Chris Christie just got a new reason to sit this one out: Herman Cain.
The New York Post is reporting that influential Republicans have convinced the New Jersey Governor to give renewed consideration to running for the White House. As of Saturday, however, the nominating process is no longer predictably insipid.
It is common practice for party patrons to attempt to engineer victory by convincing a marquis name to run for office when they perceive a weak field. And once the pace has been established in the big races, candidates who believe they can run even faster frequently accept the encouragement to jump in mid-course. But the 2012 election does not seem to be following the usual route.
While Rick Perry and Mitt Romney were busy engaging each other in a falling eaglet flight fight, Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll. He won big -- really big. Cains 37% of the vote nearly equalled the next three candidate totals combined. Perry took a distant second place with 15% and Romney is third with 14%.
Citing thirty-two years of history, Florida Governor Rick Scott predicted, I believe whoever wins this straw poll on Saturday will be the Republican nominee and I believe the Republican nominee will be the next President.
Is there any credibility in the candidacy of the former Godfather Pizza CEO? He has no election experience and the words Washington and Governor do not appear on his resume. GOP nominee Herman Cain may be a credible notion if we consider not only the competition, but the national mood.
The prevailing view among conservatives is that Jimmy Carter not only conducted the worst presidency since Woodrow Wilson, but he also got the nation good and ready to embrace the inspirational wisdom of Ronald Reagan. Based on that reaction, Barack Obama is winding up our springs for a catapult to the right, beyond any safe and traditional talk from so called first tier candidates. Herman Cains 9-9-9 plan may have just the right amount of revolutionary flavor to match Americans urgency for tax reform.
I only began to give Mr. Cain due consideration after seeing his very effective performance in the most recent debate. Wondering whether he has mettle beyond that of a successful businessman, I researched Cains resume. The guy is no lightweight, folks; Bachelors in mathematics, Masters in Computer Science from Purdue, ballistics specialist for the United States Navy, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and author of four books on leadership. He also contributes his talents at his church near Atlanta.
I appreciated Mitt Romneys humble statement near the end of Thursdays debate, Theres a lot of reasons not to elect me. That certainly seems to apply to most candidates (with the longest list of reasons racked up by President Obama himself). But I am no longer dismissive of the idea of President Cain. Much the contrary. The Florida straw poll was validating.
Mr. Cain has CEO experience and is probably business friendly-works for me. I’m tired of the politicians.
Raising Cain in America is good enough for me.
Usually I worry about our nominee winning the general election. This time I have NO doubt Cain will take Obama to wood shed and have a landside victory. The MSM including Fox and all the good ole boy talking heads like rove, kristol and the rest will brush thus off as an anomoly. Don’t let them distract you. Never ever again will they tell US who we should vote for. The people are SICK of politicians. The want problem solvers.
Stay in NJ Chris.

I like Cain, he is a nice man! I was thrilled that he won the straw poll as well. I was rooting for anybody to beat Perry/Romney, but lets be real, he got 908 votes give or take a few, means little other than it hurt Perry/Romney.
Now I suspect the pollsters may really try to push Cain, partly for entertainment and partly to try and use him against the one they really fear/hate.
Cain has a shot at being Gov Palin`s running mate, I think that`s the best scenario Cain could end up with.
The Straw polls mean nothing anymore. When most of us got our news from the MSM years ago, it had more of a impact.
Wow! He’s the most qualified person running for President! Thanks for the bio.
H. Cain will deliver a T.K.O. to the check-pants GOP country club sissies.
America needs a businessman in charge.
That arrogant, lazy pos that currently resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave won and he wasn't even qualified
added: I want a Cain/Palin ticket, not the other way around, or Cain/Santorum, Cain/Rubio,well you get the picture. I DO NOT want Sarah to run for president. Way too much media baggage, not her fault, but it’s a problem that would be very difficult to overcome. If the primary were between Mr. Cain and Sarah, I’d pick Cain.
Video: Herman Cain versus Bill Clinton (great watch!)
Imagine Cain debating Obama!
Cain is Able
I could vote for Cain any time. I could really get behind a Cain/Palin ticket.
I’m hungry for Pizza
Would never vote for Romney or Perry. Would vote for Cain.
Yeah, what you said!
I’d really like a Cain/Rubio or Cain/Palin, then Cain/Santorum. But I think Cain/Palin could win.
More than that, the United States of America needs adults in charge of DC and the entire politcal establishment needs to be uprooted.
