Reporting from Tampa, Fla. -- A black, threatening cloud hung low over the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday evening as top members of Gov. Rick Perrys brain trust left a place their candidate would love to forget.
At best half showed up, leaving tables groaning with uneaten bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit cocktail. At the end of the governors rather perfunctory eight-minute speech, the breakfast crowd offered a rather perfunctory round of applause, the first public clue that all might not be going well in Perryville.
The Texans campaign fielded the largest cadre of volunteers and paid staff at the event. His staffers, wires dangling from their ears (a touch, and expense, that no other campaign matched), were very much in evidence Saturday inside the convention hall, as they distributed signs and buttonholed delegates. Another visible sign of the considerable investment Perry made in Florida: signage that included a huge banner, hanging in the foyer of the convention hall, which greeted the 3,000 delegates, starting on debate night; Perrys campaign paid an undisclosed sum to the state party for the privilege.

He sure did!
Now he can go stuff it.
Thanks ;)
I bring this up for a simple reason. Although we all have our differences in who we support, there are a lot of people that have been verbally attacked (beyond the normal rough and tumble discourse) because they chose to point out Perry’s problems. I think a number of public apologies are owed them and I think the ‘hardcore’ should be held to it.
As for me personally, I don’t much care, but I participated in more than a few threads where the Perry supporters went way way over the line.
I will never claim to be the ideal conservative, but some of those comments were VERY un-conservative to say the least.
What that means is that he arrogantly ascribes to himself undeserved moral certitude.
We already got a guy who does that all the time. His current popularity is down there in the 30% range!
If I didn't know he was a pro-ILLEGAL alien, crony-capitalist dirtbag I might could feel sorry for him.
Im still struggling to explain the scarcity of hardcore Perry supporters that told the rest of us to shut up and get on board with their candidate or we were guaranteed 4 more of Obama or even Romney.
Anyone seen one?

Perry could’ve at least charged illegals out-of-state tuition if he allowed them access to Texas universities. No more Perry for me.
As president, he cannot pass a single responsibility onto the courts or Congress.
The buck stops with him.
He is not a RINO and he is conservative on some issues (abortion,2nd amendment).
He is not conservative on too many others(immigration for one) and worse, he is out of touch with Tea Party conservatives.
Perry doesn’t get it, we need someone who does.
Why is this such a devastating loss for Perry? Perry came in second, Romney was third. Why isn’t it a more devastating loss for Romney?
In any case, I like Herman Cain somewhat, but keep in mind he has taken absolutely ZERO scrutiny from the media so far. Gingrich has taken an onslaught from the media and is still standing. Perry is getting beaten up right now and is falling.... we’ll see if he can hang in there.
Perry has acted like a RINO in heat.
He himself lauded healthcare for Mexicans,
US taxpayer paid college for Mexicans and other illegals,
and he pushed for Gardasil for everyone before
it was even tested to help Merck.
So the simple truth is: Perry IS a RINO, has been
a RINO, and as a stalking horse for Romney,
and a Rovian puppet, he is now close to stage right.
This spin is ridiculous. Perry took the hits for two reasons. his illegal position has been terrible and his inability to debate simple points. carl cameron, that idiot, blamed it today on social security...and issue that literally every person at this event agrees with.
The breakfast this morning attracted well over a thousand people at 7 in the morning. People have serious doubts about perry after this debate, but he is still a top contender. The spin of the media is pathetic.
And he was not destroyed by conservatives, his own liberal record did him in.
Wrongo. He did it all by himself.
I’ll explain it. People are getting to know him.
There are more than enough American kids to spend our resources on.
I still think Perry will recover, I don't know if he can win the nomination, but he'll stay and fight. I also think there will be a whole lot of Texans who won't forgive or forget what was done to Perry, and winning without Texas will be pretty hard too. Sure the Paul followers hate him but there is about 25,000,000 other Texnas who have been mightily offended at how their governor has been treated and what republican think of their decision (Perry only signed the bill you know). They changed to republican a while back, I doubt if they would become democrats, but they may just be too busy on election day to vote.
“They changed to republican a while back, I doubt if they would become democrats, but they may just be too busy on election day to vote. “
Then they are fools.
Excellent post! Many young American citizens who live in Texas cannot afford college nor do they get or qualify for subsidies or grants. Political pandering is Perry's petard. Immigration issues are a hot button for Americans, especially in this economy and with the debt illegals add to the national deficit and our taxes.
72 percent say government not enforcing immigration laws
Snip: Most voters agree: 72 percent say the government is not enforcing existing laws, including majorities of Republicans (86 percent), independents (72 percent) and Democrats (59 percent).
