New York Times ^ | 9/26/11 | Robert Pear

Posted on 09/26/2011 3:13:51 PM PDT by Nachum

President Obama has not been particularly successful in fostering the creation of jobs. But he thinks he has found a way to pry open doors in the workplace for many of the unemployed, especially those who have been out of work for a long time. Mr. Obama’s jobs bill would prohibit employers from discriminating against job applicants because they are unemployed.

Gee - wouldn’t it be nice if employers could hire whoever they wanted to? And how would you prove discrimination anyway?

Another payoff to the lawyers who will make money with bogus suits.

I am certain that the ambulance chasers would devise some creative ways to prove discrimination against the unemployed. With some stacked juries and Marxist judges, this area of practice would prove to be lucrative at least for the lawyers.

I was going to ask if this is a common occurrence? I was also going to ask why is WH doing this. then read this ..... Republicans and some employers criticized the White House proposal. They said that discrimination was not common and that the proposed remedy could expose employers to a barrage of lawsuits. Once again a attack on private businesses.

Typical lib/leftie looks-good-on-paper type feel-good-ism.

But it would be next to impossible to enforce.

More regulations . . . just what the business world needs.

Is this guy that much of a total idiot? Can he see what he’s doing? What a jerk?

He’s going to tell our American companies how to hire unemployed workers . . . not that they’re good workers . . . otherwise they would’ve been hired already . . . but specially protected unemployed workers.

We don't need another protected group, we all need protection from more regulation.
What we really need is an economic climate that makes it lucrative for companies big and small to hire more people.
I don't mean gov't handout or phony tax credits for hiring, or punitive measures for not hiring.
A job is created when an employer believes he can make more money if he expands his workforce.
It's so simple.

You all sound like the fortunate ones who are actually employed. More power to ya.

However 1 in 5 Americans is unemployed.

Many employers are outright advertising “unemployed need not apply.”

What are we supposed to do with the 20% who need jobs but run up against this shameful policy?

I’m not saying government’s the answer. But many of us can’t compete with blanket policies that eliminate us from consideration from jobs we’re well qualified for.

Many have also NEVER applied for those unemployment benefits, just fell through the cracks. Maybe they should just die.

I don't think you quite grasp what this piece of legislation would do. It would actually punish employers who want to hire the unemployed. So, you who are out of a job would actually find it harder to get one because of this policy (if implemented).

Many employers are outright advertising “unemployed need not apply.”

Why do you think the employers are now advertising for only "employed" workers? It is because of the Obama legislation! If a person is unemployed more than 6 months, employers are fined for hiring them. Insane, but true.

Not doubting, just want to know where to find this info in order to ammo, should I need to use this in a discussion with a lib.

Where does one find it?

Go to youtube and Peter Schiff lays it out for the committee during the hearing last week. He calls it insane.
