“Why aren’t any conservative news organizations popping up to finish off these dying bird cage liners?”

FR isn’t a “conservative news organization”?

;-)

Uh, uh, uh, uh, it, it, it, it (paying tribute to a recent utterance by the mental giant Braaack Hussein Obama) isn’t a newspaper that gets delivered to your doorstep daily.

I mean, uh, uh, in order to access FR you have to turn on your computer and, uh, uh, type stuff.

Our local paper has continued to decline in quality. They used to have some pretty fair reporters (especially the guy who covered the University), but their either left or were layed off. They replaced them with kids right out of college, who were no doubt cheaper. While they try, they still can’t write an engaging (or sometimes even coherent) story. Past the front page, a lot of the paper is AP feeds and (yes) the editorials are very liberal.

As of now, we only get the Sunday edition.

I find it interesting that even this article in quoting PEW's research fails to ask the most important question of all...the "why" of the matter.

Although many people get news online, the websites of newspapers and TV stations "do not score highly as a relied-upon information source on any topics."

Note the area in quotes...even though we're going online to get information...the websites of newspapers are not 'relied-upon information sources.'

That tells me if they went out of business in print and online...very few people would even notice. The information they are providing is garbage and most readers know it.

I even view the title of the article as an insult. We fail to appreciate the paper? How elitist can you get with that title?

I get the Sunday paper once in a while, mostly for the funnies, crossword puzzles, & coupons. We do have a few small weeklies which have such as local sports, farm shows, spelling bees, church socials, etc.

This is why LOCAL papers will most likely not die off. There is enough LOCAL interest which the "internet" and social bookmark sites can not cover sufficiently. Yes, the reporters are liberal, papers are AP infused, editorials suck, and the writing is atrocious, but where else are you going to get LOCAL events and news all in one publication?

I don't think you will see a demise of LOCAL papers no matter how liberal slanted anytime soon.

My daughter at one point worked at our local weekly paper as a high-school intern. Most of what she did was reformat press releases. That’s one thing that Leftist organizations have figured out: newspapers like pre-written stuff that they can just copy/paste into their paper, rather than paying a staff reporter to do original work.

In short, newspapers have become victims of the de-massificiation of the media Alvin Toffler warned about in The Third Wave.

Once access to the public Internet became widely available (especially after the release of Windows 95, which included a built-in point-to-point protocol (PPP) stack to make Internet access really easy to do), the writing was on the wall: people could now get news just as fast as the mass media companies are getting. And with today's "smart" cellphones, people get even get the news on little devices that even science-fiction authors couldn't have imagined 20 years ago.

Americans fail to appreciate local papers

The media and delivery of said media has changed dramatically and the newspaper format is incapable of changing to compete with instantaneous delivery. In addition, the cost to purchase the format can't compete with accessing free news forums or direct news sites competing for web hits against their sites.

Finally, this media killed any "appreciation" by embracing, wholesale, the liberal agenda years ago to the point where people wouldn't even look at them any more.

Once there was viable competition with superior methods, it was only a matter of time until they began to die out.

Deservedly so, the liberal b@tches...

Good point. Actually the paper is a good lesson in hypocrasy. The editors howl about deforestation, but yet make their product from trees. They howl about economic injustice while at the same time actually charging for their product. Speak socialist, act capitalist. They endorse marxist candidates, then bemoan the state of the economy. The papers openly campaign for a marxist kenyan who is working to destroy the Constitution that protects the media and gurantees their very existence.

Guess the folks in the media couldn’t find real jobs. No one would hire someone that thickheaded and ignorant.

The local paper where I grew up was always terrible, it is the Rock Hill Herald. This past weekend I was up visiting my grandmother and a copy was on the table.

One of the front page articles caught my eye. It was about state retirees and lawmaker’s retirement. One aspect of the article was this ex ETV guy who did nothing for nearly 30 years, got paid for it, retired and is upset about it all being unfair. I was around there for a decade so I do know of what I speak. When Nikki kills that waste of money off, that state of SC will be better off.

I canceled my subscription to my local newspaper years ago. I totally disagreed with their editorial position. Plus, I disagreed with the liberal slant they gave every article.

My bottom line: Why voluntarily pay for something that I disagreed with? I have to pay for enough things that I disagree with, no choice thanks to laws and regulations,so why pay for something that I have control of?

National news has an agenda and lies to push that agenda.
Local news papers are incompetent and still try pushing agendas just
They are both scum.

Why buy a newspaper?

1. You puppy is not yet house trained.

2. You have a parrot.

3. You catch fish.

My "local" paper is the AJC...all three of those stated uses are ABOVE its pay grade...
