With the partys frontrunner sagging, Chris Christie is reconsidering pleas from Republican elites and donors to run for president in 2012, two Republican sources told POLITICO.
The New Jersey governor has indicated he is listening to big-money backers and Republican influence-makers, and will let them know in roughly a week whether he has moved off his threat-of-suicide vow to stay on the sidelines of a presidential race that remains amorphous heading into the fall, the two sources said.
Texas Gov. Rick Perrys candidacy has failed to clear a basic bar with elites and some donors, and his shoddy debate performance in Orlando has only highlighted the window for someone who Republicans searching for a Mitt Romney alternative can rally around.
Christies potential candidacy has been an increasingly fevered fantasy of a certain cadre of some media and business elites mostly based in New York, with a smattering of California technology and entertainment players since last summer. Thats when he showed up at a Sun Valley conference hosted by the investment banker Allen and Co. and wowed the crowd, including Rupert Murdoch, with what many in attendance described as a nimble mind and a speaking style that was both articulate and blunt-spoken.

Supergirl?
Christie is anti-gun. I don’t know what he’s thinking if he’s considering running for the GOP nomination. He’s simply not viable in the current environment, and thankfully so...
“Well, no, see in Texas the governor does what the people want. I dont believe its the same in California (which is why everyone is fleeing to Texas).”
Oh. So, the people in Texas want it run like CA? OK, but tell them I think it’s a BIG mistake.
I'm the first person on FR to notice that Perry was a RINO. Within minutes others who knew him more intimately came along and provided information that he was a RINO because he supported various policies.
My concern was that he'd been a Democrat office holder, and consistent with my belief that we don't need RINOs anymore, I needed to oppose him on that principle alone.
Regarding his position on illegal aliens getting instate tuition, I've been pounding on that one for over 5 years. Texas and Perry simply got in the way.
So, no, I'm not part of the Establishment. I don't clip coupons along with the Old Kenosha Money. In fact, I once worked scraping up crap off the floor in a UAW infested motor vehicle factory with Stanisol ~ no old money there ~ just Mafioso peddling numbers and stealing rejected parts for sale in repair shops in Chicago.
My ZIP Code in those days was 46218 ~ and conditions there are probably as good as they've ever been ~ murder rate is down to double digits in fact. Not very many folks there get doctorates ~ or, in fact, darken the door of a university ~ not even one day.
The roar of crashing boxcars on the humps at two separate rail yards was my bedtime lullaby.
Fact is there are plenty of guys like me who are Republicans and we are Mitt Romney's worst nightmare, and Christy isn't our kind of politician, nor are such doufous' as Paul and the other lawyers. Perry can get our attention but he's gotta' deal with a "Come to Jesus Moment" ~ and this one isn't from Mexico!
I noticed that many fools have written Perry off way to early and based on debates performance. Anyway to further prove that these fools know nothing about winning elections they are pushing for Christie who would take votes from Romney not Perry and therefore keeps Perry on the top. Please run Christie run.
No, they have no income tax, they actually have republican who are in elected offices, and they aren’t bankrupt. They voluntarily offered higher education so they didn’t turn into gang members and grafitti artists and drug pushers.
it is Politico.
Why would any conservative listen to or believe what these lefty liberals would have to say. It is just their version of Operation Chaos Rush ran in the Democratic primary in 08.
Before any one says that Politico is even-handed (lol), read the transcripts of Hugh Hewett’s interviews with the editor and writers from Politico. They can not hide their true leanings just like Obama can not hide his true beliefs. Politico is not a credible source which conservatives would pass on this type of leak. Consider the source before anyone considers what they have to say.
It's pretty sad when some FReepers start using sources like Politico, The WaPo and the NYT to prop up whatever their favorite agenda happens to be.
But let one of these same sources criticize whoever it is they support and these sources all become "garbage" and trash" again. :-)
The list is reserved for only serious comparisons by Palin() supporters.
BTW, here is the most recent version of the list:
This is an ongoing list of historical, popular, and Biblical people, as well as fictional characters and animals that Sarah Palin has been compared to on FR:
“They voluntarily offered higher education so they didnt turn into gang members and grafitti artists and drug pushers.”
So the solution to preventing bad behavior and lawlessness is to turn them from it by paying their way? Good thinking. There’s a word for that in politics...can’t put my finger on it...it’s been used for years by the Dems, to lock up a base...NOT conservative, but...it’ll come to me...good thinking though, really. Especially good, because no one else from Mexico is going to consider the free ride a magnet.
Yes. That EXACTLY what I want to spread throughout this part of the country. We can call it Texamexavadafornia.
I know...forget the borders and offer them FREE insurance to!
lol
Every poll ever taken since Perry entered the race shows him WAY ahead
Texas has offered a solution to the problem that is uniquely Texan. I have enough respect for the people of Texas to give them a pass on this because you have to try everything you can when the feds are refusing to do their job.
You forgot Supergirl...according to your little friend.
Perry was an elected Democrat public office holder. That is, by defintion, a RINO.
Leaking now that Christie will run for President now because internal polling telling his staff that he is toast for re-election in NJ
Maybe he can get a spot on the next season of “Biggest Loser.” He’s one more triple Cheese Bacon Burger away from stroking out. He could be the biggest health risk ever elected, though. Better get a good running mate.
” Well, Perry has quit being Gov just a few months after being elected and promising he would not run for Prez.”
He’s still the Governor of Texas.
And if he loses the nomination,
he’ll still be the Governor of Texas
for another three years.
Are you making this up or do you have a source?
I haven't decided who I'm voting for yet (although I've been forced by fairness to defend Perry so much I'm beginning to really like the guy).
I got fooled by GWB so this time I'm being very careful. I have looked hard enough at Perry to know that he's not at all open borders, he won't grant amnesty (again like Reagan did) and we're going to be a lot closer to the solution then we have been before.
However, I have alway watched the Texas miracle and I know that Perry is behind a lot of it. I watched as the state workers changed, and how they all became ambassadors for the state. I think he has a lot of solutions to our financial problems and right now, I would prefer we get those under control first. I also like the idea of telling the world "look out, here comes another cowboy" just to watch their heads explode LOL
