No surprise. These days, Russia and China are more economically free than the United States. And Cuba and Vietnam are gaining on us.

Hard to believe that North Korea isn’t in the bottom five.

How is the ranking made? What criteria are considered? I ask because the US currently is considered roughly equal with Malaysia last year.

Canada ranks sixth in the world for economic freedom with score of 7.81 while the United States fell to 10th overall with a score of 7.60, according to the Economic Freedom of the World: 2011 Annual Report. But Canadas score actually decreased this year from 7.95 in 2010, part of an overall decline in levels of economic freedom around the globe. This years report shows that the average economic freedom score worldwide fell to 6.64 in 2009 (the most recent year for which data are available) from 6.67 in 2008. That's what I suspected when I read the first paragraph where it said they "surpassed" us in economic freedom. I figured that it was more a case of us surpassing THEM by going the WRONG way more effectively.

Of course, Canada is horrendous when it comes to freedom of speech and guns.
