Reporting from Tampa, Fla. -- A black, threatening cloud hung low over the Orange County Convention Center on Saturday evening as top members of Gov. Rick Perrys brain trust left a place their candidate would love to forget.
At best half showed up, leaving tables groaning with uneaten bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit cocktail. At the end of the governors rather perfunctory eight-minute speech, the breakfast crowd offered a rather perfunctory round of applause, the first public clue that all might not be going well in Perryville.
The Texans campaign fielded the largest cadre of volunteers and paid staff at the event. His staffers, wires dangling from their ears (a touch, and expense, that no other campaign matched), were very much in evidence Saturday inside the convention hall, as they distributed signs and buttonholed delegates. Another visible sign of the considerable investment Perry made in Florida: signage that included a huge banner, hanging in the foyer of the convention hall, which greeted the 3,000 delegates, starting on debate night; Perrys campaign paid an undisclosed sum to the state party for the privilege.

I’m still struggling to explain the scarcity of hardcore Perry supporters that told the rest of us to “shut up” and get on board with their candidate or we were guaranteed 4 more of Obama or even Romney.
Anyone seen one?
Poor Perry keeps making the SAME RINO mistakes.
I must say that really is a racist lead.
Didn't someone recently get in trouble for comparing Obama to a black cloud? One that is hung low, too! Maybe this L.A. Times reporter needs to be taken out to the woodshed and taught a lesson. Of course, he might actually enjoy it.
Silly! it’s perfectly fine when Libs do it! ;)
So according to the article, what happened in Orlando won’t “change what the campaign is doing.”
Perry will continue to tell conservatives we “have no heart”?
Perry will continue to call those opposed to illegal immigration “divisive” and “anti-immigrant”?
Perry will continue to resist using fencing on the border except in some “strategic” parts of some “urban” areas?
Perry will continue to call for legalizing the illegals by waving a magic wand over their heads and calling them “guest workers”?
Perry will continue to support subsidizing the college education of citizens of foreign countries who are in our country illegally?
Tell me again Einstein’s definition of insanity.
crash and burn.
uhg! I’m off the worlds greatest food, bacon, until the Cholesterol comes down.
The thought of all that uneaten bacon, just sitting there, it makes me shudder.
Heartless
Find that pretty odd myself today.
Think they may have been shocked and awed in a bad way.
Simple truth is Perry is not a RINO. However, he’s got to be the only conservative I have ever watched be destroyed by conservatives.
Not just heartless. In the other debate he said we dislike illegals because their names sound different. That is leftist code for “racist”.
So he called us racist and heartless.
RE: A black, threatening cloud...
Talk about a racially-charged and bigoted statement.
Indeed. Though many of the less hardcore have had the guts to come here and tell the truth.
It’s over for Perry.
PS- Love the tagline!
On the contrary.
George W Bush did almost the same thing to his own support, with almost the same position.
Conservatives are not destroying Perry.
It’s entirely self-inflicted.
The heartless have no heart for the bleeding heart for TX.
Who da thunk it.
That one item was a disaster ~ at the same time the questioner, and the audience, and Americans at large had no idea his wife had some serious mental issues (clinical depression) ~ and although that was her problem he too shared in the struggle.
We can only imagine the memories that triggered ~ fortunately medical science progressed and she found a serious degree of relief through ECT. Praise God !
They are probably supporting Cain now, lol.
Anyone seen one?
They are scarce but they are here. See post 20.
He was destroyed by himself.
Calling your own party base “racists” and “heartless” is not a good strategy, and is definitely not a winning strategy.
