/she thinks now

Herman Cain. I dont think 0 can beat any of the Rs, not even Ron Paul. I think were making a mistake by rallying around Hecanwin.
Cain would be slaughtered.
Rasmussen as well as ALL the other pollsters have an agenda, just keep that in mind.
Why would Ras and the rest of the pollster want to push...first Bachmann, then Trump, then Perry and now Cain?
I know why, it`s very obvious
Cain has a significant health history, with stage IV colon and liver cancer a few years ago. It doesn’t bother me, unfortunately much will be made of it on the campaign trail.
What do we know about Obama’s medical status and history?
Clever how Rasmussen controlled the straw vote in Florida.
The straw poll in Florida meant as much as the straw poll in Iowa or any of the straw polls that Ron Paul won over the years.
980 people voted for Cain, means very little. If the press had not reported on the results, it would have even meant less.
I would love a retired greyhound, but hubby is highly allergic to dogs. :(
I would love to see another Reagan vs. Mondale. Doubt it will happen, because CA is now solidly blue, but I would love to see it.
Rasmussen’s analysis is biased against Cain...blah blah...little changed....
No crap, nobody knows who he is, only about half the population. He does as well as anybody vs. Obama, considering that fact.
Cain has staying power.
“I would love to see another Reagan vs. Mondale. Doubt it will happen, because CA is now solidly blue, but I would love to see it.”
Obama is so bad, worse than Carter...if unemployment stays around 8.6 or above, Landslide is coming to town...outside of California and about 5-6 other states...everything will be in play.
Either of them would beat Obama like a drum. It is hard to nominate a Republican who wouldn’t. The guy’s support has collapsed down to the Left lunatics. That is it.
agreed...
He’d be such a 180 on BO... Cain is truly an intelligent man, and has hard science degrees to boot. Nobody would be able to attack him for being “stupid” - which they like to do with all republicans. Plus he knows about jobs and business.
...you’d really have thought a man like him would’ve been the first black president, not like the guy currently “playing the part” of president - with no clue at all.
