Perry's been a governor for 10 years of America's 2nd largest state. How can you compare him to a 1966 Reagan? In addition Reagan had a track record of experience in labor mgmt relations,he'd written and commentated extensively, and his screen training and experience made for polished public speaking.

Perry's problems are that he has no answers for questions he has to know are coming. Either he and his staff are clueless as to what's going to be asked,or Perry actually knows very little. What other choice is there?

You do not get it. Yes, Perry sucks in a debate. What is worse than his performance is his issue positions on immigration and his foul use of EO’s.

Fatal flaws for Perry.

He can’t take back the damage he has done. It is over for him.

Good analogy.

I can’t imagine that she won’t run. Everyone else except Cain is either loathesome or too flawed in some way.

Another answer is he’s a moderate/RINO and going for the moderate/RINO vote.

I don’t see idealogy, moderate or otherwise, in Perry. His ramblings are too confused to be idealogical. It’s past time for him to get his game in gear and stop with the beyond silly “I was tired.” excuses.

Realists looking for substance make up about 2% of the electorate.

I drive for a living, and listen to talk radio all day on XM. Brian Kilmeade is obviously a Romneybot, and John Gibson has become impossible for me to listen to because of his Romney slobbering.

They want to be invited to the summer parties on the lake at the presidential spread in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Hey there. Pinging Nautinurse here because she was at the straw poll. Perry's fall is about more than stated positions and debating. Her posts from ground zero indicated that Perry messed up there as well. Didn't connect with the delegates. Lots of glitz and stuff, but not so much time spent with people. Certainly not like Mr. Cain.

The bottom line appears to be that the more people see of Governor Perry; the more they find out about him the less they like him.

Palin-Cain?

“Big Smile Yes”

Step carefully. We don’t really know what sister Sarah wants to do on illegal immigration.

Is she pro-fence?

Would she deploy military to the border to secure it once and for all?

Would she allow very tough enforcement on illegal alien employers?

I want to know all of these before I support her.

The “”heartless” comment told me that Perry is nothing more pretentious than warmed over Dubya. And that dog won’t hunt any more.

Many of the Texans here have been getting flamed for pointing this out.

I sent $50.00 to Herman Cain right after he won the Florida Straw. Second time I sent him some help. Hoping that many more folks did the same.

I never contribute before the general. It takes me waaaayyyy to long to make up my mind on a candidate. Sometime, the supporters of other candidates eliminate the candidate they support by attacking needlessly but other then that I wait until I’m sure I know all I need to know.

No, I get it just fine. His issues on immigration and EO's were known when he was riding high in the polls. What has hurt him is his inability to defend or otherwise explain away those positions. Every candidate has flaws, good ones can gloss over them - so far Perry hasn't been able to do that, mostly due to his terrible debating skills.

He can’t take back the damage he has done. It is over for him.

Way, way too early to say that. Example: people are talking about how wonderful Newt is again, this just a couple months after he threw almost every House Republican under the bus by declaring Ryan's medicare plan was right wing social engineering. Perry will dip in the polls, but is likely to reemerge at some point.

I think it was just a mis-statement from Perry.

It was in a huge way. He explained a bit better on Hannity's radio show.

He was trying to suggest, since the feds aren't doing their job on the border, these kid's common life of welfare and criminal activity was heartless. Texas wanted to incentivize legalization through in-state education rather than bare the greater social cost of inaction.

Those elements were in his debate answer but the way he said it was offensive and stupid.

I don't know how he recovers from that kind of verbal gaffe. He's not a naturally artful communicator, that is certain.

His campaign has not handled the error well and hasn't prepared him well either. However strong his total record is, his heart and head may not be in this race.
