To listen to the recent Republican Presidential debates, you'd think illegal immigration was the biggest threat to the U.S. economynot to mention to the rule of law, our social fabric and national security. We hate to spoil the political reverie, but the real immigration story these days is how many fewer illegal migrants are trying to get into the land of the free.
That's the news from the Department of Homeland Security, which reports that border apprehensions have dropped to their lowest level in nearly 40 years. For fiscal 2010, arrests were 463,000, down from 724,000 in 2008a one-third decline in two years.

Ohhh...:oP
Its less than 5% BTW.
They’re helping Romney...and Obama!
No problem my Conservative American friend, we are on the same team just playing different positions.
And unfortunately we here are ALL on the defensive against the mongrel hordes of Progressive Socialists who seek the ultimate failure of this country.
And yes I meant to use mongrel for good reason, the Mongols or their ilk are another battle yet to be fully engaged
He hasn't, and it's one of the reasons I like him, he focused like a laser beam on Obama. But I've noticed lately that a lot of his supporters are beginning to attack anyone that asks a question. That's the fastest way to lose support.
It gives them hope.
High School seems a pretty good perk already. Perhaps they should have to sort out the illegal status first before they're given a college education because otherwise they'll always be a potential liability for any law abiding employer.
I interact extensively with illegals. I see their income statements, their tax returns, their bills...
Many of them have GOOD jobs. Some of them make more money than I do. It’s past the point where illegals are “just picking fruit.” Ooohhhh, how they cheat on their taxes. I have heard, among tax industry people, that the actual figure lost to illegals by the additional tax credit is more like $7 billion, not $3.5 billion.
Now, there is the flip side for illegals who have no education, and especially for the females who have baby after baby out of wedlock. No need for me to post the stats on the majority percentages of illegal’s families who are sucking our system dry through food stamps and welfare for their anchor babies.
Many illegals are moving around the country right now in search of work. Unemployment and underemployment is very bad. People are not bothering to come illegally right now as much because our economy is in the toilet. When the economy picks up again, if it ever does I suppose, illegals will be pouring in just like before. Some illegals are returning due to lack of work, but very few. A part-time crappy job here is better paying and has better conditions than the best they could hope for in their south of the border stinkhole.
The fact is illegal immigration is down because our economy is doing poorly, not because of Hussein’s great work in enforcing the borders.
Employers who hire illegals ought to be penalized. Yes, this will be slightly inflationary.
Wahh! I am a store clerk who cannot hire people for slave wages! I need to import some slaves whose children will receive their education, health benefits, welfare, and food stamps on the taxpayer’s dime!
It’s a win-win for everyone except Americans who want jobs and taxpayers. people who pay taxes. Good thing that soon in America there won’t be many Americans who want jobs or actually pay taxes.
He’s also pro-illegal and calls me heartless. I will not vote for him period. If he is the nominee, I will sit at home rather than vote for another “Mexicans are more important than Americans” politician.
A nasty defensive disposition equals lower powers of persuasion.
Great post.
And Eva, you need to read it over and over until it sinks in.
No you make their lives freaking miserable, so bad that they either move back to Mexico or some other state. What you do NOT do is reward them.
Illegal Mexicans should be treated as the crap that they are. They should be rousted and arrested whenever possible till they get the message.
But no, we give them cash paid for by Americans and jobs when we have almost 20% unemployment? Totally stupid.
Agreed that in-state tuition is not the biggest issue on illegal immigration. However there are also bigger ENTICEMENTS to come here illegally. That includes taxpayer funded maternity benefits, free education K-12, food stamps, hospital emergency room benefits, and worst of all anchor babies. I will not support any candidate who is for any of the above.
A country which can not protect its borders will cease to be a viable country within a generation or two.
Amazing how amnesty types are here again...this time to hype stumbling Perry
We fight this over 5 years ago here and I got banned for 18 months but we won....this forum now understands where uncontrolled immigration takes us
So screw these emo RINOS here
God bless Texas but to hell with hispanic pandering....doesn’t work anyhow
Are you a Mexican? Cause you take their side on every issue AGAINST Americans. We used to call these type of people traitors.
The story of American jobs and labor is deeply intertwined with predatory Federal, state and local taxation and regulation....
South Koreans sleep soundly on their border with NORKS because of American Taxpayer dollars and the American GI.
Why cant Texans, New Mexicans, Arizonans and Californians?....BECAUSE
Illegal immigration is THE KEY to the perpetuation of the status quo in DC......
Predatory tax and regulatory policies-actions that basically serve to perpetuate and grow governments-leave what business is left in the country seeking disposable labor.
Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation. Interestingly, that is WHY the Feds encourage in-state tuition etc for illegals under-the-table -their presence providing disposable labor allows Federal, State and local regulatory and tax excess in the status quo to continue
Immigration is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.
Realleadership is that which will place Flyover Countrys interest ahead of the Feds....havent yet seen anything meaningful anywhere from anybody to indicate that might happen. We have just one more election cycle to make that happen via rule of law. Otherwise its the end of the run for America.
